PURPOSE: The aims of this study were to examine the prevalence of myoclonus, sweating, pruritus, hiccup, and vesical and rectal tenesmus, and to explore associated factors in patients with advanced cancer.
METHODS: This multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted in 23 inpatient hospices/palliative care units in Japan from January to December 2017. The prevalence and characteristics of each symptom were assessed on admission and in the 3 days before death. BACKGROUND: One common complication after kidney transplantation is a lymphocele. The aim of our work was an analysis of incidence of lymphocele and the effectiveness of minimal invasive methods in the management of this complication.

Efficacy and tolerance of a novel antimuscarinic drug solifenacin succinate (vesicar) were studied in 55 patients with hyperactive urinary bladder (HUB). All the patients were divided into two groups: 27 patients of group 1 received solifenacin in a dose 5 mg/day, 28 patients of group 2--in a dose 10 mg/day. The 3-month treatment has improved symptoms of the HUB compared to the initial level: a daily number of vesical tenesmus reduced in patients of groups 1 and 2 by 47 and 51%, respectively; a number of episodes of urgent urine incontinence by 53 and 65%, voiding--by 24 and 26%, respectively.

BACKGROUND: One of the most often occurring complications after a kidney transplantation is a lymphocele.
MATERIALS: The examined group consisted of 118 patients (70 males and 48 females) with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Forty-eight patients underwent surgery for rectal cancer. In all the patients total mesorectumectomy was combined with one of the types of nerves-preserving surgeries. Three groups were divided depending on types of this surgery: 1-- complete preservation of elements of autonomic nervous system (n=31), 2 -- partial preservation (n=16), 3 -- complete ablation (n=1). OBJECTIVES: Bilateral urinary obstruction is usually secondary to tumors or bilateral lithiasis. A rare case of encrusted cystitis causing bilateral hydronephrosis is described.
METHODS/RESULTS: A 70-year-old woman presented with severe dysuria and vesical tenesmus. She had previously undergone pelvic surgery and received radiotherapy for a gynecological tumor. She was diagnosed as having encrusted cystitis. Treatment with urinary acidification and antibiotics achieved complete radiological and functional recovery.
CONCLUSIONS: Some cases of urinary obstruction can be managed conservatively.

A prospective study was done to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravesical instillation of 1% alum solution in 12 cases of hematuria of vesical origin, uncontrolled by saline irrigation for 24 hours via a 3-way Foley catheter. The results of 350 cystoscopic studies, are presented. In 85.7%, urinary incontinence was present, and in 72% one or more of the following symptoms were present: urgency, dysuria, urinary frequency, vesical tenesmus and nycturia. The following were analyzed: age, parity, uroculture and its relation to cystoscopic findings. Most of the patients (64.5%) were 40 to 60 years old, 54% had seven or more deliveries. Most frequent diagnoses were: urethritis alone or with trigonitis (66.8%) and urethral stenosis (meatus) in 31.4%. Uroculture was done in 96% and it was positive in 20% and negative 76%.
