This report evaluates the effect of prior administration of several clinically used Sn(II)-containing agents on in vivo distribution of 99mTc. Abnormal binding of 99mTc to red blood cells can occur after administration of pertechnetate to patients who have previously received tin-containing agents. Increased blood levels of tin from other causes may have similar effects.

In 55 patients irradiated for malignant lymphoma the complaints were recorded as well as ECG, blood pressure, exercise test and heart volume before, during and one and 6 months following treatment. ECG abnormalities and fall in blood pressure occurred during treatment. Reduced physical working capacity was found one month after treatment. After 6 months all parameters had returned to pretreatment levels. Attention should be paid to the considerable reduction in blood pressure that does occur in some cases during treatment.

Elevation of transcobalamin I and serum vitamin B12 levels has usually been associated with increased granulocytic proliferation, such as occurs in chronic myelogenous leukemia. Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were used to determine the effects of the addition of 200 ppm of Cd (as CdCl2) to the diet factorially with two levels of dietary Ca (0.07% and 0.96%) on reproductive performance, concentrations of Cd, Cu, Fe, Zn, Ca and Mg in dam liver and kidney and in newborn progeny. Electrophysiological methods revealed subclinical neuropathy in 26 workers, exposed from 1 to 17 years to lead and whose blood lead (PbB) values had never exceeded 70mu/100ml, as ascertained by checking the monitor reports of the factory and by careful exposure history. Male adult gerbils were irradiated with a whole-body dose of 600 R with gamma-rays. The animals were studied for their hematological response on days, 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, and 28 post irradiation. Twenty-eight consecutive patients of an average age of 63 years with intermittent claudication secondary to underlying peripheral arterial disease were studied for evidence of metabolic or other cardiovascular abnormalities and the results obtained were compared with those of 28 matched control subjects free of vascular disease. The prevention of iron deficiency requires attention to the toal feeding regimen as well as to its iron content. The use of fresh cow's milk in early infancy, a common practice, is associated with the development of measurable degrees of iron deficiency. In many instances excessive amounts of milk produce severe iron deficiency anemia during the second year of life in infants of greater than average birth weight.
