BACKGROUND: The method for mouse vascularized heart transplantation have been described using suture and cuff techniques. Technical problems have limited its widespread use. Here, we describe our method of modified cervical heterotopic transplantation with the cuff technique.

In a living patient, a hemotympanum can be a sign of a temporal bone fracture. Postmortem endoscopy in forensic autopsy cases also revealed hemotympanum findings without any fracture. Thoracic compression or cranio-facial congestion were probably the pathogenetic mechanism in some of the cases. An engorgement of the internal and external jugular veins was found in all cases. Due to increased intravenous and intraarterial pressure, capillary hemorrhages were revealed in endoscopy and histological sections.

The evolution of the healing process of venous puncture wounds was studied macroscopically and light-microscopically in order to determine the time of venipuncture. Pedicle and free microsurgical reanastomized vascularised flaps are useful to cover defects in an irradiated area. In 51 patients microvascular anastomoses were performed on irradiated vessels in the neck area. Facial reconstruction was done after radiation by free flaps. Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) causes formation of reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) which lead to mucosal cell injury.
