Management of Bupropion Toxicity With Intravenous Lipid Emulsion Therapy in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

This case report involves a 2-year-old female with no past medical history who presented after ingestion of an unknown amount of 300 mg bupropion extended-release tablets. Shortly after ingestion, the mother mechanically induced vomiting, which recovered only small pieces of the tablets. The patient remained asymptomatic for a short period, then she began vomiting and had several tonic-clonic seizures, leading to emergency medical service (EMS) being called and ultimately, intubation for airway protection. On arrival at the pediatric intensive care unit (estimated 6 hours post ingestion), the

No Evidence of Zoonotic Hemoplasma Infections in Humans Exposed to Bats.

BACKGROUND: Human-wildlife contact facilitates spillover by exposing humans to wildlife pathogens. Bats are often found living in or near human buildings and host a variety of pathogens known to infect humans, including bacterial pathogens. One of the most widespread bacterial pathogens found in bats is hemotropic Mycoplasma spp. (hemoplasmas), some of which can infect humans and cause anemia, fever, and occasionally death. In Busia County, Kenya, like many regions in Sub-Saharan Africa, humans are commonly exposed to bats and their pathogens. METHODS: We surveyed 602 patients with febrile il

Case Report: IgG4-related lung disease.

Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic immune-mediated fibroinflammatory condition, distinct from classical autoimmune disorders, that can affect multiple organs. Pulmonary involvement often presents with non-specific clinical and radiographic features, contributing to high rates of misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis. Here, we report a rare case of IgG4-related lung disease (IgG4-RLD) to enhance clinical awareness. A 71-year-old female presented with cough. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed an irregular soft tissue mass in the right middle lobe. All autoantibodies tested

Multiple relapses of cryptogenic organizing pneumonia: A case report.

Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) is an important subtype of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, triggered by abnormal inflammatory responses of the lung to unknown stimuli. The disease shows good initial sensitivity to glucocorticoid therapy, but ~50% of patients experience recurrence after glucocorticoid dose reduction or withdrawal. Cases of multiple recurrences (≥3 times) are rarely reported clinically, and no unified consensus has been formed on their diagnosis and treatment strategies, making clinical management challenging. In the present study, a 53-year-old female patient was admi

Pulmonary lymphangitic carcinomatosis and pathological fracture as the initial manifestations of occult gastric adenocarcinoma mimicking interstitial lung disease: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary lymphangitic carcinomatosis (PLC) clinically and radiologically mimics interstitial lung disease (ILD), posing diagnostic challenges when the primary malignancy is occult. CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old male presented with progressive cough, dyspnea, and a rib fracture following minimal trauma. Chest CT showed bilateral interlobular septal thickening and mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) of subcarinal nodes confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma, with immunohistochemistry (CK7+,TTF-1-, Napsin A-) sugg

Bronchial artery embolization followed by bronchoscopic electrosurgical snare resection for diagnosis and treatment of primary pulmonary osteosarcoma: case report and literature review.

Primary pulmonary osteosarcoma (PPOS) is an extremely rare extraskeletal osteosarcoma. Because its clinical and radiological features are nonspecific, establishing a diagnosis is challenging. We report the case of a 58-year-old man who presented with a 1-month history of cough and 5 days of dyspnea. Initial chest computed tomography showed destructive changes in the left lung and an endobronchial lesion in the left main bronchus. To relieve airway obstruction and obtain diagnostic tissue, a sequential strategy of bronchial artery embolization followed by bronchoscopic electrosurgical snare res

Case Report: A pediatric case of multifocal Streptococcus intermedius brain abscesses as the initial manifestation of SMAD4-associated juvenile polyposis-hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia overlap syndrome.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is a rare genetic disease characterized by epistaxis, telangiectasias, and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Clinical diagnosis of HHT is typically guided by fulfillment of the Curaçao criteria. HHT is a known risk factor for brain abscesses in the pediatric population, particularly in those with pulmonary AVMs, where intrapulmonary right-to-left shunting permits septic emboli to seed the brain. We report the case of a 9-year-old girl with asthma and chronic sinusitis who presented with 5 days of congestion, cough, and worsening headache in the set

Diagnosis of pulmonary infiltration by acute monocytic leukemia via routine cytological examination of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid: A case report.

This article reports a case of pulmonary infiltration by acute monocytic leukemia and discusses the significant role of routine cytological examination of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in the diagnosis of this condition. The patient presented with persistent cough and fever and was ultimately diagnosed with acute monocytic leukemia, accompanied by multiple patchy high-density opacities in both lungs. Leukemic cells were detected through routine cytological examination of BALF samples, leading to a definitive diagnosis of pulmonary leukemic infiltration. The article also reviews relevant

Short-form video exposure characteristics and respiratory symptom severity among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Short-form video platforms have become a dominant health information source for COPD patients, yet the relationship between content characteristics of exposure and respiratory symptom severity remains unexplored. Given China's 1.02 billion short-form video users with daily viewing exceeding 150 min, understanding differential health impacts of various content types is critical, particularly for older adults vulnerable to algorithmic misinformation. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated associations between multidimensional short-form video exposure characteristics-content type (healt

Pulmonary benign metastasizing leiomyoma presenting as advanced lung cancer: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary benign metastasizing leiomyoma (PBML) is a rare extrauterine smooth muscle neoplasm that predominantly affects women with a history of uterine leiomyoma. Because its clinical and radiological manifestations frequently resemble advanced pulmonary malignancy, establishing the diagnosis remains challenging. Herein, we describe an unusual presentation characterized by a dominant pulmonary mass and diffuse bilateral pulmonary nodules, initially suggesting advanced lung cancer with intrapulmonary metastases. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 38-year-old woman with a p

Nutritional and Biochemical Correlates of Disease Severity and Hospitalization in Adults with Drug-resistant Tuberculosis: A Prospective Study from North India.

BACKGROUND: Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) remains a major public health challenge in high-burden countries. While microbiological diagnosis is central to management, factors determining disease severity and hospitalization at presentation are less well characterized, particularly simple clinical and biochemical markers that may aid early risk stratification. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the clinical, nutritional, radiological, and biochemical profile of adults with confirmed DR-TB and to identify factors associated with disease severity, bacillary burden, and hospitalization.
