AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of 0.5% Bupivacaine and 4% Articaine when administered via inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) in patients undergoing surgical management of mandibular fractures.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: The sample consisted of 40 participants, who required management of mandibular fractures.
RESULTS: Patients receiving Bupivacaine required rescue analgesia significantly later (10.40 h) compared to those receiving Articaine (7.30 h), with a mean difference of 3.10 h (P < 0.001). This 42% delay in rescue analgesic requirement represents a clinically meaningful improvement in postop

BACKGROUND: The Erich arch bar has been a traditional method for maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) in the closed management of mandibular fractures, but it presents significant disadvantages, including prolonged placement time, increased risk of operator injury, and compromised oral hygiene. To address these challenges, alternative methods such as IMF screws and hybrid arch bars have been introduced.
PURPOSE: This study aimed to compare the efficacy, advantages, disadvantages, and potential complications of three MMF techniques, IMF screws, hybrid arch bars, and Erich arch bars in the manageme

The mandible is the largest and strongest bone of the facial skeleton. The mandible has body occurring in 2 halves. Both halves unite together in the midline forming symphysis menti. The inner surface of the body of the mandible is also known as lingual surface. The literature search revealed presence of lingual foramen on the lingual surface of the mandible. The lingual foramen is reported to be present above, below, or lateral to genial tubercles of the mandible. The lingual foramen transmits neurovascular bundle, which may be injured during surgery involving lingual surface of the mandible,

BACKGROUND: Although the relationship between umbilical cord clamping time and various parameters such as hemoglobin (Hb) levels, iron deficiency, and risk of neonatal jaundice has previously been studied, to the best of our knowleadge there have been no studies investigating the relationship between cord clamping time and the risk of significant hyperbilirubinemia. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the time of umbilical cord clamping and transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) measurements made on various postnatal hours, Hb and serum total bilirubin (STB) levels measured on postnatal 4

Osteopetrosis (OP) is a heterogeneous group of rare, heredity bone disorders with variable clinical features involving the bones of the body. OP is characterized by increased bone density, which is caused by aberrant osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. This syndromic disorder comes with a series of problems and, unless recognized and treated early, can lead to a multitude of further grave complications. We report a rare case of a female patient who reported chronic unhealed extraoral draining sinus present over the left submandibular region with pathologic fracture of the left mandibular angl

Although maxillofacial trauma is relatively common, it still presents a challenging management. Its management includes treatment of facial bone fractures, dentoalveolar trauma and soft tissue injuries as well as associated injuries. Plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons and prosthodontists have an interest in the subject of maxillofacial injuries, particularly in the area of functional as well as aesthetical stomatognathic rehabilitation. Present case was a clinical scenario with maxillofacial trauma due to entanglement in agricultural equipment leading to fracture of palatal bone and frac

Comminuted mandibular fractures are common following a high-velocity injury to the face and jaws. The inherent nature of injury and damage to the underlying hard and soft tissues often complicate the management of comminuted fractures. Traditionally, comminuted fractures were managed by closed reduction and external skeletal fixation. Titanium mesh serves as an excellent alternative in the management of comminuted mandibular fractures. The present case report presents the successful management of comminuted mandibular fractures using titanium mesh.

The superficial cervical plexus nerve block [SCPNB] procedure is frequently used throughout head and neck surgery because it is simple to learn and has a low rate of complications. The investigation of this method might produce superior outcomes in treating frequent maxillofacial disorders including mandibular fractures and infections of the odontogenic region. The SCPNB is known to play a part in the medical evacuation of head and neck abscesses, the excision of superficial diseases in the perimandibular region, and the therapy of mandibular fracture, despite the dearth of research in this ar

Mandibular ramus fracture is the second least common variant of fracture of mandible. Recently there has been an upsurge in the incidence of ramus fracture due to high velocity road traffic accidents. Ramus fracture is mostly seen in association with other mandibular fracture. This is the first report of mandibular ramus fracture associated with anterior dislocation of ipsilateral condyle into temporal fossa which was treated successfully under local anaesthesia by closed reduction.

BACKGROUND: Tumors composed of cells differentiating as both fibroblasts and histiocytes have been designated fibrous histiocytomas. Only a small percentage of these lesions behave in a malignant fashion, they are called malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH).The occurrence of MFH in membranous bones including the mandible is quite unusual. Involvement of the mandible accounts for only 3 % of all MFH bone lesions. Recent literature revealed only a few (30) cases of MFH involving the mandible but not a single case of MFH associated with pathological fracture of the mandible, probably the first su

BACKGROUND: In the literature no information about plates for the high-neck mandibular condylar osteosynthesis could be found despite that 30 plate designs have been published. The main course consider the basal condylar or diacapitular fractures. The aim of the study was to test mechanically all available designs (only 4 of 30 was proper) on polyurethane mandibles using an individually designed clamping system.
METHODS: Forces required for a 1 mm displacement of fixed fracture fragments and incidents of screw loosening were recorded.
RESULTS: It has occured that dedicated plates for fixatio

BACKGROUND: Injuries of the maxillofacial complex represent one of the most important health problems worldwide. At present, in developing India, due to poor traffic sense, maxillofacial trauma and fractures are most epidemiologic diseases. Mandible is the largest and strongest facial bone and it is the second most commonly fractured bone. Mandibular fractures can involve only one site or can often involve multiple anatomic sites simultaneously.
AIMS: The present study is aimed to know the age- and sex-related prevalence of parasymphyseal fracture, fracture of angle, condylar fracture, symphy
