Isolated avulsion of the short head of the biceps tendon from the coracoid insertion: A case report and narrative review of the literature.

Isolated injuries to the short head of the biceps (SHB) are uncommon, and the existing literature mainly includes case reports documenting tears at the muscle belly or myotendinous junction. This case report presents the first reported SHB tendon injury at the coracoid insertion in a 34-year-old healthy male patient after trauma while playing with his daughter. The injury occurred with the arm forced into hyperextension, abduction, and external rotation, with the elbow fully extended. Diagnosis was confirmed by MRI, showing an isolated insertional tear of the SHB tendon with intact coracobrach

Transosseous Double-Row Triceps Repair in a Professional Athlete.

Distal triceps rupture is a relatively rare pathology among muscle-tendon injuries and upper extremity trauma. The most common mechanisms include a fall onto an outstretched arm or direct trauma to the extended elbow, both of which can lead to disruption of the distal triceps tendon. The available literature on treatment outcomes remains limited; however, recent reports suggest that surgical management offers superior results compared with conservative approaches. Among surgical techniques, both suture anchors and transosseous suturing are established options. In this report, we describe the u

Mechanisms for the formation and maintenance of microhabitat self-organization in the root system of orchid.

BACKGROUND: It is widely accepted that most patients treated with rotator cuff repair do well regardless of the integrity of the repair. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to reexamine this concept and identify the factors affecting the outcomes of patients with a recurrent tear. METHODS: A cohort of patients who had been treated with rotator cuff repair completed a survey regarding satisfaction with the operatively treated shoulder, physical activity, and shoulder function. Ultrasonography was performed to determine rotator cuff integrity. Patients were divided into three age cate

Clinical application of multi-parameter ultrasonic assessment for grading rotator cuff injuries: development and validation of a novel scoring system.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff injuries, a leading cause of shoulder pain and dysfunction, present significant diagnostic challenges. While MRI is the diagnostic gold standard, ultrasonography (US) offers a cost-effective alternative but lacks standardization. This study addresses this gap by developing and validating a novel multiparameter ultrasonic scoring system to increase the diagnostic accuracy and clinical applicability of shoulder ultrasonography for rotator cuff pathology. METHODS: A retrospective diagnostic accuracy study of 252 patients with suspected rotator cuff injury was analyzed. I

Progressive Rotator Cuff Tears Alter Strain Across Footprint and Tear Borders: Subregion-Specific Loading Reveals Size-Dependent Mechanical Risk Zones.

Rotator cuff (RC) tears frequently involve the supraspinatus (SSP) muscle, which consists of anterior and posterior subregions with distinct functional roles. As tear size progresses, it remains unclear how force from these subregions transmits to the RC tendon stump. This study examined strain distribution across SSP tendon stump regions during isolated and subregion-specific muscle loading under increasing tear sizes. Eight fresh-frozen male cadaveric shoulders (mean age: 63 years) were tested. The humerus was fixed at 45° abduction, and the SSP muscle (whole, anterior, or posterior) was loa

A Novel Arthroscopic Medial Knot-Tying Suture-Bridge Repair with Rip-Stop Technique for Rotator Cuff Tears.

Rotator cuff tears remain one of the most common injuries encountered by shoulder surgeons. Although arthroscopic suture-bridge repair has demonstrated superior biomechanical properties and achieved promising clinical results, tendon retears remain a persistent challenge. To address this issue, we have introduced several refinements to optimize the existing repair techniques. One such refinement is the incorporation of a medial knot in the suture-bridge repair, which can decrease gap formation and enable a watertight repair, thereby improving tendon-bone healing. Another critical modification

Specific non-myogenic mesenchymal cells contribute to rotator cuff tear myosteatosis and fibrosis revealing novel therapeutic options.

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles in the shoulder, which aid in movement and rotation of the upper arm. Rotator cuff tears (RCTs) within tendons of these muscles are common musculoskeletal injuries, often resulting in intramuscular fat, fibrosis, and muscle atrophy. Fatty infiltration specifically correlates with high rates of retear following repair. The cellular sources and molecular cues that cause these pathologies are unknown and therefore non-surgical cell/drug therapies for RCTs do not exist. Thus, we first sought to determine the cellular source(s) and molecular underpinnings
