Investigating cement-based surfaces as a sustainable flooring solution to improve Ascaris Suum egg removal and inactivation in low-resource settings.

Soil-transmitted helminths, like Ascaris lumbricoides, are significant contributors to disease burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Infections are associated with morbidity and mortality in children and are often transmitted through eggs in fecally contaminated soil. Interventions, like replacing household soil floors with cement-based alternatives, may reduce exposure to A. lumbricoides eggs, but there are currently no estimates on the removal or survival of Ascaris species eggs on cement-based surfaces. This study addresses that knowledge gap by evaluating the removal of Ascar

Echoes from Macondo: managing disseminated ascariasis with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy. A case report.

Ascaris lumbricoides is one of the most prevalent helminthic infections worldwide, yet disseminated disease is rare. In resource-limited settings, delayed diagnosis can lead to severe complications, including multiorgan dysfunction and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). There are only sporadic case reports describing the management of this entity with mechanical circulatory support such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). We report the case of a previously healthy 2-year-old girl from rural Colombia with a one-month history of abdominal pain and diarrhea. Stool examination

Influence of Incubation Time for Viability Assessment of Ascaris suum Eggs-Attempts to Optimise the Parasitological Examination.

The aim of this study was to determine the optimal incubation time for accurate assessment of Ascaris suum eggs viability, an important step in improving parasitological diagnostics. The experiment used A. suum eggs collected from three sources: adult roundworms uteri (U), pig faeces (F) and sewage sludge (S), then incubated at 27 °C and monitored weekly. The number of Petri dishes used for eggs observations for each source was 12 (100 eggs were observed on each Petri dish). Eggs were classified as dead (with clear deformations), viable (with motile larvae) or of uncertain viability (retaining

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Soil-Transmitted Helminths Among Students in Fogera District, Northwest Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infection is a widespread problem globally, particularly in rural areas. In Ethiopia, the prevalence of STH infection is high. The prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides and hookworm infections has not diminished in spite of the nation's strict STH prevention and control measures for decants. Additionally, variables linked to the high prevalence of A. lumbricoides and hookworm infections are not adequately addressed. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of STHs among students in the Fogera district, northwest Ethiopia

Performance evaluation of the diaxxoPCR system for rapid and user-friendly stool-based diagnosis of trichuriasis, ascariasis and strongyloidiasis in Mozambique.

BACKGROUND: Nucleic acid amplification tests have shown promising results for the diagnosis of soil-transmitted helminths (STH). The implementation of real-time PCR (qPCR) in low-resource settings is, however, still hampered by multiple logistical challenges. In this study, we assessed the diagnostic performance of a cartridge-based real-time PCR system (diaxxoPCR) for the detection of DNA of Trichuris trichiura, Ascaris lumbricoides, and Strongyloides stercoralis in clinical samples, using qPCR as the reference test. METHODOLOGY: Initially, a technical validation of the diaxxoPCR system in a

Zoonotic Transmission of Soil-Transmitted Helminths in a Setting with Close Human-Animal Interaction: A Cross-Sectional Pilot Study from Meghalaya, India.

Soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) remain a major public health concern, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Although Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and hookworms (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus) are commonly identified in humans, emerging evidence using molecular diagnostics capable of differentiating morphologically similar ova suggests zoonotic drivers of transmission, particularly in areas with close human-animal interaction. This pilot study investigated human and animal STH infections across nine villages of Meghalaya in the northeastern region of Ind

Activity of selected phytogenic feed additives against Ascaris suum infection in pigs.

Gastrointestinal nematodes are a serious problem in pig production, and control relies mainly on the use of synthetic anthelmintics. Alternative control options would be of high value to pig producers. In this study, we tested three different feed supplements for their anthelmintic properties using in vitro assays and an acute, controlled 15-day infection study with Ascaris suum in growing pigs. In vitro assays showed dose-dependent activity against A. suum for all three supplements. In vivo, A. suum larvae numbers were reduced by 57.9 % and 58.0 % by two of the supplements (containing garlic/

Staff Training to Improve the Preschool Educational Environment for Children with Special Needs.

The verification of model transformations is important for realizing robust model-driven engineering technologies and quality-assured automation. Many approaches for checking properties of model transformations have been proposed. Most of them have focused on the effective and efficient detection of property violations by contract checking. However, there remains the fault localization step between identifying a failing contract for a transformation based on verification feedback and precisely identifying the faulty rules. While there exist fault localization approaches in the model transforma

Current Status and Advancements in Radiotheranostics and Targeted Radionuclide Therapy in Malaysia.

Since the mid-19th century, human activities have increased greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide in the Earth's atmosphere that resulted in increased average temperature. The effects of rising temperature include soil degradation, loss of productivity of agricultural land, desertification, loss of biodiversity, degradation of ecosystems, reduced fresh-water resources, acidification of the oceans, and the disruption and depletion of stratospheric ozone. All these have an impact on human health, causing non-communicable diseases such as injuries during natural disa

Intestinal Obstruction Caused by Ascaris lumbricoides in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Ascariasis is one of the most common intestinal helminth infections worldwide, particularly in tropical regions with poor sanitary conditions. Although often asymptomatic, a heavy worm burden can cause severe complications such as intestinal obstruction. We present the case of an eight-year-old female child from a rural area of Quintana Roo, Mexico, who developed abdominal pain, vomiting, and absence of bowel movements. Computed tomography suggested intestinal obstruction with free peritoneal fluid and mural thickening. Emergency laparotomy revealed a conglomerate of Ascaris lumbricoides causi
