Distress level in newly diagnosed thyroid cancer patients and predictors of clinically significant distress.

PURPOSE: Although thyroid cancer has a favorable prognosis, patients experience significant psychological distress from the time of diagnosis. The study aimed to investigate the distress level in patients diagnosed or suspected of thyroid cancer, to characterize the major sources, and to determine the independent predictors of distress. METHODS: In this prospective study, patients who had presented to our institution between January 2024 and June 2025 were asked to complete the online questionnaires including the Distress Thermometer (DT) with problem list (PL). Group comparisons between the

Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Restore Standards in Medical and Dental Education in Pakistan.

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

Dual Roles of SIRT7 Inhibition by Oroxylin A Reprogram HSCs Fate: PRMT5 Succinylation-Driven Senescence and Ecto-Calreticulin-Dependent NK Cell Immune Clearance in Liver Fibrosis.

Activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) represents a central pathological event in liver fibrogenesis, and targeted clearance of activated HSCs is considered to be a promising therapeutic strategy. However, our understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms is limited. Here, we report that Oroxylin A (OA) inhibited the activation of HSCs by inhibiting the dual roles of Sirtuin 7 (SIRT7). Single-cell transcriptome sequencing analysis and bioinformatics analysis were employed to identify critical pathways, followed by validation through molecular assays including Western blotting, immu

Associations of Tai Chi With Depression and Anxiety Among Older Adults: Nationwide Study Findings From a Network Perspective.

Within the global population, depression and anxiety are common among older adults. Tai Chi is believed to have a positive impact on these disturbances. This study examined the network structures of depression and anxiety among older Tai Chi practitioners vs non-practitioners. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to construct a non-practitioner group based on Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) data. 346 Tai Chi practitioners and 1019 non-practitioners were included. The prevalence and severity rates of depression were significantly lower among Tai Chi practitioners compa

A network analysis of depression and anxiety symptoms among Chinese elderly living alone: based on the 2017-2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS).

BACKGROUND: Elderly individuals living alone represent a vulnerable group with limited family support, making them more susceptible to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. This study aims to construct a network model of depression and anxiety symptoms among older adults living alone, exploring the correlations and centrality of different symptoms. The goal is to identify core and bridging symptoms to inform clinical interventions. METHODS: Using data from the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), this study constructed a network model of depression and an

Validation of the multi-day Boston remote assessment of neurocognitive health (BRANCH) among cognitively impaired & unimpaired older adults.

BACKGROUND: The multi-day Boston Remote Assessment of Neurocognitive Health (BRANCH) is a remote, web-based assessment designed to capture the earliest cognitive changes in the preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD). It has been validated in unimpaired older adults, but as individuals progress on the AD continuum, assessments need to remain feasible and valid at different clinical stages. The focus of this study was to assess feasibility and validity of multi-day BRANCH in participants with and without cognitive impairment. METHODS: For seven days participants completed the BRANCH para

Associations Between the Neural Stress Response and Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression.

Anxiety and depression disorders show high prevalence rates, and stress is a significant risk factor for both. However, studies investigating the interplay between anxiety, depression, and stress regulation in the brain are scarce. The present manuscript included 124 law students from the LawSTRESS project. Anxiety and depression symptoms were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and psychosocial stress was induced with the imaging stress paradigm ScanSTRESS. Anxiety, but not depression scores, were significantly related to neural stress responses in a striato-limbi

Applying machine learning to ecological momentary assessment data to identify predictors of loss-of-control eating and overeating severity in adolescents: A preliminary investigation.

OBJECTIVE: Several factors (e.g., interpersonal stress, affect) predict loss-of-control (LOC) eating and overeating in adolescents, but most past research has tested predictors separately. We applied machine learning to simultaneously evaluate multiple possible predictors of LOC-eating and overeating severity in pooled and person-specific models. METHOD: Twenty-eight adolescents (78.57% female, age = 15.87 ± 1.59 years, BMI %ile = 92.71 ± 8.86) who endorsed ≥ two past-month LOC-eating episodes completed a week-long ecological momentary assessment protocol. Pooled models were fit to the aggreg

Examining the influence of two emotion regulation strategies on anxiety in Chinese college students: insights from cross-lagged and moderated network models.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety, a prevalent and detrimental mental disorder, usually emerges in late adolescence and emerging adulthood. Emotion regulation strategies, namely expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal, share a close relation with the onset and maintenance of anxiety. Yet the relation between anxiety and emotion regulation strategies remains controversial and warrants further clarification. METHODS: The generalized anxiety disorder-7 (GAD-7) was used to measure the anxiety disorders and the emotion regulation questionnaire (ERQ) was utilized to assess the use of two emotion regulat

Isolation and evaluation of rhoifolin: an anxiolytic flavonoid from Citrus paradisi Macfayden var. redblush leaves.

Citrus species have a history of use in treating neurological conditions like insomnia, anxiety, and nervousness, though these claims lack exhaustive validation. This study evaluated the anxiolytic activity of Citrus paradisi Macfayden var. redblush leaves, aiming to isolate and characterise the bioactive constituent. Four leaf extracts (petroleum ether (60-80 °C), chloroform, methanol and aqueous) were evaluated for anxiolytic activity using elevated plus maze (EPM) in mice. The methanol extract showed anxiolytic activity and was subjected to bioactivity guided isolation using solvent partiti
