Associations between sarcopenia, lower urinary tract symptoms, and urinary incontinence-related anxiety in community-dwelling older women: a cross-sectional study.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the associations among sarcopenia, lower urinary tract symptoms, and anxiety in urinary incontinence in community-dwelling older women. METHODS: We analyzed data from 194 older women (mean age: 74.7 ± 5.8 years) who participated in a community cohort study. Sarcopenia was defined according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria. Lower urinary tract symptoms were classified into two groups based on the presence or absence of urinary incontinence, increased daytime frequency, and nocturia. Anxiety was classified into two groups based on the

Beyond seropositivity: quantitative parietal cell antibody titers predict gastric intestinal metaplasia in a high helicobacter pylori prevalence setting.

PURPOSE: Anti-gastric parietal cell antibody (APA) positivity is a recognized serological biomarker for autoimmune gastritis, but whether quantitative APA titer levels correlate with the severity of gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) in high Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) prevalence settings remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between quantitative APA titer dilutions and histopathological GIM in a large endoscopic cohort. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, medical records of adult patients who underwent APA testing at a tertiary referral center between No

A Composite Internal Stabilization Strategy associated with Absence of Postoperative Hematoma After Facelift: A 561-Patient Comparative Series.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative hematoma remains the most common complication following rhytidoplasty, with reported incidences ranging from 0.5% to 8%. Various preventive strategies have been proposed, including blood pressure control, drains, progressive tension sutures and quilting techniques, which have been widely adopted to reduce dead space and improve flap adherence. The authors developed an internal hemostatic network (IHN), combining established suturing principles into a composite technique designed to eliminate dead space and stabilize the facial flap. METHODS: A retrospective comparati

Phenotype-based risk stratification for deep vein thrombosis in Behçet's disease: a global 10-year longitudinal study.

OBJECTIVES: Vascular involvement, particularly deep vein thrombosis (DVT), is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Behçet's disease (BD). This study aimed to identify independent risk factors for DVT and establish a robust framework for phenotype-based risk stratification. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX global health research network and identified 19,739 patients with BD. Three independent propensity score-matched cohorts were established to evaluate the impact of intestinal involvement, thrombophlebitis, and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). A mul

Identifying a high-risk CKM syndrome phenotype: association of albuminuria with subclinical hemodynamic alterations via portable noninvasive cardiometer.

OBJECT: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is closely linked to heart failure. METHODS: This prospective study of 274 asymptomatic patients with T2DM without clinical heart failure or coronary artery disease used portable noninvasive cardiometry to assess hemodynamic parameters. RESULTS: Patients with albuminuria (n=119) showed significantly lower stroke volume and index of contractility (ICON 29.44 ± 9.48 vs 34.78 ± 10.18, p<0.0001), and higher systemic vascular resistance compared with those without albuminuria (n=155). Albuminuria remained independently associated with reduced ICON after mul

Association of Neoadjuvant Versus Adjuvant Chemotherapy on Pre-Pectoral Tissue Expander Based Reconstruction Outcomes Following Mastectomy.

BACKGROUND: Prepectoral implant-based reconstruction has reemerged as a preferred technique for breast reconstruction after mastectomy, but introduces risks of prothesis infection. With increasing reliance on neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), which can modulate the immune system and induce leukopenia, it is unclear how NACT impacts surgical outcomes in prepectoral reconstruction patients. This retrospective review aims to investigate the impact of NACT and leukopenia on complication rates in patients undergoing immediate pre-pectoral TE-based breast reconstruction compared to adjuvant chemother

A stochastic fractional model for computer virus propagation with memory effects and exponential delay.

A computer virus is a type of malware that, upon execution, can replicate itself by modifying other computer programs and inserting its code into them. This study develops a stochastic fractional-order delay differential equation model (SFDDE) to describe computer-virus dynamics by partitioning the system into uninfected S(t), latent infected L(t), and actively seizing V(t) computer populations. The model establishes the well-posedness of solutions, including existence, uniqueness, positivity, and boundedness, and identifies two equilibria: the computer-virus-free equilibrium (CV-FE) and the c

Safety and complications of upper pole puncture in supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

OBJECTIVE: Supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) has gained attention as a viable alternative to the traditional/historical prone approach for the treatment of large renal stones. However, concerns remain regarding the safety and feasibility of upper calyx punctures in the supine position, particularly for upper-pole access. This multicenter, retrospective cohort study evaluated the safety and stone-free rates of upper-pole punctures in supine PCNL, comparing outcomes with middle and lower calyx punctures and with literature on prone PCNL. METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed supin

Local RAGE Inhibition Attenuates Early Diabetic Retinal Pathology in Streptozotocin-Induced Rats.

Introduction Diabetic retinopathy, which occurs during extended periods of chronic hyperglycemia, is one of the main causes of vision loss. The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) plays a central role in inflammatory and angiogenic signaling, both of which contribute to the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy, but its therapeutic targeting in ocular disease has been insufficiently explored. Methods We evaluated topical RAGE229, a small-molecule RAGE inhibitor, and an intravitreally administered anti-RAGE antibody in a streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model. At day 84, treat

Severe growth retardation in Dent disease: a case report of a novel OCRL variant.

INTRODUCTION: Dent disease type 2 (DD-2) is a rare X-linked recessive renal tubulopathy caused by mutations in the OCRL gene. Clinically it is characterised by low molecular weight proteinuria (LMWP), hypercalciuria, and nephrocalcinosis. The phenotypic spectrum of DD-2 is expanding with the identification of new pathogenic variants. CASE REPORT: A 12-year-old male presenting with marked short stature and poor weight gain was found to have LMWP, haematuria, hypercalciuria, and bilateral nephrocalcinosis on initial clinical evaluation. Renal function was normal. There was no relevant family hi

Integrated Analysis of the aKlotho-FGF23-FGFR Genetic Axis Reveals Determinants of Cardiovascular Risk in Chronic Kidney Disease.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a markedly increased cardiovascular (CV) risk. The disruption of the αKlotho-Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 (FGF23)-FGF receptors (FGFR) axis has been implicated in chronic diseases and CV complications. We aimed to evaluate the impact of genetic variability across this pathway on renal function and CV outcomes in CKD patients. METHODS: A total of 829 patients with CKD stages 1-5D were genotyped for 54 tag-SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and functional variants in KL, FGF23, FGFR1, and FGFR4. Associations with renal function, p

Lymphedema therapy and wound healing: a retrospective analysis of pretreatment and posttreatment wound volume.

BACKGROUND: Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) frequently exhibit prolonged healing times, particularly in the presence of lower extremity lymphedema. One approach to managing VLU is to combine traditional wound care with lymphedema therapy (LT). Despite recognition of compression as an effective agent for management of chronic wounds, use of lymphedema services remains insufficient among health care providers. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of LT for tissue repair and examine the effect of various factors on wound healing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Electronic medical records of patients wit
