Single ventricle heart disease (SVHD) adolescents show brain tissue injury in sites that mediate autonomic, mood, and cognition functions deficient in the condition, which may result from impaired neural interactions at resting state. However, it is unclear whether SVHD subjects have aberrant neural activities in those areas that can be examined with regional homogeneity (ReHo) measures, assessing local neural synchronization. We aimed to examine regional brain neural activity changes in SVHD compared to healthy controls using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Resting fMRI data wer

Maternal preeclampsia (PE) contributes to neurodevelopmental disorders. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. We investigated the potential biological regulatory mechanisms by establishing an animal model and primary cell culture. Data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development human study revealed that the striatum mediates maternal PE and offspring behavioral disorders. In a rat PE model, offspring exhibited abnormal behaviors and reduced striatal vascular density, with disrupted blood-brain barrier (BBB) and swollen astrocytes. Primary astrocytes and brain microv

BACKGROUND: Global developmental delay is a common pediatric condition that affects multiple developmental domains. Emerging evidence suggests that iron deposition in the deep gray matter nuclei may play a critical role in neurodevelopmental processes. However, brain iron deposition in children with global developmental delay remains insufficiently characterized.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate abnormal brain iron deposition patterns on neuroimaging in children with global developmental delay, with the goal of facilitating early detection, timely diagnosis, and targeted interventio

BACKGROUND: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a leading cause of vascular cognitive impairment and dementia, yet the neural structural and functional pattern of brain alterations across its clinical spectrum remains unclear. This study aimed to identify convergent and stage-specific structural and functional brain abnormalities in CSVD using a multimodal meta-analysis.
METHODS: Four electronic databases were searched including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library up to April 2025. Studies reporting whole-brain structural or functional differences comparing CSVD with

The widespread use of antibiotics has resulted in their frequent occurrence in marine environments, yet their ecological risks remain poorly understood. Enrofloxacin (ENR) is one of the most frequently detected antibiotics in aquatic ecosystems. However, its toxicological mechanisms in marine fish remain unclear. Here, multiomics, Vibrio parahemolyticus infection, short chain fatty acid supplementation and germ-free fish models were integrated to investigate ENR induced neurotoxicity and the role of gut microbiota. The results showed that ENR exposure impaired intestinal function in marine med

INTRODUCTION: Abnormal brain development and cognitive function are present in adolescence and early adulthood of schizophrenia (SZ). However, it is still unclear whether these developmental abnormalities and cognitive deficits occur in adolescence and early adulthood in individuals at genetic high risk (GHR). This study aims to examine brain age gap differences during adolescence and early adulthood in individuals with SZ, GHR, and healthy control (HC), as well as their associations with cognitive function.
METHODS: This study recruited a total of 240 subjects aged between 12 and 25, compris

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder (BD) manifests both genetic predispositions and brain imaging abnormalities. Genetic analyses provide a powerful approach to disentangling the associations between BD and brain imaging-derived phenotype (IDP). However, in East Asian (EAS) populations, the genetic basis of these neuroimaging changes and their clinical relevance remains underexplored due to limited integrative evidence.
METHODS: We investigated the genetic architecture and clinical relevance of BD and brain IDPs in East Asian populations using individual-level data from the Chinese Bipolar Disorder

BACKGROUND: Although numerous neuroimaging studies have reported structural and functional abnormalities in migraine, results have remained heterogeneous. Emerging evidence suggests that neuropsychiatric symptoms may arise from dysfunction within distributed brain networks rather than isolated brain regions; however, migraine-related network abnormalities remain insufficiently explored.
METHODS: We integrated findings from 51 neuroimaging publications and extracted reported locations showing structural and functional abnormalities associated with migraine. Using a functional connectivity netw

Therapeutic efficacy of temozolomide (TMZ) remains limited, and GBM patients generally experience poor outcomes due to the presence of multiple mechanisms of TMZ resistance. Previously, we developed two novel compounds: EPIC-1027, which targets HOTAIR/PRC2 complex, and EPIC-1042, which disrupts interaction between PTRF and CAV1. In this study, we aim to establish a novel combinatorial strategy for GBM by targeting mitochondrial function. Proteomics was employed to evaluate global protein alterations induced by EPIC-1027 and EPIC-1042. Super-resolution microscopy and transmission electron micro

