Inferior vena cava hyperechoic structure in a patient with cardiac myxoma: a surgical case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: IVC hyperechoic structure detected by echocardiography is relatively uncommon and is usually associated with deep vein thrombosis and cancers. In most cases, the etiology can be clarified using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, we encountered an IVC hyperechoic structure that was not confirmed by multimodality imaging in a patient with cardiac myxoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old woman presented with sudden-onset left hemiplegia and right homonymous hemianopsia. On arrival, her left arm was cold to the touch. Contrast-enhanced CT demonstra

Superior Vena Cava Syndrome Immediately After Transvenous Lead Extraction: A Rare But Important Complication.

BACKGROUND: Superior vena cava syndrome is recognized as a complication of cardiac implantable electronic devices, usually resulting from a chronic venous obstruction related to transvenous leads. However, acute presentation is uncommon and may represent a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. CASE SUMMARY: A 45-year-old man with long-standing pacemaker dependency due to complete heart block underwent transvenous lead extraction due to pacing-induce cardiomyopathy. Shortly after the procedure, he developed facial edema and cyanosis. Imaging revealed chronic right axillary vein thrombosis and

Emergent Total Endovascular Repair Using Retrograde in Situ Branched Stent Grafting for Ruptured Retrograde Aortic Dissection.

An 85-year-old bedridden woman (modified Rankin Scale 5) presented with a contained rupture of an acute retrograde aortic dissection (Type B0,7). Because open surgery was prohibitive due to severe frailty, an emergent total endovascular repair was performed using single-branch, retrograde in situ branched stent grafting (RIBS). Two conformable GORE TAG devices established a Zone 1 seal, and the left common carotid artery was preserved by in situ needle fenestration using a percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage needle and bridged with a VIABAHN VBX stent. To limit embolic risk, cerebra

Retained Coronary Guidewire With Proximal Systemic Extension Requiring Emergent Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.

BACKGROUND: Retained coronary guidewire fracture with proximal systemic extension is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of percutaneous coronary intervention, occurring in approximately 0.02% to 0.08% of procedures. CASE SUMMARY: A 66-year-old man with myocardial infarction underwent intravascular ultrasound-guided percutaneous coronary intervention for subtotal right coronary artery occlusion. High-pressure post-dilation of overlapping drug-eluting stents caused guidewire entrapment, fracture, and proximal extension into the ascending aorta and right subclavian artery. Foll

A Rare Complete Vascular Ring: Right Aortic Arch, Large Left Sided Patent Ductus Arteriosus, and Isolated Left Subclavian and Vertebral Arteries Mimicking a Double Aortic Arch.

We present the case of a symptomatic 6 month old infant with a very rare form of complete vascular ring caused by a right aortic arch with abnormal branching pattern and a large left-sided patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). The large left sided PDA connected between the main pulmonary artery and the descending thoracic aorta. This configuration in combination with the right aortic arch caused tracheoesophageal compression. In addition, the left subclavian artery (LSA) and left vertebral artery (LVA) were originating from the PDA (Isolated left subclavian and left vertebral artery). This anomaly c

The effects of 8 weeks of repeated sprint training on aerobic endurance, anaerobic power, agility and explosive strength in college badminton players.

BACKGROUND: Badminton is a physically demanding sport requiring a combination of aerobic endurance, anaerobic power, agility, and explosive strength. Repeated sprint training (RST) has emerged as a time-efficient strategy for improving physical performance, but its comprehensive effects on badminton players are not fully elucidated. METHODS: Twenty-eight male collegiate badminton players were randomly assigned to either a repeated sprint training group (RST; n = 14) or a high-intensity interval training group (HIIT; n = 14). In addition to regular skill-based badminton practice, the RST group

Social interdependencies: the deep evolutionary roots of morality and normativity.

The conducting airways of the respiratory system play a crucial role in filtering, humidifying, and directing air into the lungs. Among the specialized cell types within these airways, airway serous cells are notable for their secretion of watery, protein-rich fluids and enzymes, which contribute to maintaining airway surface liquid homeostasis and defending against pathogens. However, the distribution and abundance of serous cells across different species in the conducting airways remain poorly understood. In this study, we addressed this gap by investigating the spatial distribution of the a

Transradial cerebral angiography: predicting left ICA selective angiography success using pre-diagnostic aortic arch factors.

