Characterization and Identification of Potential Allergenic Proteins in Sophora japonica L. Pollen.

Sophora japonica L. pollen (SJP) is an emerging cause of urban seasonal allergies such as asthma and rhinitis. This study systematically evaluated the allergenicity of SJP using both in vivo and in vitro experiments. In vivo, a mouse model was employed in which SJP induced typical allergic symptoms, including sneezing and rubbing behavior, elevated serum IgE and IL-4 levels, and reduced IFN-γ levels. In vitro, IgE immunoblotting and ELISA using sera from allergic patients identified five potential allergenic protein bands separated by SDS-PAGE. LC-MS analysis further revealed a novel potential

Pilot Room-Level Acoustic and Physiological Monitoring of Respiratory Disturbance in Pigs Following Experimental Klebsiella pneumoniae Challenge.

Respiratory disease remains a major challenge in pig production. This two-room pilot study evaluated whether room-level acoustic monitoring combined with physiological measurements could provide an early warning after an experimental Klebsiella pneumoniae challenge. Forty growing pigs balanced by sex and body weight were housed for 28 days in one control room and one challenged room (20 pigs/room; four pens/room). Challenged pigs were intranasally inoculated on days 8, 12, 16, and 20 with a culture whose dose was retrospectively verified by serial-dilution plating. Nasal and fecal samples were

Central Adiposity Is More Strongly Associated With Stress Urinary Incontinence Than Body Mass Index: A Comparative National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Obesity is a well-established risk factor for stress urinary incontinence (SUI); however, the relative contribution of central vs overall adiposity remains unclear. We hypothesized that central adiposity, measured by waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), would demonstrate a stronger association with SUI than BMI. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed adult women participating in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011 to 2018 cycles. SUI was defined as self-reported urine leakage during physical exertion, coughing, or sneezing. Anthropometric indices (BMI, waist

HMGB1 impairs nasal epithelial barrier via regulating autophagy in the pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis.

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies indicate that the epithelial barrier was disrupted in allergic rhinitis (AR). High-mobility group box 1(HMGB1) plays a significant role in activating inflammation. We aimed to explore whether HMGB1 could impair the epithelial barrier in AR and investigate its underlying mechanism. METHODS: Nasal secretions and nasal specimens were collected. Expression of HMGB1 and tight junction (TJ) proteins were measured by RT-qPCR, western blotting and immunofluorescence in control subjects and AR patients. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used for histological examination.

Mathematical Modeling of Viral RNA Copies in Indoor Environments: Pre-Processor for Risk Assessment and Decision-Making Support Tool for Public Health.

Quantifying human exposure to airborne respiratory viruses is essential for infection risk assessment modeling and evidence-based infection control policies. However, accurate size and time resolved estimates of airborne viral RNA copies in indoor spaces are often hindered by existing models that compress complex droplet physics into too simplified processes. Therefore, we present a size-resolved framework that couples saliva-specific evaporation and residue formation with gravitational settling to compute airborne viral RNA covering 1-2000 µm under varied temperature, relative humidity, and a
