A case of tattoo-related sarcoidosis with generalised lymph node enlargement.

We report the case of a 39-year-old man who was admitted for evaluation of enlarged lymph nodes. A lymph node biopsy showed CD68- and 1α-hydroxylase-positive non-caseating epithelioid granuloma. Sarcoidosis was diagnosed because of mildly elevated angiotensin-converting enzyme levels and hypercalcemia. We noted tattoos (which were created 10 years earlier) on the left upper arm and forearm. It was hypothesised that some component in the tattoos had triggered a systemic foreign body reaction by macrophages, resulting in sarcoidosis. Treatment with steroids was ineffective, but additional treatm

Successfully cured a rare case of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma combined with hepato-gastric schwannoma using robot-assisted surgery: case report.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is among the most common malignant tumors. Robot-assisted surgery using the cervical and thoracoabdominal incisions is a viable treatment option for ESCC. This case report presents a rare instance of ESCC complicated by hepato-gastric schwannoma, offering clinical insights and treatment strategies. A 69-year-old patient diagnosed with ESCC via gastroscopy was admitted without complaints of dysphagia. Gastroscopy revealed swollen erosions approximately 32-38 cm from the incisors. Pathology confirmed high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia and squamous cell

Machine learning models for diagnosing lymph node recurrence in postoperative PTC patients: a radiomic analysis.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) patients often have enlarged cervical lymph nodes due to inflammation or hyperplasia, which complicates the assessment of recurrence or metastasis. This study aimed to explore the diagnostic capabilities of computed tomography (CT) imaging and radiomic analysis to distinguish the recurrence of cervical lymph nodes in patients with PTC postoperatively. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 194 PTC patients who underwent total thyroidectomy was conducted, with 98 cases of cervical lymph node recurrence and 96 cases without re

Deep-learning based morphological segmentation of canine diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in humans, accounting for about 30-40% of NHL cases worldwide. Canine diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (cDLBCL) is the most common lymphoma subtype in dogs and demonstrates an aggressive biologic behaviour. For tissue biopsies, current confirmatory diagnostic approaches for enlarged lymph nodes rely on expert histopathological assessment, which is time-consuming and requires specialist expertise. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop tools to support and improve veterinary diagnostic workflows. Advances in

Femoral hernia caused by endometriosis in femoral lymph nodes: a rare case report.

Endometriosis is a chronic, estrogen-dependent disease commonly affecting pelvic organs. Lymph node involvement is rare and even more so when leading to herniation. We report a rare case of a 41-year-old woman with no prior history of endometriosis, who presented with right groin pain and a palpable mass. Imaging suggested a femoral hernia. During open surgical repair, enlarged lymph nodes were discovered in the femoral canal causing femoral hernia. Histopathological analysis revealed endometriotic tissue within the lymph nodes. This case highlights a rare extrapelvic manifestation of endometr

Analysis of local aggressiveness and malignancy transformation potential of ameloblastoma through osteopontin and CD10 expression (Immunohistochemical research).

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastoma is a benign, slow-growing odontogenic neoplasia that can infiltrate soft tissue and penetrate bone. Molecular markers like IHC staining with Osteopontin and CD10 antibodies can help understand the abnormalities and predict malignant transformation. This study aims to improve diagnosis and treatment by tracking these indicators alongside other clinicopathological aspects. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study analyzed the correlation between OPN and CD10 expression and ameloblastoma aggressiveness and malignant transformation using 35 paraffin blocks. IHC staining was perfo

Prognostic impact of lymphadenectomy in patients with advanced ovarian clear cell carcinoma: an ancillary analysis of the JGOG3017-A4 study.

BACKGROUND: Systematic pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy in stage IIB-IVB patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, undergoing complete abdominal macroscopic resection with normal lymph nodes, was revealed to have no prognostic significance for survival in the LION trial. However, the proportion of patients with ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) in the LION trial was only 2.2%, so the significance of systematic retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy in patients with OCCC remains unclear. METHODS: We conducted an ancillary analysis of 619 patients enrolled in a randomized phase III trial (JGOG 3017)

Automated target misalignment correction for cone beam computed tomography-based online adaptive radiotherapy of locally advanced lung cancer patients.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Locally advanced lung cancer patients are commonly treated with daily cone beam CT (CBCT) guided radiotherapy using one treatment isocenter. Due to differential motion between primary tumor (GTVprim) and affected lymph nodes, a compromise needs to be made during daily patient alignment, requiring enlarged treatment margins. In this work, an online adaptive (OART) strategy was proposed to correct for residual target misalignments and enable treatment margin reduction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We developed in-house an application that produced a synthetic CT (sCT) and delin

Robotic Lateral Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection for Advanced Rectal Cancer: Bridging Eastern Surgical Precision and Western Multimodal Strategy.

Background: Management of lateral pelvic lymph node (LPLN) metastasis in advanced lower rectal cancer has historically exemplified a fundamental East-West divide. In Japan, the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum (JSCCR) considers LPLN metastasis a regional manifestation requiring lateral pelvic lymph node dissection (LPLND). In contrast, Western practice has long approached LPLN disease as systemic, prioritizing neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) followed by total mesorectal excision (TME) without additional lateral clearance. Recent Advances: Evidence generated from the JCO

Asymptomatic Splenic Infarction Following Total Gastrectomy: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Splenic infarction is a disease that develops as a result of a thrombotic predisposition. Most areas of malperfusion are usually small and unnoticeable. However, when massive infarction occurs, it is often diagnosed after the onset of clinical symptoms, such as abdominal pain or fever. In contrast, asymptomatic postoperative extensive splenic infarction is occasionally observed. Although conservative management is generally the first-line treatment for splenic infarction, surgical intervention is indicated in cases complicated by splenic abscess or rupture. Some reports suggest t

Infection Leading to Breast Abscess Formation in Pregnancy: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Breast abscess, the most severe complication of mastitis, occurs when an infection spreads through the nipple into the breast tissue, contaminating the milk ducts and forming a purulent cavity. Nonetheless, this condition is less common in pregnant women. Staphylococcus aureus is the predominant causative agent in lactating women; however, Prevotella bivia-associated breast abscesses during pregnancy remain clinically rare, with limited documented cases. CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old Chinese woman with G1P0 singleton at 33 weeks of pregnancy presented with right breast pain a
