OBJECTIVE: Due to the chronic inflammation associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), patients develop premature atherosclerosis and the disease is a risk factor for acute myocardial infarction. The best interventional treatment for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in these patients is unclear. The objective of this study is to describe the baseline characteristics, clinical manifestations, treatment and in-hospital outcome of patients with SLE and ACS.

The electrocardiogram (ECG) revealed a 2-mm downsloping ST-segment elevation and negative T waves in V1 and V2. Hydatid disease is a parasitic infection caused by larvae of Echinococcus granulosus. Cardiac involvement in hydatid disease is uncommon, constituting only 0.5 - 2% of all cases of hydatidosis. Most patients with cardiac echinococcosis are asymptomatic, and the disease is often latent because a hydatid cyst in the heart grows very slowly. Only approximately 10 % of patients, especially those with large hydatid cysts, have clinical manifestations. Precordial pain is the one of the common symptoms and is most often vague and does not resemble angina pectoris.

BACKGROUND: Erosion of a cardiac structure after device closure of an interatrial septal communication (IASC-C), although rare, is a major and severe adverse event which may be underreported. On the other hand, unexplained episodes of transient chest pain occur more often and may be quite distressing. We sought to define the parameters relating the devices to the adjacent cardiac structures and to determine whether computer tomography (CT) could predict erosion of atrial or aortic wall or precordial pain symptoms occurring in the first months after device implantation.
