Specimen Design and Characterization for Thin-Walled Components in Very-High-Cycle Fatigue Regime: Aluminium 6082 Case Study.

Rapid characterization of high-cycle fatigue behaviour is of great interest, since conventional methods for developing S-N curves for longer fatigue lives are both costly in time and financial resources. Ultrasonic fatigue testing offers a promising alternative by enabling S-N curve evaluation in a fraction of the time, often hundreds of times faster, due to its high testing frequencies. Nevertheless, this technique presents specific challenges, including material overheating and limitations in specimens' geometry. Most ultrasonic fatigue studies employ hourglass specimens; however, this geome

Older Adult Cancer Survivors' Functional Limitations and Determinants of Health: Evidence from the 2021 National Health Interview Survey.

Background/Objectives: Functional limitations are common among older cancer survivors and tend to increase with age and survivorship duration. Physical activity (PA) associates with better functional outcomes, but little is known about how these associations vary as time passes post-diagnosis. This study examined how years since diagnosis, three types of physical activity, and their interactions associate with functional limitations in older cancer survivors. Methods: Data drawn from the 2021 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), representing adults aged 55+ and with a prior cancer diagnosi

Integrating Speciation Analysis and Bioaccessibility to Reassess Cadmium Exposure Risk from Six Mushrooms.

Accurate assessment of dietary exposure to cadmium in mushrooms is crucial for food safety. The inherent limitation lies in relying solely on total cadmium content, failing to reflect its actual bioaccessibility. This study integrated speciation analysis and bioaccessibility to provide a comprehensive risk evaluation. The results showed that cadmium primarily existed in the residual state across Lentinus edodes, Morchella esculenta, Cordyceps militaris, Lyophyllum decastes, Agaricus blazei, and Stropharia rugosoannulata, indicating that a significant portion of the cadmium is tightly bound wit

Impact of a nurse-led in-hospital mobility intervention on older adult patient functional outcomes and perceptions.

Hospital-associated disabilities in older adults are common. Few studies have used a performance measure to evaluate the impact of ambulation on patient functional status during and after discharge or investigated older adult perceptions of ambulation during a hospitalization. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the implementation of MOVIN (Mobilizing Older adults Via a systems-based INtervention) on older adult functional performance outcomes and to understand patients perceptions of mobility during their hospital stay. A non-randomized observational study using a quasi-experimental des

RICTOR-mediated GPX4 downregulation regulates chondrocyte ferroptosis in osteoarthritis progression.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disease worldwide and the leading cause of chronic pain and mobility limitation in the elderly. Numerous studies have demonstrated that ferroptosis plays a crucial role in the development and progression of OA; however, the precise mechanisms remain to be elucidated. RICTOR (Rapamycin-Insensitive Companion of mTOR) is a key protein in cellular signal transduction and an essential component of mTORC2 (mammalian target of rapamycin complex 2), vital for the stability and activity of the complex. Our previous work established that RICTOR r

Examining the Influence of Task Complexity on Dual-Task Performance in Parkinson's Disease and Healthy Older Adults.

UNLABELLED: <p>Introduction: People with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) often experience difficulty performing dual-tasks (DTs), negatively impacting mobility, fall risk, and quality of life. The influence of task complexity on DT performance remains unclear. This study examined the effects of gait complexity and cognitive/speaking task on DT effects (DTEs) in PwPD and healthy older adults. METHODS: Forty-one PwPD and eleven healthy older adults completed two gait tasks - straight walking (simple) and figure-8 walking with obstacle crossing (complex) - on a pressure-sensitive walkway, paired with

Single-atom co anchored UiO-66 to boost electrochemiluminescence of MoS2 for bioanalysis.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) hold significant promise for improving the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) efficiency. However, the preparation of SACs reported in the ECL field usually relies on carbon-nitrogen-based materials as substrates and requires high-temperature pyrolysis (>800 °C), suffering from the limitation in the anchoring materials and the deficiency of insufficient active site density caused by high-temperature calcination. This work developed zirconium-based metal-organic framework UiO-66 as the carrier to successively anchor the Co single-atom (CoSA) and the ECL emitter MoS2 und

Associations of external environment with life-space mobility among community-dwelling older adults: the potential mediating role of intrinsic capacity.

BACKGROUND: Community-dwelling older adults residing in non-age-friendly external environments face a higher risk of restricted life-space mobility. Although improving the external environment may help mitigate this risk, environmental interventions are often complex, challenging to implement, and demonstrate limited effectiveness. Enhancing intrinsic capacity, however, may offer a novel approach to addressing the risk of restricted life-space mobility in older adults. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to examine the relationships among the external environment, intrinsic capacity, and life-space m

Living Polymerization Strategy for Conjugated Multiblock Copolymers: A Systematic Study of Structure-Property Relationships in Stretchability and Charge Transport.

Achieving high mechanical stretchability while maintaining charge carrier mobility in semiconducting polymers remains a central challenge due to their intrinsic trade-off. Conjugated multiblock copolymers (CMPs) incorporating semiconducting and elastomeric segments represent a promising design strategy to overcome this limitation, yet a systematic understanding of how structural parameters influence material properties and device performances is still lacking. To address this issue, we chose a model polymer, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT), and systematically constructed its library precursors w

Cefiderocol-resistant Aeromonas with expanded Resistomes in German hospital wastewater: Phenotypic and genomic evidence from the environment-clinical Interface.

Hospital wastewater is a key interface between clinical and environmental reservoirs of antimicrobial resistance, fostering selection and horizontal gene transfer. Aeromonas spp. are aquatic opportunistic pathogens with highly plastic genomes and are increasingly recognized as potential intermediaries in resistance dissemination. We compared 72 cefiderocol-selected Aeromonas isolates recovered from untreated hospital wastewater collected at six tertiary care hospitals across Germany with 62 clinical isolates from patients with intestinal and extraintestinal infections, to characterize cefidero

In silico transcriptome-based drug screening identifies celastrol as a multi-species therapeutic agent against aging-related sarcopenia and mitochondrial dysfunction.

INTRODUCTION: Sarcopenia, characterized by the progressive age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, is a primary driver of ambulatory dysfunction in older adults and lacks approved therapeutics. Although exercise has been shown to mitigate muscle aging through activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ co-activator 1α (PGC-1α)-dependent mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative metabolism, the practical implementation of exercise regimens is often constrained by age-related physical frailty and declining mobility. This limitation underscores the need for pharmacologi

Transferability of a 10-week remotely delivered Virtual Physical Activity Seated Exercise (V-PASE) program on post-stroke functional mobility: study protocol for a multisite randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Seated exercises may reduce the need for in-person support during home-based exercise programs in people with balance impairments. However, it is uncertain if these exercises can transfer to improved lower extremity function and mobility. Thus, the objective is to investigate the effects of a remotely delivered 10-week seated exercise intervention on functional mobility, compared with control, in individuals living with a chronic stroke who have balance impairments. METHODS: The study is a multi-site, assessor blinded, randomized controlled trial that will recruit across five prov
