A new method of reconstruction of the nasal ala is described using a composite free flap taken from the anterior part of the pinna, based upon the superficial temporal vessels. Forty cadaver dissections have been performed to assess variations in vascular anatomy and a direct branch of the superficial temporal artery was found in 90% of subjects. The flap has been used successfully in two cases.

By definition de-epithelization is a technique by which a graft or a flap is thinned out of the split thickness or full thickness skin layer. The underlying fat tissue is thus covered more or less by corium only. The indications for this procedure are as follows: 1. A subcutaneous defect. 2. Resurfacing defects in a cavity (for example in the pharynx) 3. Subcutaneous implantation of a flap pedicle. The advantages of de-epithelization are: 1. Widening the scope of surgical technique. 2. In many cases second surgery can be avoided. 3. The way from the donor to the recipient site is shorter. 4. A

Hearing loss and vertigo experienced as a result of environmental pressure change has been the subject of many superficial inquiries. The mechanism of these conditions remains obscure. In human volunteers and a rhesus monkey, the effects of intratympanic as well as ear canal pressure changes on the endolymphatic system were measured using electronystagmography (ENG). For the monkey histological evaluation of the pressure effects on auditory structures was performed. We were unable to cause any ENG effects on the monkey neither did we produce intracochlear pathology. The data obtained in humans

Recently surgical implantation of devices to stimulate the auditory nerve in man makes it apparent that sensory and neural pathologies of deafness need to be differentiated from each other. In this paper 10 exemplary cases are presented. In addition, an attempt is made to compile the information now available about sensory and neural pathologies in the various diseases that cause deafness. Superficially, it would appear that most such entities are sensory in nature and thus theoretically might be amenable to auditory nerve stimulation. However, loss of supporting cells seems to be associated w
