Dysregulation of the orexin-leptin-ghrelin axis and its associations with chronotype and sleep disturbances in drug-naïve children with ADHD.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder defined by inattention and behavioral dysregulation. Sleep disturbances are frequently reported in ADHD and strongly associated with circadian rhythms and sleep-wake regulation. Given the pivotal involvement of orexin, leptin and ghrelin systems in the modulation of cognitive, metabolic and circadian functions, this study aimed to investigate whether serum orexin-A, orexin-B, leptin and ghrelin levels are associated with chronotype and sleep disturbances in children with ADHD. Forty-five drug-naïve ADHD patients a

EEG responses to auditory cues during speech preparation predict stuttering severity and intervention outcome.

Stuttering is a variable speech disorder whose brain mechanisms remain unknown. Sensorimotor brain circuits, critical in motor-speech control, including the prediction and monitoring of speech consequences, have been linked to the disorder. Despite considerable advances, it remains unclear whether auditory neural circuits relate to stuttering severity, and whether interventions to persons who stutter can induce underlying brain changes. We employed electroencephalography (EEG), in a group of persons who stutter (PWS), in combination with auditory probes to tap onto the relevance of auditory co

Investigating differential effects of interventions to prevent obesity in children and young people: a novel analytic framework.

BACKGROUND: Recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the effects of interventions to prevent obesity in children aged 5-18 years identified over 200 randomised trials. Interventions targeting diet, activity (including physical activity and sedentary behaviours) and both diet and activity appear to have small but beneficial effects on average. However, these effects varied between studies and might be explained by variation in characteristics of the interventions, for example, by the extent to which the children enjoyed the intervention or whether they aim to modify behaviour through educ

Working life experiences of people who stutter in Finland: Recommendations for enhancing inclusive communication at work.

PURPOSE: People who stutter (PWS) face public stigma, characterized by negative societal beliefs and stereotypes. Due to lack of awareness, PWS may be perceived as inferior and less intelligent, capable, and social, affecting their psychological well-being. While some aspects of the impact of stuttering-such as income, role entrapment, and discrimination-have been explored in previous research, less is known about the deeper personal experiences of PWS in working life. This study highlights the workplace experiences of PWS, their personal aspirations, and ideas for improvement. By understandin

Clinical practice guideline for nonpharmacological prevention and management of patient agitation in the adult intensive care unit (CALM ICU).

BACKGROUND: Agitation affects 32-70% of adult patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and is associated with disruption of life-saving treatment, prolonged hospitalisation, and psychological trauma. While nonpharmacological interventions are increasingly encouraged to reduce the reliance on sedatives, existing guidelines predominantly focus on pharmacological management. This contributes to inconsistent practices and underutilisation of effective person-centred nonpharmacological alternatives. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to develop evidence-based recommendations for the nonph

Associations among acculturative stress, body ideal internalization, body dissatisfaction and eating pathology among Asian, Black, and Latino men.

BACKGROUND: Empirical findings support the association between acculturative stress and eating pathology, however, relatively few studies have examined mechanisms of this link among racially and ethnically diverse men. The current study addressed these gaps by examining the potential roles of thin-, and muscular-ideal internalization and body dissatisfaction as mediators of the relation between acculturative stress and eating pathology among Asian, Black, and Latino men. METHODS: Adult men from across the United States (Asian N = 110; Black N = 117; Latino N = 85) completed measures of accult

Network analysis of eating disorders (NAMED): an exploratory study of symptom configuration at different stages of illness.

BACKGROUND: Eating disorders represent a complex category of conditions, characterized by dysfunctional thoughts and behaviours about food and body weight or shape, heterogeneous clinical presentations, diagnostic migration and comorbidity. Such complexity highlights the limitations of conventional classification systems, which overlook clinically relevant eating-disorder characteristics such as illness progression. The clinimetric staging model presents an alternative conceptualization that may help differentiate stages of eating-disorder illness by focusing on clinically-relevant but often n

Early Detection of Neural Fatigue in Clinically Healthy Postpartum Mothers Using Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy.

Background Postpartum mothers often experience depressive symptoms and emotional fluctuations that can affect parenting behavior and increase the risk of child maltreatment. Previous studies have reported reduced prefrontal activation in postpartum women; however, few have clarified the temporal changes in neural activity associated with sustained cognitive load. This study aimed to detect early signs of neural fatigue in clinically healthy mothers by measuring prefrontal activation during task performance using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Methods Eight mothers at one month postpartum (
