Circulating levels of lactate dehydrogenase, glutamate-oxaloacetate, glutamate-pyruvate transaminase, and creatine phosphokinase, as well as its isoenzymes, were measured to investigate the possibility of myocardial damage during acceleration to high +Gz. Serum samples were analyzed in 12 human volunteers before, 6 h after, and 24 h after several bouts of accleration to 6, 8, 9, and 10 G. No substantial elevations of enzyme activities were observed. Adrenal regeneration hypertension (ARH) was induced in virgin and breeder, spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) and Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Patients on a methadone-maintenance program had high serum concentrations of thyroxine-binding globulin. This resulted in elevated serum thyroxine and triiodothyronine levels and low triiodothyronine uptake values. Their free thyroxine index was normal, as was serum thyroxine and triiodothyronine when related to thyroxine-binding globulin concentration. To clarify the value of isoenzymes in the detection of acute myocardial injury (AMI) associated with coronary artery bypass grafting, 350 consecutive patients (804 grafts) were evaluated with serial electrocardiograms (ECG) and serum levels of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), total creatinine phosphokinase (CPK), and lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) on Days 0, 1,2,3,4,5, and 7. The clinical records of 180 pediatric patients who received Intralipid via peripheral veins at a single institution (1964-1977) were retrospectively analyzed, with particular reference to the complications of this form of therapy. Intralipid was used in a dose range of 2--4 g/kg/day in order to supply 40% of the daily calorie requirements.
