Current status and future prospects of Echinococcus multilocularis vaccine candidates: A systematic review.

The larval stages of Echinococcus multilocularis (E. multilocularis) are what cause the zoonotic disease known as alveolar echinococcosis (AE). Identifying the antigens that trigger immune responses during infection is extremely important for the development of vaccines against Echinococcus infections. Several studies conducted in recent decades have described the specific traits of the protective antigens found in E. multilocularis and their role in immunizing different animal hosts. The objective of the current systematic review was to summarize the findings of relevant literature on this to

sCD155 as a potential marker for diagnosing the vascular invasion in hepatic alveolar echinococcosis.

BACKGROUND: Alveolar Echinococcosis (AE) is a malignant zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus multilocularis infection. Considering whether the lesion is accompanied by vascular invasion (VI) is crucial for treatment strategies. A cost-effective and convenient clinical diagnostic method is urgently needed to supplement current techniques. Consequently, we detected soluble CD155 (sCD155) as a potential biomarker for diagnosing VI in hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE). METHODS: Blood samples were from 42 AE patients and 49 healthy controls (HCs). Based on the computed tomography (CT) and c

Epididymal alveolar echinococcosis and tuberculosis co-infection: A case report.

Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a common and significant public health problem caused by the larvae of the Echinococcus multilocularis. The occurrence of epididymal AE is rare and often overlooked in combination with mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. We report a case of a 34-year-old man who presented with right-sided scrotal enlargement with pain. Physical examination revealed an enlarged right scrotum with rupture. CT examination showed a blurred border and non-enhancing lesion on the right epididymis. Postoperative pathology and molecular biology identified an epididymal E. multilocular

[Atypical alveolar echinococcosis with systemic involvement in a patient treated with dupilumab].

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar echinococcosis is an endemic parasitic disease prevalent in certain cold regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including Eastern France, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, and the United States. Widely underdiagnosed, it is associated with infection by Echinococcus multilocularis, a small tapeworm belonging to the cestode class, capable of causing multi-systemic involvement, particularly in elderly or immunocompromised patients. CASE REPORT: We present the case of an 82-year-old patient, immunocompromised due to prolonged corticosteroid therapy and treatment with dupilumab. Sh

A SIMPLE, QUICK, AND ECONOMICAL METHOD FOR IN VITRO CULTIVATION OF ECHINOCOCCUS MULTILOCULARIS METACESTODE AND GENERATION OF PRIMARY CELLS.

Alveolar echinococcosis is considered to be one of the most potentially lethal parasitic zoonotic diseases. However, the molecular mechanisms by which Echinococcus multilocularis interacts with hosts are poorly understood, hindering the prevention and treatment of this disease. Due to the great advantages of cell culture systems for molecular research, numerous attempts have been made to establish primary cell cultures for E. multilocularis. In this study we developed a simple, rapid, and economical method that allows E. multilocularis metacestode tissue blocks to generate daughter vesicles wi

The In Vitro Promoting Angiogenesis Roles of Exosomes Derived from the Protoscoleces of Echinococcus multilocularis.

Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a persistent parasite condition that causes the formation of tumor-like growths. It is a challenge to treat the disease. These growths need neovascularization to get their oxygen and nutrients, and the disease is prolonged and severe. Considerable research has been conducted on exosomes and their interactions with Echinococcus multilocularis in the context of immunological evasion by the host. However, the extent of their involvement in angiogenesis needs to be conducted. The primary objective of this investigation was to preliminarily explore the effect of exos

ROS are required for the germinative cell proliferation and metacestode larval growth of Echinococcus multilocularis.

The potentially lethal zoonotic disease alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is caused by the metacestode larval stages of the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. Metacestode growth and proliferation occurs within the inner organs of mammalian hosts, which is associated with complex molecular parasite-host interactions. The host has developed various ways to resist a parasitic infection, and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is one of the most important strategies. Here, we found that scavenging of ROS reduced metacestode larval growth and germinative cell proliferation in in vivo mode

Rapid Discriminative Identification of the Two Predominant Echinococcus Species from Canine Fecal Samples in the Tibetan Region of China by Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification-Lateral Flow Dipstick Assay.

Echinococcosis poses a significant concern in the fields of public health and veterinary care as it can be transmitted between animals and humans. The primary endemic subtypes are cystic echinococcosis (CE) and alveolar echinococcosis (AE), which result from infestation by Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus multilocularis, respectively. A prominent epidemic of echinococcosis greatly affects the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) in China. A new technique called the loop-mediated isothermal amplification-lateral flow dipstick (LAMP-LFD) test is introduced in this research to differentiate betw

Alterations of mouse gut microbiome in alveolar echinococcosis.

Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) may affect the composition of the host's gut microbiota, potentially disrupting the balance between the gut microbiota and metabolites. Metagenomics and untargeted metabolomics were employed to characterize changes in the gut microbiota and metabolites in mouse models infected with E. multilocularis. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to compare the distribution of microbiota and metabolites, revealing synergistic or mutually exclusive relationships. Functional outputs of the gut microbiota were explored using the CAZy database and six enzymes involve

Case report: Echinococcus multilocularis infection in a dog showing gastrointestinal signs in Hokkaido, Japan.

Echinococcus multilocularis is a cestode that causes human alveolar echinococcosis, a lethal zoonotic disease distributed in the northern hemisphere. The life cycle of this parasite is maintained in nature by voles as intermediate hosts and foxes as definitive hosts in Hokkaido, Japan. Although dogs are also susceptible to the parasite, the infection has been considered typically asymptomatic. We report the detection of E. multilocularis eggs in the diarrheal feces of a dog with chronic gastrointestinal signs, which disappeared after anthelmintic treatment.
