The effect of chamomile on flatulence after the laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A randomized triple-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial.

OBJECTIVE: Flatulence is one of the main post-operative Ileus-related complications, especially in abdominal surgeries, which can be largely due to the effects of anesthesia. There are various kinds of therapeutic methods used for their treatment though sometimes their effects are limited. Thus, it is essential to find alternative treatments to decrease the implications of the disease. The present study is aimed to investigate the effect of Chamomilla recutita on flatulence after Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial was carried out in 2020 at Isfahan in Iran

The Efficacy of Omentopexy During Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy: Comparative Analysis of Surgical Outcomes, Complications, and Quality of Life.

INTRODUCTION: The increasing popularity of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) as a bariatric procedure has been accompanied by concerns about potential complications, including staple line bleeding and leaks. Additionally, postoperative quality of life can be affected by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and food-related issues. In light of these factors, there is a need to compare the outcomes of standard LSG with LSG with omentopexy. This comparative analysis aims to provide insights into the distinct recovery processes associated with these two approaches. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Th

Synbiotics, prebiotics and probiotics for people with chronic kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health problem affecting 13% of the global population. Prior research has indicated that CKD is associated with gut dysbiosis. Gut dysbiosis may lead to the development and/or progression of CKD, which in turn may in turn lead to gut dysbiosis as a result of uraemic toxins, intestinal wall oedema, metabolic acidosis, prolonged intestinal transit times, polypharmacy (frequent antibiotic exposures) and dietary restrictions used to treat CKD. Interventions such as synbiotics, prebiotics, and probiotics may improve the balance of the gut f

Variety of Serotonin Levels in Pediatric Gastrointestinal Disorders.

(1) Serotonin primarily regulates our emotions. A complex process, which includes dysfunctions in gastrointestinal motility and deregulation of the gene responsible for serotonin reuptake (SERT), is implicated in the pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This also encompasses changes in intestinal microbiota, the response to stress, the intricate interplay between the brain and the digestive tract, heightened sensitivity to visceral stimuli, and low-grade inflammation. This paper aims to investigate the effectiveness of probiotic therapy in managing gastrointestinal and neuropsych

Timing of High-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy With External Beam Radiation Therapy in Patients With Intermediate- and High-Risk Localized Prostate Cancer and Its Effects on Toxicity and Quality of Life: A Randomized Controlled Trial (THEPCA).

PURPOSE: High-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR-BT) and external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) are effective treatments for prostate cancer but cause genitourinary (GU) and gastrointestinal (GI) toxicities. There is no consensus on the timing of HDR-BT in relation to EBRT and the effect of sequencing on patients. The primary objective was to assess differences, if any, in the incidence of grade (G) 3 or higher GU toxicities from treatment. We also aimed to explore the incidence of G1 to G4 GI toxicities, quality of life (QOL), and patient satisfaction. Suppression of prostate-specific antigen (PSA)

Comparison of Knowledge of Lactose Intolerance and Cow's Milk Allergy Among the Medical Students at Two Universities in Saudi Arabia.

Lactose intolerance is a condition causing an inability to absorb and digest lactose leading to gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and flatulence. Because of the similarities between lactose intolerance and cow's milk allergy, it is becoming necessary to increase physicians' understanding of these two diseases. Consequently, we aimed to determine the level of knowledge of lactose intolerance and cow's milk allergy among medical students. An electronic survey was distributed to 399 medical students at two universities in Saudi Arabia from October to November 2022. The m
