BACKGROUND: Surgical repair of septal perforations has been historically cumbersome. Recently described techniques utilizing interposition grafting with polydioxanone (PDS) plates wrapped in a temporoparietal fascia (TPF) graft have reported successful closure in 90% to 100% of cases. Our objective is to expand the investigation into the use of interposition grafts of polydioxanone plates combined with a temporoparietal fascia graft for nasal septal perforation repair.

This case report aims to describe the occurrence of negative impacts of wearing nose-flap devices on beef calves subjected to the two-stage weaning method. Forty-one calves, twenty-one pure Nellore and twenty F1 Angus-Nellore, were weaned on average at 236 days of age. Commercial nose-flap devices were fitted in the nostrils of the calves (d0) to prevent suckling and removed five days later (d5). Tracheostomy is a common surgical procedure for securing a patent airway. Anatomical variations of major vessels overlying the trachea may pose significant bleeding risk during the procedure. Hence, thorough preoperative assessment of the neck and surgeon's intraoperative vigilance are essential. Open tracheostomy is a safer option than percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy. Extra caution with stoma wound care and change of tracheostomy tube are necessary postoperatively if any major vessel is detected in close proximity with the tracheal stoma.
