Azathioprine sodium has been reported to be effective therapy for chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus (LE) but rarely for chronic cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LV). We used azathioprine in the treatment of six patients with cutaneous LE, four of whom had subacute cutaneous (nonscarring) LE and two of whom had chronic cutaneous (scarring, discoid) LE, and six patients with chronic cutaneous LV. A 54-year-old man was receiving calcium dobesilate for retinopathy and after 8 days he presented fever of more than 39 degrees C, generalized myalgia, chills and headache. Other causes of fever were ruled out. A challenge test was done with a single therapeutic oral dose of calcium dobesilate and fever appeared 20 h later and lasted 8 h. Our patient fulfils Young's stringent criteria for drug fever. To our knowledge drug-induced fever due to calcium dobesilate has not been reported previously.

A case of hyperpyrexia induced by procarbazine in a child with Hodgkin's disease, neurofibromatosis, and pectus excavatum deformity is presented. Drug-induced fever due to histamine H2-receptor blockers was experienced by a 55-year-old man. The patient became febrile 5 days after receiving cimetidine, and continued to be febrile until the drug was stopped. His maximum body temperature was above 40 degrees C. Drug-induced fever has been associated with many agents. We treated a patient who developed high, spiking fevers while receiving intravenous acyclovir. Rechallenge with the drug was not attempted. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of drug-induced fever in patients who receive systemic acyclovir.

The toxicity of high dose cytosine arabinoside (Ara-C) in 23 leukemic children aged 1.5 years to 16 years 11 months was evaluated.
