BACKGROUND: Dual-mobility cups in THA were designed to reduce prosthesis instability and the subsequent risk of revision surgery in high-risk patients, such as those with hip fractures. However, there are limited data from clinical studies reporting a revision benefit of dual-mobility over conventional THA. Collaboration between anthroplasty registries provides an opportunity to describe international practice variation and compare between-country, all-cause revision rates for dual-mobility and conventional THA.

AIMS: Despite multiple trials and case series on hip hemiarthroplasty designs, guidance is still lacking on which implant to use. One particularly deficient area is long-term outcomes. We present over 1,000 consecutive cemented Thompson's hemiarthroplasties over a ten-year period, recording all accessible patient and implant outcomes.
METHODS: Patient identifiers for a consecutive cohort treated between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2011 were linked to radiographs, surgical notes, clinic letters, and mortality data from a national dataset. This allowed charting of their postoperative course,

BACKGROUND: The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons guidelines report moderate evidence for cementing femoral stems for hip fractures, mainly derived from hemiarthroplasty literature. This is the first large, nonregistry study examining the influence of femoral fixation, implant type, patient characteristics, and radiographic factors on outcomes after total hip arthroplasty (THA) for acute femoral neck fractures.
METHODS: A multicenter retrospective study was performed of 709 THA cases (199 cemented, 510 cementless) for femoral neck fractures from 2006 to 2020 at three large academic ins

PURPOSE: Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) is an endemic osteoarthropathy affecting the epiphyseal growth plate of multiple joints in young and adolescent patients. Previous studies have focused on the visible deformed extremities instead of the spinal radiological features, especially the atlantoaxial joint. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and radiographic features of atlantoaxial dislocation (AAD) in adult patients with KBD.
METHODS: This study was conducted on KBD patients in three typical endemic counties between October 2017 and November 2019. The patients were evaluated by

BACKGROUND: In children with severe hereditary multiple exostoses (HME), coxa valga, and hip subluxation are common deformities. The literatures related to surgical management and prevention of hip joint subluxation in HME are scarce. In this study, we aimed to investigate the efficacy of guided growth procedure to correct coxa valga and hip subluxation in HME patients.
METHODS: We retrospectively retrieved 12 patients who received guided growth procedures for coxa valga and hip subluxation in HME patients with proximal femur exostoses with a minimum follow-up time of 2 years between 2012 and

Flexion-distraction injuries frequently cause traumatic cervical spinal cord injury (SCI). Post-traumatic instability can cause aggravation of the secondary SCI during patient care. However, there is little information on how the pattern of disco-ligamentous injury affects the SCI severity and mechanism. This study objective was to analyze how posterior disco-ligamentous injuries affect spinal cord compression and stress and strain patterns in the spinal cord during post-traumatic flexion and extension. A cervical spine finite element model including the spinal cord was used and different comb

INTRODUCTION: In Japan, laminoplasty is often chosen over anterior surgery for the treatment cervical spondylotic myelopathy because most patients are the elderly with multiple stenoses. Laminoplasty is associated with lower perioperative risk, and it can be executed by inexperienced surgeons with relative ease. However, it is also associated with progression of kyphosis, which can result in the deterioration of neck pain and recurrence of myelopathy. Herein, we present a case in which kyphosis deformity progressed post-laminoplasty, resulting in intervertebral joint dislocation and worsening

INTRODUCTION: and importance: Larsen syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that is characterized by multiple joint dislocations, flat faces that can also be referred to as "dish face", kyphoscoliosis, and anomalies of the vertebrae. Patients with this syndrome frequently develop various spinal deformities, one of them being kyphosis of the cervical spine. This deformity can lead to serious health manifestations if not surgically treated.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 6-month-old female, diagnosed with Larsen syndrome. She presented with progressive upper and lower limbs spasticity, f

INTRODUCTION: Among elderly patients, anterior column posterior hemitransverse (ACPHT) and associated both column (ABC) are common acetabular fracture patterns after low-energy mechanisms. Given the paucity of outcomes data in this cohort, the goal of this study was to determine the favorability of results with surgical versus nonsurgical management. Secondarily, factors linked with poor functional outcomes were assessed.
METHODS: Over a 16-year period, 81 patients aged ≥60 years with 82 ACPHT and ABC acetabular fractures were evaluated. Retrospectively, patient demographics, injury details,

