Outcome and Challenges in the Treatment of Pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma With Euronet-PHL-C1 Protocol: Experience From a Resource-Limited Country.

BACKGROUND: The Euronet-PHL-C1 protocol has yielded excellent results for pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL), by omitting radiotherapy (RT) in early responders, thereby decreasing long-term toxicities. However, its application in resource-limited countries remains challenging. This study aims to evaluate patient outcomes using this protocol and the feasibility of omitting RT for early responders. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 87 previously untreated pediatric HL patients at our Center from 2012 to 2022, following the Euronet-PHL-C1 protocol. RT was omitted for patients with a

Acute purulent pericarditis secondary to community-acquired streptococcus pneumonia: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Pericarditis is the inflammation of the pericardial sac due to a variety of stimuli that ultimately trigger a stereotyped immune response. This condition accounts for up to 5% of emergency department visits for nonischemic chest pain in Western Europe and North America. The most common symptoms of clinical presentation are chest pain and shortness of breath with associated unique electrocardiographic changes. Acute pericarditis is generally self-limited. However, some cases may be complicated by either tamponade or a large pericardial effusion, which carries a significant risk of r

Diagnosis and management of splenic tuberculosis: a case report and literature review.

Splenic tuberculosis is a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, that is often caused by hematogenous dissemination. A 53-year-old female presented with multiple enlarged lymph nodes and a splenic mass identified during a routine health check. Imaging revealed widespread lymphadenopathy and multiple splenic nodules, raising suspicion for lymphoma. The laboratory findings showed an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and mild liver function abnormalities, with no significant tumor markers or inflammatory indicators. Histopathology of lymph node and splenic biopsies revealed granulomas wi

Dual-phase study of CD4+CXCR4+ T cells in Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia: clinical correlations in children and therapeutic exploration with tofacitinib in mice.

OBJECTIVE: This study had two primary objectives. First, we aimed to investigate whether differential expression of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 on CD4+ T lymphocytes could serve as a distinguishing immunological feature between pediatric patients with severe Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (SMPP) and those with on- Non-severe MPP. Second, we sought to explore the therapeutic potential of the JAK inhibitor Tofacitinib in MPP by examining its effects on CXCR4 pathway modulation, using both clinical observations and experimental validation through an established animal model of MPP. METHODS: We

IgG4-related arthritis revealed by synovial biopsy: a case-based review.

INTRODUCTION: IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic autoimmune condition characterized by fibroinflammatory lesions, potentially occurring at any anatomical site. Typical histopathological features include dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltrates rich in IgG4 + plasma cells, storiform-pattern fibrosis, and obliterative phlebitis. Diagnosing IgG4-RD remains challenging due to its heterogeneous features. Here, we report a rare case of IgG4-RD diagnosed by a synovial biopsy of the wrist. CASE REPORT: An 80-year-old man presented with relapsing right wrist arthritis. Laboratory tests showed ele

Factors associated with pericardial effusion development and persistence in systemic sclerosis: a single-centre retrospective analysis.

Heart involvement in Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) remains among the leading causes of disease-related deaths. SSc has been associated with an increased risk of pericardial effusion (PerEff). The aim of our study was to examine the prevalence and identify possible factors associated with ever and persistent SSc-PerEff. For this retrospective study, consecutive patients with a diagnosis of SSc, that visited our Outpatient Unit until June 2024, were recruited. Demographic data, disease manifestations, serological profile, and internal organ involvement were collected. Initially, participants with at

PIGMENTED VILLONODULAR SYNOVITIS IN THE ANKLE OF A PEDIATRIC PATIENT: A CASE REPORT.

BACKGROUND: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS), also known as diffuse tenosynovial giant cell tumor, is a rare, benign but aggressive synovial proliferative disorder. It most commonly affects the knee; involvement of the foot and ankle is uncommon (incidence ~1.8 per million), and pediatric cases are especially rare. This rarity often leads to delayed diagnosis, as early symptoms can mimic benign causes (e.g. sprains or "growing pains") and initial radiographs may be unremarkable. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 12-year-old girl with a four-year history of chronic ankle pain and

Evaluation of Inflammatory Scores as Diagnostic Markers for Polymyalgia Rheumatica.

OBJECTIVE: Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease affecting older adults, with symptoms often overlapping with those of other conditions, thus making its diagnosis challenging. The present study evaluated the utility of laboratory-based inflammatory scores, including the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR), albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR), and prognostic nutritional index (PNI), as diagnostic tools for PMR and explored their association with clinical manifestations. METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed the
