OBJECTIVES: To describe canine and feline pyothorax cases, comparing bacteriology, aetiologies and short- and long-term outcomes of medical versus surgical treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical records of canine and feline pyothorax cases from two UK referral centres (2015 to 2021) were retrospectively reviewed. Follow-up was obtained from referring practices' records.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) pocket infection is the most common infectious complication following pacemaker implantation or generator replacement and generally requires complete device and lead extraction according to current international guidelines. Nevertheless, non-infectious disorders, including malignant disease, may closely mimic pocket infection, creating a challenging differential diagnosis and potentially leading to delayed diagnosis or unnecessary CIED extraction.
