Prevalence and associated factors of sleep bruxism in Turkish schoolchildren with mixed dentition: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Factors associated with sleep bruxism (SB) in children with mixed dentition remain incompletely understood. This study examined the relationship between sleep bruxism and sleep behaviors, oral habits, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and health status in Turkish schoolchildren during the mixed dentition stage. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, a representative sample of 452 schoolchildren was assessed. Sleep bruxism was assessed by a subjective-based assessment (parental report of tooth grinding during sleep). During the clinical oral examination, tooth wear, free-way spac

Influence of early myofunctional training on maxillary arch development in children aged 4-7 years with mild oral habits: a controlled pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Thumb sucking, the use of pacifier and mouth breathing in the early childhood may negatively influence the development of the maxillary arch. Myofunctional therapy has become a non-invasive intervention that can fulfil the dysfunction of the orofacial muscles, although the studies on its effectiveness in preventing arch underdevelopment are limited. METHODS: The sample size (n = 64) was divided into two groups: the intervention group (n = 32) where the children were subjected to 12 months of structured myofunctional training and habit cessation counselling, and the control group (

The effect of shade on steer performance after terminal sort.

Heat stress negatively impacts performance and welfare and occurs when total environmental and metabolic thermal load exceeds an animal's ability to dissipate heat. Access to shade has been associated with reductions in body temperature and respiratory rate in cattle, but previous findings on cattle performance has been inconsistent. This pen-level randomized controlled trial evaluated the effects of shade (2.8 m2/head, 100% solar block; n = 12 pens) versus no shade (n = 12 pens) on steer performance following terminal sort at a commercial feedyard in the Pacific Northwest, where animals were

Chlorinated pool air, airway mucosal immunity, and respiratory health in competitive swimmers: a mini review.

Chlorinated swimming pools are a routine training setting for competitive swimmers, but the breathing zone just above the water surface can contain a variable mixture of volatile disinfection by-products. For athletes who train at high ventilation rates, trichloramine and related compounds may be delivered repeatedly to the airway mucosa, particularly during prolonged sessions with mouth breathing and high humidity. This setting is relevant to immunology because the conducting airway acts as a mucosal barrier as well as a ventilatory conduit, coordinating epithelial integrity, innate immune si

Relationship Between Halitosis and Mouth Breathing Among Pediatric Population: Exploring the Contributing Factors.

Non‑hematopoietic stromal cells are essential regulators of hematopoiesis; however, their contribution to leukemogenesis and immune dysfunction remains poorly defined. Here, we identified fibroblast‑derived fibroblast growth factor 18 (FGF18) as a novel stromal cytokine that reprograms leukemia-immune interactions. Single-cell RNA sequencing of the bone marrow (BM) niche during acute myeloid leukemia (AML) revealed the upregulation of Fgf18 in stromal fibroblasts. Administration of recombinant FGF18 accelerated AML progression, whereas fibroblast-specific Fgf18 depletion markedly delayed disea

Using Remote Behavioral Skills Training to Teach University Students Literature Searching Skills.

BACKGROUND: The presence of bacteria in bile is an important factor in the formation of pigment gallstones. The bile of healthy people is sterile and bacteria in the biliary system come from endogenous infection from the gut. Yet, the route of bacterial translocation into the bile duct is still unclear. Theoretically, two routes exist: one is through the intestinal barrier and the other is by direct reflux from the sphincter of Oddi. This study was undertaken to explore the relationship between the effectiveness of intestinal barrier and the formation of pigment gallstones in hamsters. METHOD
