A lightweight YOLOv8n-based method for human abnormal posture detection.

Detection of abnormal human postures holds significant application value in fields such as smart healthcare, public safety, and elderly care monitoring. Timely and accurate detection of abnormal postures provides reliable support for emergency alerts and intervention. However, challenges such as occlusion interference in complex scenarios, pose variations, data imbalance, and excessive model parameters often hinder detection accuracy and real-time performance. To address these issues, this paper proposes PSD-YOLOv8n (Pose-Spatial-Dynamic-YOLOv8n), a lightweight human abnormal posture detection

The toxicology of orally administered Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol in sheep.

INTRODUCTION: As part of a larger study to assess the potential value of industrial hemp biomass (the low Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) variety of Cannabis sativa L.) as a feed for ruminants, a pharmacokinetics study of Δ9-THC, one of the main cannabinoids of interest, was undertaken. In undertaking this study, the toxicology of orally administered Δ9-THC was incidentally investigated and was discussed in the current paper. METHODS: Eight Merino ewes were administered with two per os (PO) doses of 88.5 mg Δ9-THC/kg bodyweight (BW) 12 h apart. Blood samples were taken periodically to determ

The potential hematological features of children with spastic cerebral palsy in China: a retrospective multidimensional data analysis based on routine hematological indicators.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a non-progressive brain injury primarily characterized by abnormal posture and movement disorders. Among them, spastic cerebral palsy (SCP) accounts for 70% of cases. Previous small sample hematological data analyses have revealed significant differences in inflammatory marker ratios between SCP patients and healthy controls. This study aims to expand the sample size and perform a multidimensional data analysis using routine hematological indicators to identify hematological features of spastic cerebral palsy, potentially providing new directions for the trea

Quantitative assessment of thoracolumbosacral orthosis efficacy on the temporal features of gait using inertial measurement unit sensors.

Prolonged sitting with poor spinal posture alter the biomechanics of spine and the whole body, alleviating gait efficiency and causing fatigue. Evidence suggest that spinal braces can correct postural deviations, enhance proprioception, postural control, and spinal stability. However, the impact of an abnormal posture and spinal brace on the temporal features of gait remains unexplored. This study aimed to assess the quantitative effectiveness of spinal brace on the temporal features of gait using IMU sensors. This randomized crossover experimental study involved 15 lab workers who performed g

Clinical characteristics and long-term disabilities in children following Bothrops atrox envenomation in Manaus, western Brazilian Amazon.

BACKGROUND: In the Brazilian Amazon, most snakebites are caused by Bothrops atrox. Although pediatric cases are less frequent, children are more vulnerable to severe complications and long-term disabilities. This study aims to describe the clinical profile of B. atrox envenomation in children treated at a tertiary hospital in Manaus, in Western Brazilian Amazon, and to characterize the resulting long-term musculoskeletal impairments in a subgroup of these patients. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed sociodemographic and clinical data from patients up to 12 years and 11 months of age treated

First Report of Halomonhystera sp. cf. disjuncta Associated With Branchial and Cutaneous Lesions During a Mortality Event in Laboratory-Acclimated Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus).

This clinical report describes a mortality event associated with a free-living marine nematode provisionally assigned to the Halomonhystera disjuncta species complex (Halomonhystera sp. cf. disjuncta) in laboratory-acclimated olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). Fish were acclimated at 13°C in filtered seawater with 50% daily water exchange. Affected fish developed caudal fin erosion, gill pallor, excessive branchial mucus, abnormal posture and, in larger fish, cutaneous ulcers. Cumulative losses within 1 month reached approximately 50% in the 10 g groups and 30% in the 100 g group. Micros

Heroin-induced neuroadaptations of CB1 receptors and their involvement in conditioned place preference.

