Exploring the Dynamic Invasion Pattern of the Black-Headed Fall Webworm in China: Susceptibility to Topography, Vegetation, and Human Activities.

The fall webworm (FWW), H. cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiidae), is an extremely high-risk globally invasive pest. Understanding the invasion dynamics of invasive pests and identifying the critical factors that promote their spread is essential for devising practical and efficient strategies for their control and management. The invasion dynamics of the FWW and its influencing factors were analyzed using standard deviation ellipse and spatial autocorrelation methods. The analysis was based on statistical data on the occurrence of the FWW in China. The dissemination pattern of the F

[Application of NGO-BP Neural Network in Battery Life Prediction of Portable Medical Devices].

The development of portable medical devices cannot be separated from safe and efficient batteries. Accurately predicting the remaining life of batteries can greatly improve the reliability of batteries, which is of great significance for portable medical devices. This article focuses on the high dependence of the BP neural network algorithm on initial weights and thresholds, as well as its tendency to fall into local minima. The Northern Goshawk Optimization (NGO) algorithm is used to optimize the BP neural network and to test the 18650 lithium battery data under different ambient temperatures

Feeding en route: Prey availability and traits influence prey selection by an avian predator on migration.

During animal migration, ephemeral communities of taxa at all trophic levels co-occur over space and time. The interactions between predators and prey along migration corridors are ecologically and evolutionarily significant. However, these interactions remain understudied in terrestrial systems and warrant further investigations using novel approaches. We investigated the predator-prey interactions between a migrating avivorous predator and ephemeral avian prey community in the fall migration season. We tested for associations between avian traits and prey selection and hypothesized that prey

T1R2/T1R3 polymorphism affects sweet and fat perception: Correlation between SNP and BMI in the context of obesity development.

Genetic variations in taste receptors are associated with gustatory perception and obesity, which in turn affects dietary preferences. Given the increasing tendency of people with obesity choosing sweet, high-fat meals, the current study assessed the cross-regulation of two polymorphisms of the sweet taste receptor (T1R2/T1R3), rs35874116 and rs307355, on fat sensitivity in Indian adults. We investigated the association between taste sensitivity and BMI in the T1R2, T1R3, and CD36 polymorphic and non-polymorphic groups. The general labelled magnitude scale (gLMS) was used to assess the taste s

Multi-Adaptive Strategies-Based Higher-Order Quantum Genetic Algorithm for Agile Remote Sensing Satellite Scheduling Problem.

The agile remote sensing satellite scheduling problem (ARSSSP) for large-scale tasks needs to simultaneously address the difficulties of complex constraints and a huge solution space. Taking inspiration from the quantum genetic algorithm (QGA), a multi-adaptive strategies-based higher-order quantum genetic algorithm (MAS-HOQGA) is proposed for solving the agile remote sensing satellites scheduling problem in this paper. In order to adapt to the requirements of engineering applications, this study combines the total task number and the total task priority as the optimization goal of the schedul

"Undoubtedly a race, but they are not human": Immuno-politics and the Recognition of the Jew as Pathogenic Nonself in Art Spiegelman's Maus.

This article engages with the immuno-political juxtaposition of the healthy self and the pathogenic other to critically examine the representation of Nazis and Jews in Art Spiegelman's Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel Maus (1996). Written as a postmemory narrative, Maus recounts the horrors experienced by the author's father Vladek Spiegelman as a survivor of the Holocaust that claimed an approximate six million Jewish lives. Beginning with the years leading up to World War II, Spiegelman's novel reimagines the discrimination, dislocation, and dehumanization suffered by Vladek and his fami

COVID-19 mutations: An overview.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) belongs to the genus Beta coronavirus and the family of Coronaviridae. It is a positive-sense, non-segmented single-strand RNA virus. Four common types of human coronaviruses circulate globally, particularly in the fall and winter seasons. They are responsible for 10%-30% of all mild upper respiratory tract infections in adults. These are 229E, NL63 of the Alfacoronaviridae family, OC43, and HKU1 of the Betacoronaviridae family. However, there are three highly pathogenic human coronaviruses: SARS-CoV-2, Middle East respiratory sy

Flagged observation analyses as a tool for scoping and communication in integrated ecosystem assessments.

Working groups for integrated ecosystem assessments are often challenged with understanding and assessing recent change in ecosystems. As a basis for this, the groups typically have at their disposal many time series and will often need to prioritize which ones to follow up for closer analyses and assessment. In this article we provide a procedure termed Flagged Observation analysis that can be applied to all the available time series to help identifying time series that should be prioritized. The statistical procedure first applies a structural time series model including a stochastic trend m

(Interfering) Cortical mechanisms of standing balance and cognition in old-age depression: A functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) study.

Major depressive disorder in old age can cause changes in the cerebral cortex that might lead to postural imbalance and thus increase fall risk. We aim to examine cortical activation during standing balance in depressed older patients compared to healthy controls and to determine how an additional cognitive task affects this activation. Eleven older patients (age ≥65 years) diagnosed with major depressive disorder and sixteen age-matched healthy controls participated in the study. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was used to assess cortical activation of the prefrontal (PFC) and m

Differences in the Temporal Extension of Self-Continuity Over the Course of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This study examined whether the average levels and the temporal extension of self-continuity varied over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Three demographically matched adult life-span samples (n = 223 each) were gathered in the U.S. in fall 2016, summer 2020, and winter 2022/23. Participants rated their self-continuity 1/5/10 years into the past and future. Multi-level analyses examined the effects of temporal distance, past/future direction, and assessment time while controlling for demographics. Average self-continuity did not vary across assessments, but the tendency to report lower sel
