We report the case of a 52-year old woman who presented with a 4-year history of depression associated with intermittent dysphagia and globus sensation for which she was admitted to a nursing home. Physical examination revealed a murmur on the right carotid artery, while the routine biochemical tests were normal. Chest computer tomography (CT) demonstrated the presence of an anomalous vessel departing from the aortic arch; angiography showed an aberrant right subclavian artery of large lumen and a severe stenosis at the origin of the right internal carotid artery. Surgical intervention was per

OBJECTIVE: To report clinical presentation, diagnostic procedures and treatment of patients with anomalous subclavian artery. SUBJECTS: Fifteen patients with anomalous subclavian artery followed up at the Department of Pediatrics, Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Paraná. RESULTS: Age at diagnosis varied from birth to eight years, and 10/15 were female. Nine presented with respiratory symptoms (cough, pneumonia, stridor, wheezing). Eleven had gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting and choking). Six patients have both respiratory and digestive symptoms. Diagnosis was suggested by bar

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Type 2 diabetes is prone to numerous comorbidities resulting from complex mechanisms involving hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, low-grade inflammation and accelerated atherogenesis. The purpose of the present study was to investigate these disorders and their associated risk factors according to patient sex in a population of type 2 diabetics in North-Eastern Morocco.
METHODS: This study was conducted in a medical analysis laboratory over a 1-year period from 01/10/2018 to 01/10/2019. This epidemiological study was carried out on 830 subjects aged 18 and over. Quantitati

The Subclavian Steal Syndrome is a condition that results from the stenosis or occlusion of the subclavian artery proximal to the origin of the vertebral artery. The blockage causes the reversal of the normal direction of blood flow in the vertebral artery which is termed the "steal", because it steals blood from the cerebral circulation. Blood is drawn from the contralateral vertebral, basilar or carotid artery regions into the low-pressure ipsilateral upper limb vessels. Although a relatively uncommon disease, it represents a condition which mimics many conditions often treated by chiropract

A total of 34 stenotic lesions of the vertebral or subclavian artery were treated in 29 patients using percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Seventeen patients were followed angiographically for up to 2 years after PTA. Of 17 patients, five (29.4%) had restenosis which developed between 3 and 6 months after the procedure. Of these patients, two were treated by repeat angioplasty uneventfully, two were treated by surgical reconstruction, and the fifth is being observed without treatment while the patient remains asymptomatic. Neointimal fibromuscular hyperplasia as seen in the surgically

For surgical therapy of stenosis and occlusion of the subclavian artery, several types of extrathoracic vascular reconstructions have recently been performed, mainly in the supraclavicular fossa. Carotid-subclavian bypass is becoming a more acceptable surgical procedure than axilloaxillary bypass. We encountered three patients with these lesions who underwent common carotid-subclavian bypass with autogenous saphenous vein grafts. Their symptoms were completely relieved and pulsation of the radial artery recovered sufficiently. Restoration of inflow from the carotid artery was able to provide a