Under the combined pressures of global climate change and agrochemical pollution, the interactive risk of high temperature and pesticide exposure remains unclear. This 30-day chronic toxicity study systematically elucidated how high temperature exacerbates glufosinate-ammonium (GLA)-induced neurobehavioral toxicity in juvenile Eriocheir sinensis. The results showed that GLA exposure induced significant neurobehavioral abnormalities, including appendage tremors and hyperactivity, with temperature exerting non-monotonic modulation: moderate warming (26 °C) aggravated excitatory behaviors, while

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a chronic complication resulting from diabetes that leads to pain and sensory abnormalities, significantly impacting the quality of life for affected patients. This study aims to investigate the role of glutamatergic neurons in the paraventricular thalamus (PVT) and the prelimbic cortex (PrL) in diabetes-induced nociceptive hypersensitivity. We established a diabetic mouse model through a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) and employed fiber photometry, optogenetics, and chemogenetics to examine the responses of glutamatergic neuron

Obesity and its associated insulin resistance are important risk factors for cognitive impairment. In this study, a 10-week C57BL/6 mouse model was established to investigate the effects of dietary quercetin supplementation at 0.05% (w/w) on HFFD-induced obesity-related cognitive impairment. The results showed that quercetin significantly reduced HFFD-induced body weight gain (P < 0.05) and improved serum lipid abnormalities and cognitive performance. Integrated multi-omics analysis further revealed that quercetin reshaped the gut microbiota composition, notably increasing Akkermansia muciniph

BACKGROUND: Immune-inflammatory dysregulation and cortical structural vulnerability have been increasingly implicated in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, how they interact with each other, and whether immune heterogeneity in MDD is systematically organized by structural networks, remain unclear.
METHODS: Genome-wide association studies data of MDD, gray matter volume (GMV) phenotypes, and 19 immune-related traits were utilized to assess causal relationships. A prospective cohort comprising 122 patients with MDD and 66 healthy controls underwent structural magnetic resonance imaging a

Adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) face serious challenges to their mental and physical health. The development of this condition is influenced by genetic, environmental, and brain development factors. In this study, we used the Morphometric Inverse Divergence Gradient Network (MIND-Gd) for the first time to explore brain structural network abnormalities and their transcriptional mechanisms in adolescents with MDD and NSSI. A total of 241 adolescents with MDD participated in this study. Among them, 134 had NSSI, while 107 did not. Using high-re

CONTEXT: Patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) have lifelong imbalances in adrenal hormones that may result in changes in structure and function of the brain that can impair cognitive performance. The hippocampus might be especially sensitive to cortisol and androgen disturbances but has not been systematically investigated in this patient group.
OBJECTIVE: In this study, we assessed hippocampal subfield volumes, mean diffusivity, and resting-state functional connectivity along with memory performance in patients with CAH and healthy controls using structural magnetic resonance i

BACKGROUND: The 5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 6 (HTR6) is a G protein-coupled receptor implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and epilepsy. Our previous studies identified a somatic HTR6 mutation in brain surgical specimens from patients with focal cortical dysplasia type II, suggesting its potential involvement in disease pathogenesis.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the functional role of the htr6 in zebrafish, focusing on its impact on neurodevelopment and seizure susceptibility.
METHODS: A F0 mosaic htr6 crispant zebrafish model was generated using CRISPR/Cas9 and validated by sequencing an

Pain and psychological disorders are two common symptom clusters in patients with herpes zoster-related pain (HZ-RP). We utilized functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate functional characteristics of the brain in HZ-RP patients with different levels of anxiety. Twenty-five HZ-RP patients with high anxiety (HZ-RP with HA) and 26 HZ-RP patients with low anxiety (HZ-RP with LA) were enrolled. Fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo) and functional connectivity (FC) based on the brain regions with significant differences and defaul

PURPOSE: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers are increasingly used to support Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis: Alzheimer's Disease continuum (ADc) is defined by abnormal amyloid-beta (Aβ), while Suspected Non-AD Pathophysiology (SNAP) refers to normal Aβ with elevated tau. Given the differential properties along the hippocampal longitudinal axis, this study aimed to evaluate anterior-posterior subregional hippocampal volume differences among ADc, SNAP, and biomarker-negative participants, and their associations with CSF biomarkers and clinical presentation.
METHODS: Data from 1242 partici