INTRODUCTION: Synovial chondromatosis is a condition where the cells lining a joint form benign cartilaginous tumors. This benign cartilage metaplasia results in the formation of multiple intra-articular loose bodies within a joint.
CASE REPORT: This case is a 59-year-old female that presented with constant, severe left hip pain that was localized to the groin and began 2 years ago. There were severe limitation of hip flexion, extension, pain on internal rotation, and a half inch left leg shortening. Radiographs demonstrated multiple round opacities surrounding the left femoral neck. MRI show

INTRODUCTION: No detailed study dealing with an injury to the AC joint in combination with scapular fractures has been published to date. The aim of this study is to describe pathoanatomy of these injuries.
METHODS: In a series of 519 scapular fractures in adult patients from the period of 20022020 we identified a total of 20 (3.9%) cases associated with AC dislocation. The group comprised 17 men and 3 women with the mean age of 49 years (range, 2178). Radiographs of the shoulder joint followed by CT examination, including 3D reconstructions, were performed in all patients. This documentation

INTRODUCTION: Coccidioides immitis is a fungus that develops in endemic areas characterized by dry climates, with little rainfall and easy aerial dissemination. The most common form of infection is pulmonary coccidioidomycosis, although it is often asymptomatic. There are non-respiratory forms of this disease. Osteomyelitis is an extrapulmonary manifestation of C. immitis infection. Symptoms are usually nonspecific and radiographic findings are often confused with bone tumors. Treatment of coccidioidal osteomyelitis is often challenging.

OBJECTIVE: Air pollution has potential risk on asthma patients, further prolongs the length of stay. However, it is unclear that the impact of air pollution on excessive length of stay (ELoS) of heterogeneous asthma patients. In this study, we proposed a K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) embedded approach incorporating with patient status to analyze the impact of short-term air pollution on the ELoS of asthma patients.
METHODS: The KNN embedded approach includes two stages. Firstly, the KNN algorithm was employed to search for the most similar patient community and approximate kernel proxy of each ind

BACKGROUNDS: This study aimed to investigate the characteristic deformities of the hip in multiple hereditary exostoses patients (MHE) and its association with the hip impingement syndrome.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2001 and 2019, total 51 patients (102 hips) were evaluated in this study. Patients with MHE were classified to femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) symptom group, ischio-femoral impingement (IFI) symptom group and non-impingement symptom group by comparing the symptoms, clinical signs and imaging studies. To assess the morphometry of the hip in patients with MHE, the femoral n

Current national guidelines (NICE) recommends that all medically fit, independently-mobile patients without cognitive impairment receive a total hip arTHAoplasty(THA) for displaced intracapsular neck of femur (NOF) fractures. Dislocation is a concern(2-10%). Dual mobility cups have been suggested to address this complication. Our study sets out to compare dislocation rates between dual mobility cups versus unipolar cups. We performed a retrospective single centre multiple surgeon study of all THAs performed for NOFs between January 2012 and May 2018. A total of 322 total hip replacements (127

The hip joint involvement in multiple hereditary exostoses (MHE) occurs in 30-90%, causing pain and limitation of motion by femoroacetabular impingement, coxa valga, acetabular dysplasia, hip joint subluxation, and osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of ten hips in seven patients treated by surgical dislocation and corrective osteotomies between 2004 and 2009. Surgical dislocation and excision of the osteochondromas and varus intertrochanteric osteotomies were performed in all cases when the neck-shaft angle was > 150°. Common sit

Monteggia fractures classically involve a proximal ulna fracture with an associated radial head dislocation. The presence of radial head/neck fracture and comminution of the proximal ulna with coronoid involvement elevates the complexity of surgical reconstruction considerably. The Jupiter classification captures this injury pattern as a subgroup of Bado posterior Monteggia lesions. Access to the critical coronoid fragment can be problematic from the posterior approach and may result in tenuous reduction and fixation, directly affecting the functional outcome. Multiple operative techniques hav
