INTRODUCTION: Ipsilateral proximal and shaft femoral fractures are rare, high-energy injuries associated with substantial morbidity. Evidence on predictors of adverse outcomes after surgical treatment remains limited.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study at a tertiary trauma center including all skeletally mature patients who underwent surgical treatment for ipsilateral proximal femoral fractures (femoral neck or trochanteric region) associated with femoral shaft fractures between January 2019 and December 2024. The primary outcome was a composite of major complications, includi

BACKGROUND: Neglected subaxial cervical traumatic facet dislocation (TFD) presents unique surgical challenges due to fibro-osseous ankylosis and severe segmental instability. Traditional three-stage procedures are effective in complex cases but may increase operative complexity because of repeated patient repositioning and multiple surgical corridors. This study aimed to describe an anterior-first two-stage algorithm for neglected TFD and to report preliminary feasibility observations, including the selective use of a single-screw zero-profile cage as an anterior spacer.
METHODS: Five patient

BACKGROUND: Teaching maxillofacial traumatology is challenging, as it requires not only theoretical knowledge but also advanced visuospatial skills. Conventional educational resources such as CT scans and diagrams offer limited support for understanding complex three-dimensional fracture patterns. Three-dimensional (3D) printing has emerged as a promising educational tool, yet its pedagogical impact in maxillofacial surgery remains insufficiently investigated.
METHODS: This prospective, multicenter, cluster-randomized controlled trial was conducted at three French medical faculties (Nice, Tou

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Pain is a major source of morbidity in head and neck cancer (HNC), yet its neural mechanisms remain incompletely defined. This review examines how malignant cells, the tumor microenvironment, and cancer treatment remodel peripheral sensory and autonomic circuits, and how neural activity reciprocally influences tumor biology, with particular attention to findings published since 2023.
RECENT FINDINGS: Recent studies show that HNC selectively reorganizes tumor-associated nerves rather than merely injuring a pre-existing neural scaffold. Sensory-neuron transcriptional response

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic Review.
BACKGROUND: A variety of C2 (axis) and C2/3 historical classification systems have been proposed but there still remains a need for a rational hierarchical means of characterizing these traumatic spinal injuries which involve the axis. We evaluate the utility of existing classification systems and discuss the evolution of the validated AO Spine Upper Cervical Injury Classification (UCIC) System.
METHODS: A comprehensive search of MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane Databases was performed in keeping with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-

BACKGROUND: Systemic venous congestion and right-ventricular (RV) dysfunction are key drivers of postoperative hemodynamic instability, prolonged ventilation, and acute kidney injury (AKI) after mitral valve surgery. Comprehensive echocardiography is informative but may be impractical in high-throughput pre-anesthesia workflows. We evaluated a pragmatic three-point bedside congestion score combining internal jugular vein (IJV) collapsibility, inferior vena cava (IVC) collapsibility, and invasively measured central venous pressure (CVP) for preoperative risk stratification.
METHODS: In this pr

BACKGROUND: There is a paucity of literature on the anatomical variations of the cervical branch of the facial nerve (CBFN). Poor awareness of its anatomy and variations risks intraoperative damage, misdiagnosis of facial nerve injury and undesirable functional and aesthetic outcomes for patients.
PURPOSE: To review anatomical studies on the CBFN and synthesise data on its course, innervations and common variations.
METHODS: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review of anatomical studies of the cervical branch of the facial nerve was conducted. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Web of Sci

INTRODUCTION: Horner syndrome (HS) is a rare but recognized complication of internal jugular vein (IJV) catheterization in children, resulting from injury to the cervical sympathetic pathway. Neonates and infants are particularly vulnerable due to the compact anatomy of the neck.
PRESENTATION OF THE CASE: We report a 38-day-old female infant who developed ipsilateral HS following open surgical placement of a Broviac catheter via the right IJV. The catheter was inserted under local anesthesia with sedation for prolonged intravenous therapy. Within 24 hours postoperatively, the patient presente

