BACKGROUND: A new intervention called high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) targets fibroids with high-intensity ultrasound pulses using ultrasound probes. This noninvasive method, which can be carried out with either magnetic resonance imaging or ultrasound guidance, results in immediate coagulated necrosis within a clearly defined area a few millimeters in diameter.
METHODS: This systematic review evaluated the safety of HIFU in the treatment of uterine fibroids regardless of site or size. We specifically aimed to determine the incidence of side effects that can occur during and after HI

BACKGROUND: The surgical treatment and management of postoperative soft tissue complications in diabetic patients with displaced calcaneal fractures are still controversial. We aimed to evaluate the short-term efficacy of percutaneous minimally invasive screw fixation in treatment of diabetic patients with Sanders II and III calcaneal fractures under subtalar arthroscopy assisted by preoperative musculoskeletal ultrasonic locating lateral calcaneal branch (LCB) of the sural nerve and calcaneal-talar joint distraction device.
METHODS: The clinical data of 52 diabetic patients diagnosed with Sa

Transoral vestibular robotic thyroidectomy can really make the patient's body surface free of scar. This study aimed to compare the surgical and patient-related outcomes between the transoral vestibular robotic thyroidectomy and traditional low-collar incision thyroidectomy. The clinical data of 120 patients underwent transoral vestibular robotic thyroidectomy (TOVRT) or traditional low-collar incision thyroidectomy (TLCIT) were collected from May 2020 to October 2021. Propensity score matching analysis was used to minimize selection bias. All these patients were diagnosed with papillary thyro

BACKGROUND: Occipital neuralgia manifests as pain in the cutaneous distribution of occipital nerves, with the greater occipital nerve stemming from the C2 spinal nerve and the lesser occipital nerve originating from the C2 and C3 spinal nerves. While pulsed radiofrequency ablation of the C2 dorsal root ganglion (DRG) is an effective treatment for refractory occipital neuralgia, accessing the C2 DRG remains a clinical challenge even under fluoroscopic guidance.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to develop an ultrasonographic method for quickly and accurately accessing the C2 DRG.

BACKGROUND: A few patients report intense pain and other unpleasant sensations, such as burning, dysesthesia and hyperalgesia, after even brief exposure to the sun and in the absence of any skin lesion. Sometimes they also develop systemic symptoms, such as mild fever, fatigue, faintness and fainting. As a result, these patients carefully avoid even short-term sun exposure with a consequent severe negative impact on their lives.
METHODS: We have reviewed the clinical findings and the results of photobiological investigations of 10 patients who presented this clinical picture. Six of these pat

INTRODUCTION: Forearm compartment syndrome (CS) in children is above all a clinical diagnosis whose main cause is traumatic. However, rarer causes such as infection can alter its clinical presentation.
CLINICAL CASE: An 8-year-old boy has been seen in the emergency department complaining of severe forearm pain under a splint in a mild traumatic context. The previous radiological imaging examination three days before had not revealed any fractures. On admission, he presented with major signs of skin inflammation, loss of mobility, paresthesia and a significant biological inflammatory syndrome.

Notalgia paresthetica (NP) is a sensory neuropathy characterized by chronic pruritus, skin pain, and other pathologic sensations affecting the mid-to-upper back. NP may be under-recognized and under-diagnosed, with limited data available on its symptom presentation and treatment patterns. NP-DERM was an internet-based survey of dermatologists (n = 650) from 8 different countries on their perspectives on NP symptoms and current treatment practices. Dermatologists typically treated a median of 12 patients with NP per month. Dermatologists reported that itch (pruritus) was the most common symptom

The objectives of the study were to present the experience of diagnosis, management, and therapy with IL-1 inhibitors in patients with Schnitzler's syndrome (SchS) according to a multicenter Russian cohort. An observational retrospective study for a 10-year period (2012-2022) involved 17 patients with SchS who were admitted to the hospital or were observed on an outpatient basis (eight women and nine men). The diagnosis of all of them corresponded to the Strasbourg diagnostic criteria. The age of patients ranged from 25 to 81 years (Me 53[46; 56]). The age at the time of the onset of the disea

A 62-year-old woman, with neuropathic pain and paresthesia in her right forefoot, showed a circumscribed soft tissue swelling on the sole between the second and third metatarsal. Ultrasound (US) imaging showed a well-defined lesion in the second intermetatarsal space, without vascularization sign at Power Doppler (PD). In the first hypothesis, these findings led to Morton's neuroma. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), demonstrated a dumbbell-shaped lesion between the II and the III metatarsal heads; it extended cranially to the subcutaneous fat of the dorsal slope. The MRI findings weren't compa

Dupuytren's disease (DD) is a fibroproliferative disorder that manifests as an abnormal growth of myofibroblasts, causing nodule formation and contractures and affecting digit function. If left untreated, these contractures can lead to a loss of mobility and potentially impact hand function. This systematic review critically compares and evaluates the existing literature on the complications and patient satisfaction following injectable collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) versus limited fasciectomy (LF) for DD. We performed a comprehensive search of the PubMed, Medical Literature Analys

Acute cutaneous necrosis is a rare presentation of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN). In this study, we report a presentation with symmetrical cutaneous necrosis of the lower limbs, which ascended upward at a rapid rate. A 47-year-old man presented with a fever of one day and pain in the feet for six days. He had no history of claudication. Upon examination, he was febrile, and subtle bluish discoloration was observed on the sole of his foot. There was a bilateral stocking-type paresthesia up to the ankle joint. His blood pressure on admission was 210/120 mmHg. Eight hours later, the pain subsided, b

BACKGROUND: De Quervain's tenosynovitis, characterized by the entrapment of the extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus tendons in the first extensor compartment, leads to pain and swelling near the radial styloid. When conservative treatments including rest and antiinflammatory medications fail, surgery is often recommended. This study aimed to compare transverse and longitudinal skin incisions with respect to surgical scars, postoperative pain, and functional outcomes in the open release of the first extensor compartment in radial styloid tenosynovitis.
METHODS: Seventy patien

BACKGROUND: The treatment of choice for tumors located in the parotid gland is surgery. Nevertheless, postoperative complications are not infrequent. Regardless of the type of surgical procedure, the most common complication is Frey's syndrome (FS). Traditionally, FS includes unilateral gustatory sweating and flushing of the facial skin lining the parotid compartment. Recent research describes atypical discomfort associated with FS. The aim of this study was to assess the late prevalence and severity of both usual and atypical symptoms after parotidectomy for benign tumors.
METHODS: We conduc

Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) is a rare, autoimmune, small-vessel vasculitis usually described with the presence of perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (p-ANCA). It encompasses a broad spectrum of clinical features, including fatigue, weight loss, fever, arthralgia, skin lesions, and involvement of the lungs or kidneys. Ocular manifestations, however, are extremely rare. We report a case of a 60-year-old Caucasian male who presented with sudden left-hand weakness, fever, and amaurosis fugax. He also complained of fatigue and stocking-glove paresthesia over the preceding two mont

INTRODUCTION: Peripheral artery diseases (PAD) and Raynaud's syndrome are associated with substantial morbidity. PAD, through the restriction of blood flow to the extremities, may lead to critical limb ischemia with symptoms of pain at rest which may eventually progress to severe limb ischemia with gangrene. This serious and painful clinical condition requires extensive medical care, is limb-threatening and, in case of delayed or unsuccessful treatment, is associated with a high mortality rate. In Raynaud's syndrome, the blood supply to certain parts of the body, usually the fingers and toes a