RATIONALE: Chronic opioid use leads to long-term dysregulation of the systems related to reward, pain and stress. In recent years, much attention has been given to the role of endocannabinoid CB1 receptors in opioid-driven behaviors. However, neuroadaptations of these receptors following opioid exposure is less clear. OBJECTIVES: In this study, we systematically assessed CB1 receptor protein expression within the cortico-mesolimbic-basal ganglia circuit in rats with a history of heroin exposure and assessed the involvement of CB1 receptors in heroin conditioned place preference (CPP). RESULTS:

Current Concepts to Muscle-Based Procedures to Treat Upper Limb Spasticity: Forearm, Wrist, and Hand Deformities.

Spastic forearm, wrist, and hand deformities in isolation or collectively can markedly hinder function and/or provide challenges with hygiene. When muscle contracture is the main contributor to the spastic deformity, muscle-based and tendon-based procedures can effectively correct the abnormal posture. Tendons from expendable muscles can be transferred to the weak or paralyzed muscle to improve the static position of the joint or to restore active function. When employed for the correct underlying pathology, muscle-based procedures can effectively correct the spastic deformity, which can lead

Improved Chronic Low Back Pain, Radiographic Alignment, and Patient Reported Outcomes Following Postural Rehabilitation Protocols: A Case Series of Two Patients with 18- and 26-Months Follow-Up.

Background/Objectives: We describe a case series of two patients with non-specific chronic low back pain (CLBP) and measurable decreased quality of life, who showed improvements after a specific multi-modal conservative spine and postural therapy regimen. CLBP is the leading cause of years lived with disability and disability-adjusted life years. This case series adds observational data to the medical literature on conservative treatment of CLBP and potentially improves diagnostic and treatment understanding of how conservative therapies can benefit patients suffering with CLBP. Methods: Two p

Reconstruction with muscle flaps after hip joint heterotopic ossification resection in spinal cord injured patients: a case series.

INTRODUCTION: Heterotopic ossification (HO) is a frequent complication in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). This condition leads to limitations in movement and to abnormal posture, which can impair sitting and bed positioning and may result in pressure ulcers. Surgery is considered when HO causes severe limitations due to joint obstruction caused by the ossification. However, the defect left after resection is often extensive and may create significant dead spaces that can lead to seroma or hematoma formation if not adequately filled, increasing the risk of infection and prolonged hospita

Movement disorders with autoimmune neuromuscular origin: an overview of Isaacs' syndrome, stiff person syndrome, immune-mediated rippling muscle disease.

Movement disorders associated with neuromuscular diseases are often underrecognized, yet they represent a distinct clinical entity. Abnormalities in areas of the peripheral nervous system, i.e., nerves and muscles, can stem from dysfunction of ion channels and proteins involved in membrane excitability. Hyperexcitability of peripheral motor nerves presents as cramps, stiffness, abnormal posture and gait, as well as changes in motor unit potentials during electromyography studies; hence, it may be classified as a movement problem. Etiologies range from hereditary, immune-mediated, or may be sec

Reframing myofascial pain syndrome: pathological disorder or adaptive protective response?

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is one of the most common causes of chronic pain. It is characterized by trigger points (TrPs) that are located within palpable taut bands (TBs) in muscles and their fascial structures. Traditionally, this clinical condition has been regarded as a dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system, commonly associated with mechanical overload, such as acute strain, repetitive movements, and/or abnormal posture holding. However, the intrinsic mechanisms underlying its development remain a subject of debate. This review proposes a paradigm shift: to consider MPS as a physio

Pediatric Interventions in a Sanfilippo Syndrome Patient Under General Anesthesia: A Case Report.

Background: Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) Type III (MPS III) or Sanfilippo syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive inherited metabolic disorder. This disorder is responsible for lysosomal storage disorder at the cellular aspect. Due to lysosomal enzyme perturbance leading to the alteration of macromolecule metabolisms, this cellular perturbance causes multiple severe systemic and mental outcomes. Sanfilippo syndrome is the most frequent lysosomal disorder among the different types of MPS. Case Presentation: A 9-year-9-month-old female was presented at our private clinic accompanied with her paren
