Compared ambulatory blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) in 30 paramedics during a 24-hr workday and a 24-hr nonworkday. To determine how patients with epilepsy feel about their condition, their current medication and their treatment, a mail survey was conducted among a random selection of 800 members of the British Epilepsy Association (BEA). Completed questionnaires were received from 437 members (55% response rate). Psychologic distress and gastric motor dysfunction have both been implicated in the pathogenesis of functional (non-ulcer) dyspepsia (FD). This study assesses the association between psychologic factors and gastric emptying in 28 FD patients. Subjects completed an extensive range of psychologic questionnaires and underwent dual-isotope scintigraphic assessment of solid and liquid gastric emptying. Multiple regression was used to predict psychiatric symptoms among homeless people. The following variables were significant predictors of psychiatric symptoms: current life satisfaction, previous psychiatric hospitalization, the number of stressful life events, social support, problem drinking, and childhood unhappiness. The results are discussed in terms of their policy and practice implications, particularly the need for crisis intervention services and for dual-diagnosed clients.

Anger, under any circumstances, is difficult to experience and understand. When associated with grief, anger seems startling and somewhat inappropriate. Yet the failure to recognize and the inability to work with angry feelings may compromise and inhibit the necessary grieving process. If not confronted directly, anger emerges in a variety of disguises such as disabling illness, maladaptive behavior, and chronic unhappiness. Using numerous case examples, the authors address the role of anger in the grieving process.

In order to determine whether adolescent females with abnormal eating attitudes display lower levels of self-esteem and higher levels of anxiety than their peers, and whether these adolescents participate in health-risk behaviors to a greater or lesser degree than their peers, we administered a series of questionnaires to the females attending a suburban high school in New York State.
