BACKGROUND: Whole blood interferon-gamma assay QuantiFERON-TB2G (QFT-2G), which is a new specific method for diagnosing tuberculosis (TB), has been developed and used in the clinical field. The aim of the present study was to assess the usefulness of QFT-2G as an indicator, both for diagnosing childhood TB and for assessing therapeutic effectiveness.

Based on a retrospective study the authors analyzed the diagnostic criteria used in pediatric department in Yopougon CHU (teaching hospital), from January 1996 to December 2002. Fifty children, aged of 1 month to 15 years, have been studied. The tuberculosis contact was found in 18%. The diagnosis of tuberculosis was accurate in 32% and it was based on presumptive arguments in 68%. DESIGN: In the spring of 1999, 864 Kosovars were directly airborne from refugee camps in Macedonia to a refugee camp in Kristiansand, Norway; 800 were examined according to official Norwegian TB screening procedures with X-ray (if more than 15 years of age) and tuberculin test shortly after arrival.

We present the clinical characteristics of pregnancy histories and subsequent pregnancy outcomes of 13 women who tested positive for anticardiolipin beta2-glycoprotein I antibody (aCLbeta2GPI).
