Small fiber neuropathy (SFN) is a common neurological diagnosis with a multitude of symptoms, including dysautonomia symptoms (e.g., orthostatic dizziness) as well as sensory disturbances, such as a tingling sensation or burning pain. The disease can be due to metabolic, autoimmune, or hereditary factors, and treatment plans stem from SFN etiology. Diabetes, autoimmune disease, infection, vitamin deficiencies, post-vaccination syndromes can all cause SFN. Needle electromyography and nerve conduction studies can be performed to exclude other neuromuscular conditions by ruling out large fiber ne

While vaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remains crucial, neurological complications have been detected following the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination. The neurological complications of COVID-19 vaccination can be seen in both the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). In this study, we reviewed PNS complications after COVID-19 vaccination, their underlying mechanisms, diagnosis, and management. Inflammatory polyneuropathy, small fiber neuropathy, Parsonage-Turner syndrome (PTS), cranial mononeuropathie

Glufosinate ammonium (GLA) is a nonselective herbicide of the phosphinic acid group, which is widely used in agriculture. Dermatologic toxicity has been rarely reported, especially in the elderly. We present the case of a 94-year-old female patient who developed irritant contact dermatitis and paresthesia after using her feet to stir 20 vials of Glufosinate ammonium herbicide in water. The patient presented with pruritus, numbness of the extremities, and a very high immunoglobulin E (IgE) elevation (855.5 IU/mL), which gradually decreased over time. This is the first report in Vietnam describi

Intraosseous hemangiomas (IH) are rare intrabony lesions that represent less than 1% of intraosseous tumors. IH are mostly seen in the axial skeleton and skull. Most commonly, the frontal bone, zygomatic, sphenoid, maxilla, ethmoid, and lacrimal bone can manifest IH. Currently, IH is classified as a developmental condition of endothelial origin. According to WHO, the five histological types of IH are cavernous, capillary, epithelioid, histiocytoid, and sclerosing. IH of the zygoma is an extremely rare condition with female predominance. A systematic review recently estimated that there were 78

Introduction Zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fractures, often resulting from high-impact trauma, frequently involve the orbital floor, leading to functional and aesthetic complications such as diplopia, enophthalmos, and facial asymmetry. The subtarsal approach, which involves an incision through the skin, provides access to the orbital floor while potentially reducing complications. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the subtarsal approach in managing ZMC fractures with orbital floor discontinuity, focusing on functional outcomes (nerve paresthesia, ocular movement, and

INTRODUCTION: The varicella zoster virus, which also causes chicken pox in unvaccinated individuals, is the cause of herpes zoster. Vaccinated individuals with partial protection acquired against the virus during a previous chicken pox episode may be susceptible to herpes zoster. When affected by chicken pox, the virus lodges in the posterior nerve root ganglion. From then on, anytime the patient encounters a decrease in cell-mediated immunity during their lifetime, the patient is at a risk of developing an acute eruption that appears like tense vesicles and occurs in groups with surrounding e

A 34-year-old man recently immigrated from Guam to Colorado presented with a 3-year history of skin lesions and months of worsening eye irritation and vision loss. Examination revealed leonine facies, tender erythematous nodules, corneal neovascularization, and granulomatous anterior uveitis. Diagnosed with multibacillary leprosy complicated by erythema nodosum leprosum, he responded well to multidrug therapy and immunosuppressive treatment, with significant improvement in systemic symptoms, ocular inflammation, and skin lesions at follow-up.

