From one tree to the canopy: an evolutionary design trajectory for tethered robotics in forest environments.

Forest robotics has largely evolved along a ground-first and flight-dominant trajectory, treating the canopy as a region to observe or briefly access rather than a habitat to inhabit. In this Perspective, we propose an alternative canopy-first framework in which robots operate through anchoring, suspension, and tension-mediated interaction with the environment. We trace the progression from ground and aerial systems to perching mechanisms, identifying their shared limitation as transient canopy interaction. Tether-based robots instead enable sustained presence by transforming branches into str

Physical disability and quality-of-life burden in McCune-Albright syndrome: a nationwide survey in Japan.

McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is a rare mosaic disorder caused by somatic gain-of-function variants in GNAS and frequently associated with fibrous dysplasia (FD). FD-related complications impair physical function and quality of life (QOL), yet Japanese data are lacking. We conducted a nationwide survey to characterize functional impairment and physician-perceived QOL factors in patients with MAS in Japan. Data on 43 patients were collected using a web-based questionnaire sent to council members of the Japanese Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and the Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral R

Timing of Device-Measured Physical Activity and Sleep in Relation to Meeting Physical Activity Guidelines in U.S. Adults.

INTRODUCTION: Whether the timing of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sleep is independently and jointly associated with meeting physical activity guidelines in adults remains unclear. METHODS: We cross-sectionally analyzed 2003-2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data. Non-pregnant adults aged ≥20 years with valid accelerometer data, ≥5 min/day of MVPA, and no mobility limitation were included (n=3,153). Participants were classified as: morning (06:00-09:59), midday (10:00-13:59), afternoon (14:00-17:59), evening (18:00-21:59), or overnight (22:00-0

Immediate effects of myofascial release and Kinesio taping on muscle viscoelasticity and functional performance in low back pain: a three-arm controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic low back pain (LBP) represents a major cause of functional limitations and disability worldwide. OBJECTIVE: To compare the immediate effects of myofascial release technique (MRT), kinesio taping (KT), and no intervention on muscle viscoelastic properties, pain, lumbar mobility, and functional performance. METHODS: Sixty-six participants with chronic nonspecific LBP were randomly assigned to MRT, KT, or control groups. Both interventions were delivered in a single session, while the control group rested for an equivalent period. Primary outcomes were paraspinal muscle tone

From Spine to Limbs: Imaging Insights and Clinical Correlation in Caudal Regression Syndrome.

Caudal regression syndrome (CRS) refers to a spectrum of congenital structural defects of the caudal region. We present a case of caudal regression syndrome with the objective of correlating the symptoms of caudal regression syndrome with the detailed imaging findings. A 05-year-old boy who was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in August 2025 , presented with a post-urethroplasty state of hypospadias, complaining of urinary incontinence through the normal meatus and a urethrocutaneous fistula. He had dribbling of urine through hypospadias and deformed feet since birth. He also de

Effect of home-based pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with interstitial lung disease in a tertiary care centre - A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Interstitial lung disease causes functional limitation and exercise intolerance. Although pulmonary rehabilitation in ILD can improve physical function and quality of life, multiple factors hinder its utilisation including lack of facilities, mobility, caregivers and cost. Therefore, alternative models such as home-based pulmonary rehabilitation are required to bridge the gap between guidelines and practice. This study explored whether a 12-week home-based pulmonary rehabilitation program could improve the functional capacity of ILD patients as measured by 6MWD when compare

The interplay between patients' and family members' attitudes toward mobility and actual mobility in hospitalized older adults.

BACKGROUND: Reduced mobility during hospitalization is a significant clinical challenge for older adults, contributing to functional decline. Grounded in Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), which posits that personal factors and social environment interact dynamically to shape behavior, this study examined the interplay between patients' and family members' attitudes toward in-hospital mobility as factors of actual mobility in hospitalized older adults. METHODS: A prospective cross-sectional observational study included 140 dyads of older adult patients (≥65 years) and their family membe

Physical Activity and Perceptions of the Community Walking Environment Among Cancer Survivors, National Health Interview Survey, 2024.

INTRODUCTION: Multimorbidity is common among middle-aged and older adults; however the prospective effects of multimorbidity on health outcomes (health status, major health decline, and mortality) have not been fully explored. This study addresses this gap in the literature. METHODS: We used self-reported data from the 2008 and 2010 Health and Retirement Study. Our study population included 13,232 adults aged 50 or older. Our measure of baseline multimorbidity in 2008 was based on the occurrence or co-occurrence of chronic conditions, functional limitations, and/or geriatric syndromes, as fol

Circumstantial variables preceding firearm suicide among females with and without mobility disability in the USA: comparative analysis using data from the National Violent Death Reporting System.

BACKGROUND: Mobility disability impacts approximately 12% of the US population; females are overrepresented among persons with mobility disability. Those with mobility disability are at increased risk of suicide compared with their non-disabled counterparts. Suicide using a firearm has increased among females in the last two decades. This study aims to describe and explore significant circumstantial variables (eg, socio-demographic, health indicators) preceding firearm suicide among females with mobility disability as compared with females without mobility disability. METHODS: This is a secon

Severity of mobility limitation and adverse outcomes in heart failure.

BACKGROUND: Mobility limitation is prevalent in patients with heart failure (HF), but the dose-response relationship between its severity and adverse outcomes remains unquantified. METHODS: We conducted a patient-level pooled analysis of two prospective Japanese cohort studies, including 2103 hospitalised patients with HF with no exclusion criteria. Mobility limitation at discharge was categorised into four levels: category I (independent outdoor walking), category II (indoor independence but requiring outdoor assistance), category III (requiring indoor assistance) and category IV (unable to

Topical Application of Olive Oil in Preventing Pressure Injuries Among Hospitalized Patients with Mobility Limitations: A Cluster Randomized Trial in the United Arab Emirates.

INTRODUCTION: Pressure injuries (PIs) pose a significant threat to the safety of hospitalized, mobility-compromised patients globally. Olive oil has shown promising results in preventing PIs due to its high concentrations of monounsaturated fatty acids and phenol antioxidants, known for their anti-inflammatory and cell-protective properties. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of topical olive oil combined with routine preventive interventions in reducing PI incidence. METHODS: A single-blinded, cluster-randomized study was conducted among 80 hospitalized patients at risk of develo

Are participants with disability referred for social prescribing? Findings from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing.

BACKGROUND: Social prescribing connects NHS patients to activities, groups, and services in their community to address wider health determinants. Those living with disability may have needs for support from social prescribing, yet there is little evidence exploring this. METHODS: We examined the association between referral to social prescribing and disability, using logistic regression in 5578 individuals aged ≥50 from wave 10 of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (year 2021-23). RESULTS: Referral to social prescribing is significantly associated with mobility disability (OR 1.68 [95%

Preclinical mobility limitations among community dwelling older adults using the National Health and Aging Trends Study.

BACKGROUND: Preclinical Mobility Limitations (PCML) represent an early transitional stage in which individuals compensate for functional decline, yet do not exhibit overt disability. Recognition of PCML may identify individuals at elevated risk for future disability. Despite its importance, PCML has been understudied using nationally representative datasets. The purpose of this study is to operationalize and validate PCML using the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS) and to examine its prevalence among community dwelling older adults. METHODS: We analyzed 4,566 participants from NH
