Clinical Study on Four- versus Two-Hour Hemoadsorption Combined with Hemodialysis for Enhanced Clearance of Protein-Bound Uremic Toxins in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients.

INTRODUCTION: The optimal duration of hemoadsorption durations combined with hemodialysis (HAHD) for maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients remains unclear. METHODS: In this randomized controlled trial, we randomized 100 MHD patients to receive either 2-h HAHD group (HD + 2-h HP, n = 50) or 4-h HAHD group (HD + 4-h HP, n = 50) to compare treatment safety and efficacy profiles, with an additional 8 patients enrolled for hemoadsorber saturation assessment. This study received ethical approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB No. [2024] No. 14). RESULTS: Results showed that both treatm

Human Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Macrophages Modify Development of Human Kidney Organoids: A Preliminary Study.

UNLABELLED: <p>Introduction: Human foetal kidneys contain macrophages, innate immune cells postulated to enhance their development. Macrophages have also been implicated in the pathobiology of human kidney malformations and Wilms tumour. Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived kidney organoids contain nephrons but lack macrophages. METHODS: We hypothesised that combining hPSC-derived macrophages with hPSC-derived kidney precursors would modify nephrogenesis. Macrophages were added in numbers of 1%, 5%, or 20% relative to a constant number of nephrogenic cells. RESULTS: As assessed by CD68

Effects of Deltamethrin and Endosulfan on the Hepatic Markers and Neurobehavioural Alterations in Japanese Quail (Coturnix japonica).

BACKGROUND: Deltamethrin (DLM), a synthetic pyrethroid, and endosulfan, an organochlorine pesticide, frequently co-occur in agricultural environments, yet their combined effects on hepatic function and behaviour in non-target avian species remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVES: This study examined the toxic effects of combined DLM and endosulfan exposure on hepatic markers, lipid profile and neurobehaviour in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). METHODS: Twelve adult quails were divided into three groups receiving: (1) control, (2) low-dose (0.1 mg/kg DLM + 0.15 mg/kg endosulfan) or (3) high-d

HucMSC-EVs attenuate renal fibrosis via miR-874-3p-mediated inhibition of cGAS-STING signaling.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by progressive renal interstitial fibrosis, which is closely associated with tubular epithelial cell injury, mitochondrial dysfunction, and aberrant inflammatory signaling. Our previous studies demonstrated that extracellular vesicles derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HucMSC-EVs) effectively alleviate renal fibrosis in a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model. Based on these findings, the present study further investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-fibrotic effects of HucMSC-EVs. Using a cisplatin-ind

Hyponatremic-Hypertensive Syndrome as a Rare Manifestation of Renovascular Hypertension: A Case Series.

BACKGROUND Hyponatremic-hypertensive syndrome is a rare but distinctive manifestation of renal ischemia caused by unilateral renal artery stenosis. It is characterized by severe arterial hypertension accompanied by hyponatremia, hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, and polyuria, resulting from complex interactions between the ischemic kidney and the contralateral functioning kidney. Owing to its rarity and potentially life-threatening course, early recognition and appropriate management are crucial. The purpose of this report is to highlight the clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, and t

Punicalagin Alleviates Diabetic Kidney Injury: Potential Involvement of SESN2-Related Mitophagy and Changes in Pyroptosis-/Ferroptosis-Related Indicators.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a progressive nephropathy associated with excessive pyroptosis and ferroptosis. Impaired renal mitophagy has been implicated in inflammation and lipid peroxidation in DKD; however, it remains unclear whether and how it modulates pyroptosis and ferroptosis. Punicalagin (PU), a natural polyphenol with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, has been shown to improve DKD, yet its underlying mechanism requires further elucidation. This study aimed to investigate whether PU alleviates pyroptosis- and ferroptosis-related indicators

The effect of tolvaptan on total kidney volume and inflammatory markers in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is characterized by progressive cyst growth, kidney enlargement, and decline in renal function. Increasing evidence suggests that inflammatory processes may contribute to disease progression. This study aimed to evaluate the association between tolvaptan use, systemic inflammatory markers, and total kidney volume (TKV) progression in patients with ADPKD. METHODS: This retrospective study included 67 patients with ADPKD, including 40 receiving tolvaptan and 27 untreated controls. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-

Speckle Tracking Analysis of the Left and Right Heart in Type 1 Diabetes Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease Awaiting Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney Transplantation.

Background/Objectives: Diabetic cardiomyopathy is an under-recognized complication of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), often co-existing with diabetic nephropathy. This study investigates whether patients with T1DM and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (SPKT) show echocardiographic signs of cardiomyopathy prior to surgery and explores whether cardiac changes are more attributable to diabetes itself or to chronic kidney disease. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed preoperative echocardiographic data of 16 SPKT patients with T1DM and ESRD, us

Multi-omics analysis explores the potential mechanisms of Huangtcia renifolia ethanolic extract against osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats.

BACKGROUND: Huangtcia renifolia (L.) H. Ohashi & K. Ohashi, a traditional folk medicine, has been used for centuries by the Dai people in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China. Traditionally, it has been used to clear kidney heat, promote diuresis, and treat conditions, including kidney deficiency, sexual dysfunction, hepatitis, and osteoporosis. Recent pharmacological investigations indicate that Huangtcia renifolia ethanol extract (DRS) exerts bone-protective effects, partially via modulation of OPG/RANKL/RANK and BMP-2/Smad signaling pathways. This study used an integrated multi-omics strat
