Retroperitoneal Ectopic Bronchogenic Cyst Mimicking an Adrenal Mass: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND Bronchogenic cysts (BCs) are rare congenital anomalies that are extremely uncommon in the retroperitoneum; in this uncommon anatomical location, they are frequently misdiagnosed radiologically as solid adrenal or pancreatic tumors. This report aims to enhance clinical awareness and diagnostic vigilance regarding ectopic retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts (ERBCs) that closely mimic other common endocrine or urological entities. CASE REPORT We report a case of a middle-aged man presenting with recurrent right flank pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) demonstrated multiple right r

Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor: a study of CT, MRI, PET/CT multimodal imaging features and their correlations with pathology.

PURPOSE: Exploring the computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET)/CT Multimodal Imaging Characteristics of Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT) to enhance the diagnostic proficiency of this condition. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on clinical data and multimodal imaging manifestations (CT, MRI, FDG-PET/CT) of eight cases of DSRCT. These findings were systematically compared with pathological results to succinctly summarize imaging features and elucidate their associations with both clinical

A retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst clinically mimicking an adrenal mass: three case reports and a literature review.

Bronchogenic cysts are a congenital primitive foregut-derived developmental malformation, generally occurring in the posterior mediastinum. Their development in the retroperitoneum is extremely rare. Imaging techniques, such as multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), are typically effective in the detection of these lesions. Here, we describe three cases of a retroperitoneal cyst presenting as a para-adrenal mass. Only one boy presented with abdominal pain, and the other two showed no clinical symptoms. Endocrinological evaluation of all three cases was performed, and no adrenal hormone secr

Imaging appearance of fibrosing diseases of the retroperitoneum: can a definitive diagnosis be made?

PURPOSE: To assess the frequency with which previously reported characteristic findings of retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) (a circumferential or almost circumferential peri-aortic mass centered at L4, which does not displace the abdominal aorta or proximal common iliac arteries) are present in patients with RPF, in patients with other fibrosing diseases, and in cancer patients referred to a subspecialty clinic with a suspected diagnosis of RPF, in order to determine whether diagnostic percutaneous biopsy can be avoided in some patients. METHODS: This HIPAA-compliant Institutional Review Board-

The American College of Radiology Incidental Findings Committee Recommendations for Management of Incidental Lymph Nodes: A Single-Center Evaluation.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To assess the American College of Radiology Incidental Findings Committee's (ACR-IFC) recommendations for defining and following up abnormal incidental abdominopelvic lymph nodes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 59 lymph nodes satisfying ACR-IFC criteria as incidental (no malignancy or lymphoproliferative disorder) and with sufficient follow-up to classify as benign (biopsy, decreased size, ≥12-month stability) or malignant (biopsy, detection of primary malignancy combined with either fluorodeoxyglucose hyperactivity or increase in size of the node) were included.

Castleman's disease in the retroperitoneal space mimicking a paraspinal schwannoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Castleman's disease is a rare disease characterized by lymph node hyperplasia. Its occurrence in the retroperitoneal space has rarely been reported, making its preoperative diagnosis difficult. Here, we report a case of retroperitoneal Castleman's disease, which radiologically resembled paraspinal schwannoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old Japanese man with epigastric discomfort underwent abdominal ultrasonic examination revealing a solid mass next to the right kidney. Computed tomography demonstrated a well-circumscribed mass with central calcification in the right psoas muscle

A retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst: a rare cause of a mass in the adrenal region.

This report documents a bronchogenic cyst presenting as an adrenal tumour in a 51 year old man with persistent epigastric pain. The cyst is regarded as a developmental abnormality of the primitive foregut, which typically occurs in the chest. Subdiaphragmatic, and retroperitoneal locations in particular, are unusual. The differential diagnosis of a bronchogenic cyst in the retroperitoneum includes cystic teratoma, bronchopulmonary sequestration, cysts of urothelial and mullerian origin, and other foregut cysts.

Sites of tuberculous involvement in patients with AIDS. Autopsy findings and evaluation of gallium imaging.

The purpose of this study was to review autopsy and gallium scan findings in two different acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) patient populations who had a confirmed diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) to identify organs involved and accuracy of clinical diagnosis. The first group was comprised of 29 autopsies between January 1982 and December 1994, including only 18 patients who were diagnosed before death. Organs most commonly involved were the lymph nodes (59%), lungs (56%), spleen (53%), liver (45%), and kidneys (37%). Other opportunistic infections were present in 18 (59%) of autopsies

Computed tomography evaluation of local and extraintestinal complications of Crohn's disease.

Complications of Crohn's disease were demonstrated by computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis in 7 patients. Four patients had developed abscesses, 2 located in the psoas region and 2 involving the retroperitoneum or the liver. Other abnormalities documented on CT included inflammatory masses, fistulae, carcinoma, mesenteric thickening, and extraintestinal complications such as gallstones, renal calculi, and sacroileitis. Computed tomography was found to be useful in the detection and follow-up of abdominal complications of Crohn's disease.
