Serial precordial mapping was done in 30 patients with acute anterior myocardial infarction, 27 transmural and 3 subendorcardial. The sum of ST elevations in the 48 lead map was designated as sigma ST. Normal sigma ST was calculated as 27.1+/-3.1 in males and 14.3+/-2.8 in females. The oxygen affinity of hemoglobin and the factors determining the position of the oxygen dissociation curve were investigated in twenty-five patients with severe chronic obstructive lung disease. A new synthetic absorbable suture, a copolymer of two simple hydroxy acids, glycolic acid and lactic acid, was evaluated in a laboratory and clinical study for its usefulness in ophthalmic surgery. Using an automatic indirect method of measurement, diurnal blood pressure patterns have been studied in normal and hypertensive pregnancies. In the last trimester, normotensive and hypertensive pregnant subjects show small but significant increases of blood pressure that develop especially during the evening and night. Sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium content was determined in the blood plasma, erythrocytes and the 24-hour urine. There was revealed an increased sodium content in erythrocytes, a fall of plasma potassium level, a reduction of urinary potassium excretion and of potassium-magnesium coefficient of the urine; a tendency to increase in the calcium and magnesium level was seen in erythrocytes. We studied serum concentrations of magnesium post-operatively in 41 patients divided up into four distinct groups, depending on the degree of seriousness of the operation, the loss of body fluids and the duration of intravenous feeding.