INTRODUCTION: Femoral neck fractures in patients with ipsilateral above-knee amputations are uncommon and present unique diagnostic, biomechanical, and surgical challenges. The absence of a distal limb limits fracture reduction, intraoperative manipulation, and implant positioning, making standard treatment techniques difficult to perform. Although several fixation and arthroplasty strategies have been described for lower-extremity amputees, reports detailing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) for displaced femoral neck fractures in young above-knee amputees remain scarce. This case highligh

BACKGROUND: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) is increasingly used for complex shoulder pathology but carries a risk of iatrogenic nerve injury, particularly to the suprascapular (SSN) and axillary nerves (AXN). Detailed morphometric data on their relationship to glenoid landmarks remain limited.
METHODS: Forty embalmed adult cadavers (60 shoulders) were dissected at PGIMER, Chandigarh, after ethics approval (PGI/IEC/2024/EIC000563). The SSN and AXN were exposed, and distances from nerves to glenoid "clock-face" positions and to osseous landmarks were measured with digital calipers.

BACKGROUND: Risk stratification remains challenging in hemodynamically stable patients with penetrating neck trauma and no hard signs. We evaluated the association between cumulative soft-sign burden and clinically significant injury (CSI) requiring therapeutic intervention.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included adults with penetrating neck trauma who were hemodynamically stable, had no hard signs, and underwent cervical computed tomography angiography (CTA). CSI was defined as a vascular or aerodigestive injury requiring therapeutic surgical or endovascular intervention. Soft-sig

UNLABELLED: In a large German clinical DXA cohort, comparisons with international reference populations were strongly device-dependent. iDXA values were consistently lower, whereas Prodigy Pro values showed closer but age- and cohort-dependent agreement. The data should not be interpreted as scanner-independent German normative reference values.
PURPOSE: To describe age-related bone mineral density patterns in a German DXA cohort and to compare device-specific femoral neck (FN) and total hip (TH) standardized BMD values with international reference cohorts.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyz

Uncontrolled bleeding remains a critical clinical challenge in trauma, surgery, and other clinical scenarios due to the risk of rapid blood loss and associated complications. This study develops a bio-based hemostatic combination (SCT) that undergoes morphology-driven transformation to enable blood confinement, capture, and tissue adhesion. The hemostatic gauze (SCCVF) provides a physical barrier to limit blood spreading, while the hemostatic gel (GTG) with 100-200 µm porous structures and abundant hydrophilic functional groups contributes to rapid blood capture and strong tissue adhesion (int

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Fifth metacarpal neck fractures rank among the most common fractures of the hand skeleton. Only about 10% of these fractures are treated surgically. There are multiple surgical treatment options. This study aims to compare the outcomes of plate osteosynthesis with those of the "bouquet" technique.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two cohorts of patients with fractures to the neck of fifth metacarpal treated at a district hospital and at a university hospital between 2017 and 2022 were evaluated, namely due to a different approach to fracture management. The district hospital cohort

High-voltage electrocution (>1000 volts) commonly presents with flash burns, flame burns, and injuries due to the entry and exit of current in the body. Sometimes, unusual injuries are encountered in high-voltage electrocution. A burst abdomen with perforation of the gastrointestinal tract is a rare entity to be seen in cases of electrocution because of its large surface area and low resistance. The case report enlightens a fatal electrocution in an occupational setting where a 19-year-old young laborer sustained a fatal electrocution after a 15-foot metallic ladder inadvertently contacted ove

Floating shoulder associated with multiple rib fractures with cervical dorsal spine fractures and lung injury has not been reported in the literature. Patient underwent single stage elective clavicle and scapula fracture stabilization. Good functional outcome at 6 months postoperative with near normal range of movements. Surgery allows early mobilization and better functional outcome. A CT scan of thorax and spine is highly recommended in such high velocity shoulder injuries to detect associated rib, spinal fractures and lung injury.
