A 20 years-old girl presented with multiple asymptomatic reddish vesicles on face for four years. It used to get worse in summer and was associated with localized hyperhidrosis. The lesions were notable for disappearance on diascopy. Histopathology from the vesicle showed mononuclear cell infiltration in the upper dermis, especially around eccrine sweat apparatus, along with dilatation of superficial capillaries and lymphatics. Based on clinical presentation and histopathology, diagnosis of Granulosis rubra nasi (GRN) was made. GRN usually resolves at puberty; however, rarely it may persist in

Hereditary capillary malformations are known to be caused by mutations in the RASA1 gene. The associated phenotype is still subject of debate. The purpose of this study was to conduct a RASA1 mutation analysis in the family that led to the initial discovery of the 5q locus, and to delineate the associated phenotype. A novel truncating mutation was identified in all clinically affected individuals and in none of the unaffected members. The associated phenotype was widely variable; all individuals had multifocal CM with at least one area of high flow. Various additional features were observed, s

BACKGROUND: Hyperhidrosis is a functional disorder characterized by increased sweating that can greatly impair quality of life due to psychosocial factors. It is most often localized (underarms, hands, feet) but can also be generalized. In this case, after eliminating an underlying cause, systemic treatment may be proposed. In this retrospective study, we report the benefits and adverse effects of the anticholinergic drug oxybutynin.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients treated with oxybutynin between February 2008 and October 2010 for troublesome generalized hyperhidrosis were recruited after

Postmenopausal hyperhidrosis is a form of secondary hyperhidrosis, and hormone-replacement therapy is a commonly used therapeutic option. However, some women do not benefit from this treatment, and oral anticholinergics are a logical alternative for reducing generalized sweating in these patients. Twenty-one patients were medicated with 5 or 10 mg of oxybutynin per day. After a 3-month follow-up period, efficacy was assessed with the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale (HDSS) and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) was used to assess the improvement in patients' quality of life. The HDS

BACKGROUND: Basically two types of sweating exist: thermoregulatory and emotional sweating. They are controlled by different centers: thermo regulatory sweating is regulated predominantly by the hypothalamus, emotional sweating predominantly by the limbic system. Enhanced sweating, called hyperhidrosis, can be generalized or focal. Primary focal hyperhidrosis is the most common type and affects the axillae, hands, feet, and face--areas principally involved in emotional sweating. Secondary hyperhidrosis develops due to dysfunction of the central or peripheral nervous system.

An eccrine nevus is a rare hamartoma characterized by an increase in the number or size of eccrine glands. Eccrine nevi usually present as localized hyperhidrosis and are not associated with overlying skin abnormalities. However, among the cases that have been reported in the literature, some unique presentations of eccrine nevi have been demonstrated, including a pigmented patch, a depressed nodule, linear papules, and a sacral skin tag. Herein, we report two unusual cases of coccygeal polypoid eccrine nevi and review the literature.

The aim of this study was to develop a model to evaluate the efficacy of drugs with expected sweat-reducing properties in healthy subjects in order to select candidate drugs for the systemic treatment of primary generalized hyperhidrosis. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled cross-over study was performed in 8 healthy subjects. Sweating was induced by exercise. The degree of sweating at different exercise levels was determined by measurement of transepidermal water loss. Either the anticholinergic drug oxybutynin or placebo was given before measurements started. No statistically sign

OBJECTIVES: Oxybutynin has been proven to be effective in patients with generalized hyperhidrosis. Some dermatoses aggravate as a result of sweating. Therefore, oxybutynin might also be useful in such normohidrotic patients. The aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of different doses of oxybutynin on exercise-induced sweating in healthy individuals.
METHODS: Two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over studies were performed, in which two different dosages (2.5 and 5 mg) of oxybutynin were tested. The degree of sweating was determined by transepidermal water loss (TEWL)

Eccrine nevi are very rare cutaneous lesions which may or may not be accompanied by localized hyperhidrosis. Histological findings usually reveal a slightly increased number of eccrine glands without any other abnormalities. Herein we present a case of eccrine nevus not associated with localized hyperhidrosis on the left wrist of a 6-year-old girl. The lesion was a brownish, ovoid plaque approximately 1.0 × 1.5 cm in size, with a hyperkeratotic, slightly scaly papule in the center. It was treated by surgical excision.

