[Male urinary incontinence].

While not uncommon, urinary incontinence is less common in men than in women incidence increases, reaching up to 32% at age 80. There are several mechanisms of UI, with urgency being the most common, accounting for 40 to 80% of cases.UI due to chronic retention secondary to benign prostatic hypertrophy is not the only cause, and symptoms of bladder hyperactivity with incontinence should be treated with caution. Incontinence due to sphincter insufficiency is mainly secondary to prostate surgery (hypertrophy or cancer). While the patient's request for treatment of this UI should be paramount, co-

Social Isolation and Urgency Urinary Incontinence Among Older Women in the United States: The Modifying Effect of Anxiety and Depression.

PURPOSE: To examine associations between social isolation and urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) among older women and evaluate anxiety or depression as modifiers. METHOD: We conducted a cross-sectional study of women aged ≥65 years in two National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey cycles (2015 to 2016 and 2017 to 2018). UUI was defined as leakage in the past year with an urge to urinate. Social isolation was measured using a four-item index and categorized as none, low, or high. Anxiety was defined as feeling worried/nervous at least once per month, and depression as a Patient Health Q

Ultrasound assessment of mid-urethral slings: A practical reporting framework based on expert opinion and narrative literature review.

Pelvic floor ultrasound is widely used for the postoperative evaluation of mid-urethral slings (MUS), but reporting practices remain heterogeneous. This expert-based narrative review proposes a practical ultrasound reporting framework for the assessment of MUS using routine pelvic ultrasound and dedicated transperineal/translabial imaging. Suggested reporting items include sling identification, position, morphology, relationship to the urethra, dynamic behavior during Valsalva, and potential postoperative complications. The proposed framework aims to improve reporting consistency, facilitate m

Outcomes of Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation Using TENSI+ Device for Lower Urinary Tract Symptom Management: A Monocentric Study.

INTRODUCTION: Transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation (TTNS) has emerged as a non-invasive therapeutic option for LUTS management in both sexes, yet long-term real-world data remain scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of TENSI+ therapy and predictive factors associated with treatment response after mid-term follow-up. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective monocentric study including all patients treated with the TENSI+ device between August 2020 and January 2023. Data were collected from electronic medical records and standardized telephone intervi

Reevaluating predictive factors for treatment success in therapy with OnabotulinumtoxinA for iOAB in a real-world study.

BACKGROUND: OnabotulinumtoxinA is an established third-line therapy for idiopathic overactive bladder (iOAB), with efficacy demonstrated in randomized trials and real-world studies. Despite the growing body of literature, predictors of treatment response remain insufficiently defined, with heterogeneous endpoints and definitions across studies. We performed a retrospective analysis to reevaluate prior identified predictors of treatment success using both patient-reported and objective outcomes. METHODS: We included consecutive patients receiving a first intradetrusor injection of 100AE onabot

Patient Experience With Office-Based Polyacrylamide Hydrogel Injection.

IMPORTANCE: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is prevalent and has a significant effect on quality of life. Urethral bulking with polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAHG) provides a minimally invasive treatment option for SUI caused by intrinsic sphincter deficiency. However, limited data exist evaluating patient experience with in-office PAHG injection performed without sedation. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to compare anticipated and experienced pain with in-office PAHG injection under local anesthesia and to assess patient satisfaction with the procedure. STUDY DESIGN: This prospec

[Stress urinary incontinence in women].

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is an involuntary loss of urine triggered by physical activities, coughing, or changes in body position. It affects 14% of women in France and is associated with risk factors including obesity, pregnancy, traumatic deliveries, hormonal changes, age, intense physical activity, pelvic surgeries, chronic cough and constipation, The impact on patients is significant, affecting their quality of life and leading to high healthcare costs.Diagnosis relies on questionnaires and a detailed clinical examination to distinguish between types of incontinence. The initial tr

Near-Obliterative Bulbar Urethral Stricture 12 Years After Artificial Urinary Sphincter Implantation: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Artificial urinary sphincter implantation is guideline-supported for post-prostatectomy stress urinary incontinence; however, ultra-late urethral deterioration remains poorly characterized. CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old man underwent radical retropubic prostatectomy in December 2006, followed by salvage radiotherapy in April 2007. Twelve years after artificial urinary sphincter implantation, intraluminal cuff exposure was incidentally detected on cystoscopy before urethral catheterization for orthopedic surgery. Urinalysis at diagnosis and pre-explant urine culture were unrem

Ecological Momentary Assessment Reveals Greater Anxiety and Marked Instability of Urinary Urgency in Overactive Bladder.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Overactive bladder (OAB) is highly prevalent and frequently co-occurs with anxiety. Although cross-sectional studies associate anxiety and OAB symptoms, anxiety and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) vary in daily life. We applied ecological momentary assessment (EMA), consisting of four brief surveys administered via participants' smartphones over 7-14 days, to characterize severity and variability of anxiety and LUTS among individuals with and without OAB, and by sex among those with OAB. METHODS: Three hundred thirty-one participants with active OAB symptoms a
