Penile involvement of urothelial carcinoma is a rare clinical entity typically arising from primary pelvic tumours and is usually associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis. However, distinguishing between true penile metastasis and late urethral recurrence is challenging, particularly in patients with urethral preservation after radical cystectomy (RC). We report the case of a 77-year-old male with a history of high-grade invasive urothelial carcinoma (pT2a N0) with concomitant carcinoma in situ (CIS), treated with RC and uretero-ileal urinary diversion with urethral preservation. Te

Streptococcus agalactiae or group B streptococcus (GBS), is an uncommon cause of male urethritis. We report a case of 38-year-old man presenting with 5 days of urethral discharge, dysuria, and pruritus. Testing for common sexually transmitted pathogens was negative. GBS was isolated as the sole organism from urethral swab and urine cultures. The patient was successfully treated with 10 days course of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. This case highlights GBS as a rare but potential cause of male urethritis when common pathogens are excluded. Further studies are required to clarify optimal antibio

A man in his early 30s presented with a 3 week history of dysuria, urinary frequency, urethral discharge and cloudy urine despite two courses of antibiotics. He subsequently developed a tender perineal swelling. His urine flow rate was normal and on flexible cystoscopy, a cystic bulging area distal to the external urethral sphincter was visualised. A pelvic MRI scan revealed a cystic abnormality at the bulb in the midline measuring 3.5×2.1×1.9 cm, consistent with a syringocele of the bulb. The patient underwent endoscopic laser deroofing of the syringocele. Syringocele is a rare abnormality in

UNLABELLED: Esophageal cancer remains a significant global health challenge with increasing rates of incidence and mortality, particularly esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), with higher prevalence in Asia. This study aims to investigate the cytotoxicity and potential cell death mechanisms (i.e., apoptosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis, and pyroptosis) induced by three newly synthesized benzamidine derivatives (NBDs) against the ESCC KYSE-150 cell line. MTT cell viability assay was used to assess the cytotoxic effect of the NBDs on the ESCC cell line, KYSE-150, and the normal esophageal epi

BACKGROUND: Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) accounts for 25% urology clinic visits. Due to significant overlap with other conditions, CP/CPPS is frequently misdiagnosed and inadequately managed. Therefore, we provided a simplified diagnostic and treatment approach to CP/CPPS by subdividing it into distinct subcategories.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We systematically reviewed the published literature about CP/CPPS and its "associated entities", including interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, chronic bacterial vesiculitis, symptomatic prostate calcification, pudenda

BACKGROUND: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a major cause of sexually transmitted bacterial infections, poses a significant public health challenge, particularly due to rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Regions such as South-East Asia and Africa may face substantial and possibly rising burdens of gonorrhoea, though the full extent remains unclear due to limited diagnostic testing, underreporting, and gaps in aetiological and antimicrobial resistance surveillance - especially in countries lacking population-based prevalence estimates. Addressing deficiencies in data from these regions, particularly

BACKGROUND: Pharyngeal Neisseria gonorrhoeae (phNG) infections are difficult to treat and contribute to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in NG, but studies on phNG and differences with urogenital NG (uNG) are limited.
METHODS: Participants with urethral discharge syndrome (UDS) were recruited at health clinics in Kampala, Uganda, between July 2020 and August 2023. Penile-meatal and pharyngeal swabs were cultured for NG and tested by nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) for NG, Chlamydia trachomatis, and Mycoplasma genitalium. Paired uNG and phNG isolates were subjected to susceptibility testi

We conducted a cross-sectional study to estimate the prevalence of urogenital and extragenital sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among men who have sex with men (MSM) with and without urethral discharge syndrome, to assess infections missed by syndromic management, and to describe phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The study included 189 MSM attending the Engage Men's Health Clinic in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2024. Urethral, rectal and oropharyngeal swabs were tested by multiplex PCR for Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT),

Neisseria gonorrhoeae conjunctivitis is rare in adults but may rapidly progress to vision-threatening complications. Peripheral ulcerative keratitis (PUK) is an unusual and severe manifestation. A 42-year-old male presented with bilateral ocular pain, swelling, and profuse purulent discharge for 15 days, leading to inability to open his eyes. History revealed recent urethral discharge and multiple sexual contacts. Ocular examination showed severe conjunctival chemosis and peripheral corneal thinning with descemetocele formation. Gram stain of conjunctival swabs demonstrated intracellular gram-

Neisseria meningitidis is a well-known cause of invasive diseases such as meningitis and septicemia, but is increasingly recognized as an emerging urogenital pathogen. We report the case of a 36-year-old man who presented to a tertiary hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with persistent dysuria and purulent urethral discharge. Despite initial treatment for nonspecific urethritis and subsequent management for chronic prostatitis with levofloxacin and azithromycin, his symptoms persisted. Although standard multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays for common sexually transmitted infections

Neisseria meningitidis is an uncommon cause of genitourinary infection, and chronic prostatitis caused by this organism has rarely been reported. A 34-year-old man presented with recurrent dysuria and urethral discharge after oral sexual exposure. Initially misdiagnosed as gonococcal urethritis, the patient achieved only partial improvement after empirical therapy. Culture of midstream urine and expressed prostatic secretions, confirmed by biochemical testing,MALDI-TOF MS and 16S rDNA sequencing, identified N. meningitidis. Targeted antimicrobial therapy resulted in clinical and microbiologica

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l