BACKGROUND: Transradial cerebral angiography (TRA) is a convenient but challenging procedure, particularly for selecting the left internal carotid artery (ICA) and vertebral artery. OBJECTIVE: To predict the selection of the left ICA using CT and MR images acquired before TRA. METHODS: Overall, 306 patients with TRA were enrolled and divided into either the group with success (264 patients) or the failure (42 patients) group. The following anatomical factors were measured: A1 (subclavian artery angle), A2 (right subclavian-innominate artery angle), A3 (innominate-left common carotid artery a

Development and validation of a perfused cadaveric model for neurovascular transradial access with insights from angiography and angioscopy.

BACKGROUND: The development of safe and effective endovascular devices is dependent on accurate simulation of anticipated use environments during preclinical testing. We sought to optimize and evaluate the human 'live cadaver' neurovascular model for the purpose of testing radial access catheters. We aimed to assess the realism of our model during simulated neurointerventional procedures as well as explore and characterize potential challenges of radial access catheters. METHODS: A human 'live cadaver' model was developed from a cadaveric specimen consisting of the head, neck, bilateral upper

Practical arterial atlas of the pig for neurointerventional simulation.

This article presents a practical anatomical atlas of the arterial neuroanatomy of the swine, intended for training and research in neurointerventional surgery. The swine is a well-established large-animal model due to its anatomical similarities with humans. The atlas begins with a concise overview of the femoroiliac arterial tree and the aorta, followed by a focused description of the common carotid and subclavian arteries, and finally the cephalic arteries-both intracranial and extracranial. Average lengths and diameters of the cephalic arterial segments in pigs (30-80 kg) were retrospectiv

Rosuvastatin for intracranial aneurysms treated with flow diverters: preclinical study in rabbits.

BACKGROUND: Flow diverters (FDs) revolutionized cerebral aneurysm treatment by promoting aneurysm sac sealing but have limitations, including thromboembolic complications and incomplete occlusion. Rosuvastatin enhances endothelialization via endothelial progenitor cell mobilization and nitric oxide bioavailability, potentially improving FD healing. This study assessed the effect of rosuvastatin on FD endothelialization in a rabbit aneurysm model. METHODS: Twenty-two rabbits with elastase-induced aneurysms underwent FD implantation in the right subclavian artery. In the same animals, FDs were

New approach to type B aortic dissection - zone 2.5 thoracic endovascular aortic repair: a case report.

We report a novel thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) technique for complicated type B aortic dissection requiring zone 2 landing. A 42-year-old man presented with pulseless left femoral artery. Emergency TEVAR was performed using the left subclavian artery (LSA) wall as a sealing zone to reduce the risk of endoleak. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, and the patient was discharged on day 8. CT demonstrated complete coverage of the entry tear, false lumen thrombosis, and preserved left subclavian perfusion. Follow-up CT showed favorable remodeling. This technique may be effective i

Endovascular embolization for primary racemose hemangioma of the bronchial artery supplied by multiple systemic arteries: A rare case report.

RATIONALE: Primary racemose hemangioma of the bronchial artery (RHBA) is a rare congenital vascular malformation, typically confined to the bronchial artery. Concomitant vascular supply originating from multiple non-bronchial systemic arteries (NBSAs) is exceedingly rare and significantly complicates treatment procedures. PATIENT CONCERNS: We report an asymptomatic 66-year-old woman in whom incidental imaging revealed RHBA sustained by a complicated network of multiple systemic feeding arteries. Long-term impact of a left upper limb arteriovenous fistula on coronary artery bypass surgery with left internal thoracic artery to left anterior descending artery anastomosis.

BACKGROUND: The left internal thoracic artery (LITA) to left anterior descending artery (LAD) anastomosis is standard in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) owing to its long-term patency. However, in hemodialysis patients with an ipsilateral upper-limb arteriovenous fistula (AVF), in-situ LITA grafting may raise concern for coronary steal syndrome (CSS). We assessed whether AVF laterality influences outcomes after CABG with LITA-LAD in hemodialysis patients. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed hemodialysis patients who underwent isolated primary CABG with in-situ LITA-LAD between 2002 an