Mammalian sperm are characterized as specialized cells, as their transcriptional and translational processes are largely inactive. Emerging researches indicate that Ca2+ serves as a crucial second messenger in the modulation of various sperm physiological processes, such as capacitation, hyperactivation, and the acrosome reaction. Specifically, sperm-specific calcium channels, including CatSper, voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs), store-operated calcium channels (SOCCs), and cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels, are implicated in the regulation of calcium signaling in mammalian sperm. A 98-year-old female, with a past medical history of trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and non-melanoma skin cancer, presented with a crescent-shaped ulcer on her right nasal ala that had been present for months. On exam, the patient was aware of her issue, readily admitted to manipulation of the area, and had a past medical history significant for TN. The patient's history and clinical presentation led to a diagnosis of trigeminal trophic syndrome (TTS). TTS is an extremely rare, ulcerative condition that can arise in patients suffering from TN. While TN itself is well-documented, treatment is often

Neural leprosy, which is characterized by nerve involvement without visible skin lesions, presents a diagnostic challenge. This case report examined the significance of diverse diagnostic modalities in the identification of pure neural leprosy. A 28-year-old patient with symptoms of edema, pain, paresthesia, and diminished sensitivity in the lower limbs underwent various tests. A stilt skin smear yielded negative results on bacilloscopy, whereas a Fast ML Flow leprosy test and electroneuromyography supported the diagnosis. This discussion highlights the importance of accessible methods for ear

BACKGROUND: The optimal surgical approach to treat neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome (nTOS) depends on the individual patient's anatomy as well as the surgeon's experience. The authors present a minimally invasive posterior approach for the resection of a prominent transverse process to reduce local muscular trauma.
OBSERVATIONS: A 19-year-old female presented with painful sensations in the right arm and severe fine-motor skill dysfunction in the right hand, each of which had been present for several years. Further examination confirmed affected C8 and T1 areas, and imaging showed an elonga

Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder classically presenting with cytopenia and recurrent infections but atypical manifestations such as bone lesions, skin lesions and effusion have been described. We report here an unusual meningeal localization in a 33 years old man who presented with headache, hand paresthesia and visual symptoms. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed an occipital meningeal lesion. Diagnostic explorations led to the diagnosis of classical HCL with meningeal localization. After treatment by cladribine and rituximab the patient rapidly improved

Arthroscopic outside-in meniscal repair technique, which was first described by Warren in 1985, including all its later modifications, involved tying the final knot on the outer surface of the capsule. Capsular-side knot-tying has reported complications such as catching sensory nerves under the knot with resultant postoperative focal sensory loss and paresthesia, as well as pain under the skin because of irritation from the knot. Meniscus-side-knot-tying technique involves tying the knot on the outer surface of the meniscus. Advantages of the meniscus-side knot-tying technique include the foll

Schwannomatosis is characterized by the development of multiple schwannomas without evidence of vestibular tumors. Segmental schwannomatosis is defined as being limited to one limb or five or fewer contiguous segments of the spine. We report a case of a 20-year-old male with the painful masses of the left upper extremity with associated numbness and paresthesia in the ulnar nerve distribution. The high-frequency ultrasound showed that the ulnar nerve fascicles were enlarged and expanded with beadlike growth. The patient underwent surgery twice and all the tumors were pathologically confirmed t

Topical 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is an antineoplastic chemotherapy drug used to treat precancerous and cancerous skin growths, such as actinic keratoses (AKs), squamous cell carcinoma in situ, and superficial basal cell carcinoma. The topical agent may rarely cause neurotoxic adverse effects. Multiple cases of systemic 5-FU and capecitabine chemotherapy-induced neuropathies have been reported. However, until now, the topical administration of the drug has not been reported to cause neurotoxicity. We present a case of an 83-year-old male who was prescribed topical 5-FU 5% cream to treat AKs on the

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Infectious diseases like leprosy can cause antiphospholipid antibodies, leading to blood clots. Clinicians should consider this for patients with unusual thrombotic events and prior infectious disease history.
ABSTRACT: This case report details the diagnostic challenge of a 42-year-old man with a history of treated leprosy who presented with clinical features suggestive of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). Vascular angiography revealed thrombosis, and serological tests were positive for APS antibodies. However, the patient subsequently developed symptoms, including thenar
