Sixteen patients, 13 of whom had received prior chemotherapy, were treated with vindesine for advanced malignant melanoma. Previous treatment included vinca alkaloids in six. Thirteen patients received vindesine, 4 mg/m2 and three received vindesine, 3 mg/m2 by weekly I.V. injection. There were two partial (12%) and no complete responses among all of the patients. We report a 36-year-old woman with a cutaneous cyst of the dorsal aspect of the left foot. Because of the symptoms of pain and paresthesias attributed to the lesion, it was clinically felt to be a ganglion. After excision, these symptoms abated. Yet histologic examination showed this lesion to be a rare tumor, the ciliated cutaneous cyst. This is the third patient with this distinctive lesion on the foot or ankle.

A 41-year-old Vietnamese refugee was found to have tuberculoid leprosy. Dapsone treatment cleared her skin lesion, but did not remove the paraesthesia in the right ulnar nerve. Immunological investigations revealed a strongly positive lepromin test and a significant change in the ratio of T-y and T-mu lymphocytes in peripheral blood. The incidence of leprosy in Vietnamese refugees in Scandinavia is discussed.

A patient is reported in whom deep musculoskeletal pain apparently blocked transmission from nociceptive cutaneous fibers in an adjacent region. When the deep musculoskeletal pain was abolished with local anesthesia, the cutaneous hypalgesia disappeared. Naloxone did not influence the hypalgesia. Possible mechanisms are discussed.

Experimental latent herpes infection of rabbit dorsal root ganglia (DRG) is reported. The simian herpes virus used was derived from fatal natural infection in owl monkeys and has limited neurotropism in the rabbit. Following intradermal injection of the flank it causes a local lesion followed only by dorsal root ganglionitis; segmental paraesthesia and/or sensory loss going on to clinical recovery. Methods were developed for mapping sensory losses. Virus could be immediately re-isolated from skin or DRG homogenates in the acute (first week) stage but from 8-550 days by DRG organ culture only.

An unusual case of generalised sarcoidosis of the skin on tattoo marks done two years for "medicinal" purposes on a 56 year old woman is presented. The lesions were lichenoid and scaly in appearance with closely grouped papules. The old tattoo marks on the skin were not involved and areas of skin between the new tattoo marks were also spared. In addition, the sarcoidosis lesion were pruritic and burning. The circumstantial evidence indicated the medical agent applied on the tattoo wounds as the provocative factor for the development of sarcoidosis of the skin.

Twenty subjects were followed up to three months after microneurographic recording of sympathetic nerve fiber activity to determine the nature and incidence of sequelae to the invasive microneurographic procedure. Skin or muscle parethesias lasting two weeks on the average were reported by the majority of subjects. Nine percent of the subjects also reported mild muscle weakness lasting two to four weeks. One subject reported skin paresthesias lasting up to three months postrecording. There was no incidence of permanent nerve injury.