OBJECTIVE: The treatment of hyperhidrosis, generalized or focal is a challenge for both physicians and surgeons. Focal hyperhidrosis--axillary, palmar, plantar, craniofacial--is the most common. Generalized hyperhidrosis is usually secondary to a systemic disorder or may be simply drug induced. Focal hyperhidrosis has its onset in childhood or adolescence and has a dramatic effect on one's quality of life. Medical, surgical, and electrical therapies can be employed to relieve hyperhidrosis in most patients.
METHODS: A review of the medical and surgical literature was performed to identify the

Botulinum toxin A is widely used in Europe and the USA for the treatment of localized hyperhidrosis, and its efficacy has been recognized. In this study, botulinum toxin A (Botox) was locally injected at 30 sites (2 U/injection) on the right palm in 27 patients with palmar hyperhidrosis (14 severe patients, 13 mild patients), and the results confirmed the efficacy of injection. The amount of sweat was then quantified for the left and right hands every month after local injection. The quantity of sweat on the treated hand was approximately one-fifth that on the untreated hand. In addition, the

Hyperhidrosis is a debilitating condition that affects approximately 2.8% of the population. Patients experience reduced quality of life and face significantly impairment in social interactions and occupational activities. Primary focal hyperhidrosis stems from neurogenic overactivity involving normal eccrine glands, while secondary generalized hyperhidrosis is due to any one of a number of causes. Patient history, physical examination, and appropriate laboratory tests should rule out secondary causes of hyperhidrosis. For primary hyperhidrosis, rate and volume of sweat production and quality

We present a 5-month-old girl with one localized plaque in a bandlike distribution on the left wrist since birth. Localized hyperhidrosis was also noted. Histopathologic examination of the lesion showed typical findings of mucinous eccrine nevus. Our report may serve to alert dermatologists to consider this entity in congenital lesions.

Hyperhidrosis is a common ailment, which is accompanied by a low quality of life. There are many current treatment options. The aims of this study were to investigate: (i) the characteristics of sweating in patients referred for hyperhidrosis; (ii) their quality of life, using the Dermatology Life Quality Index and the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale; and (iii) their estimation of efficacy of the treatments given, using a patient's global assessment score and the quality of life scores. In 47 of 94 patients (50%) responding to the questionnaires, hyperhidrosis was confined exclusively to

Patients with hyperhidrosis suffer from physical, social and mental discomfort which often cannot be treated sufficiently using conservative measures. A new percutaneous approach to sympathectomy using radiofrequency denervation has seemed to offer longer duration of action and less incidence of post sympathetic neuralgia. This article reports the authors' experience with sympathetic RF neurolysis in a 35 year old male with right unilateral lumbar hyperhidrosis. Under scopy guided localization of the lumbar spine sympathetic blockade with local anesthetics to L2-5 vertebral levels were perform

Idiopathic localized hyperhidrosis, called for hyperhidrosis, affects almost 3% of the US population. The most frequent anatomic sites of involvement include the axillae, palms, soles, and face. For those affected, this condition can be extremely socially debilitating and interfere with work activities. Until recently, frequently ineffective topical regimens or problematic surgical procedures have been the treatments of choice. Since 1996, intracutaneous injections of botulinum toxin have been used as a minimally invasive treatment for this condition with numerous studies documenting safety, e

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic hyperhidrosis may be a disabling condition causing emotional stress and negative impact on a patient's quality of life. Oral anticholinergics are one of the treatments available. There are few published data on the use of the anticholinergic drug glycopyrronium bromide (glycopyrrolate) given orally in the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
OBJECTIVES: To report a retrospective analysis describing the treatment responses, doses and side-effects of oral glycopyrrolate in the treatment of idiopathic hyperhidrosis.
