A retrospective cohort study was carried out aiming to evaluate the survival of 655 women with breast cancer, seen in the Single Health System, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil. For the analysis of survival, the method of Kaplan-Meier and Cox model was applied. The survival according to the staging of women was significantly different in accordance with the results of the test of Log-rank Test. OBJECTIVE: To describe the characteristics of sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) and compare its incidence with official national mortality statistics for unascertained deaths.
DESIGN AND SETTING: Sudden unexplained deaths were prospectively surveyed through 117 coroners' jurisdictions in England. Consecutive cases meeting the following criteria were included: white Caucasian, aged 4-64 years, no history of cardiac disease, last seen alive within 12 h of death, normal coroner's autopsy, cardiac pathologist's confirmation of a normal heart and negative toxicology.

Root demographic processes (birth and death) were measured using minirhizotrons in the soil warming experiments at the summit of Great Dun Fell, United Kingdom (845 m). The loss of human life resulting from environmental contaminants generally does not occur contemporaneously with the exposure to those contaminants. Some environmental problems produce harms with a latency period whereas others affect future generations. One of the most vexing questions raised by the cost-benefit analysis of environmental regulation is whether discounting, to reflect the passage of time between the exposure and the harm, is appropriate in these two scenarios. The valuations of human life used in regulatory analyses are from threats of instantaneous death in workplace settings.

Unless thrombolytic or surgical therapy is rapidly available, massive pulmonary embolism in both pulmonary arteries invariably results in instantaneous death. A patient is presented with congenital atrial septal defect and right ventricular thrombus who developed extensive bilateral pulmonary embolism with an apparently prolonged survival.
