The strength of the shoulder was measured isokinetically in forty patients who had undergone surgical repair of a torn rotator cuff. Thirty-three patients were tested six months postoperatively and twenty-four, after a year. Under study there were 278 patients with 285 subcutaneous ruptures of tendons and muscles of the upper and lower extremities. The fibre type ratio and the cross sectional areas of fibres were studied in triceps brachial muscle after rupture of tendon of the biceps brachial muscle in man. On the healthy and injured sides of the m. triceps brachii, the mean value of type 1 fibres was 51.9% and 52.4%, respectively. The mean cross sectional area of fibre on the two sides of the triceps muscle varied considerably among individuals without any significant correlation to injury of the biceps tendon.

Eight cases of injury of the muscle triceps surae after a sclerosing injection in the territory of the external saphenous vein, are reported. In one case, it concerned an extremely severe evolution with necessary amputation of the leg; in the seven other cases, the consequences were less severe but the rate of partial permanent disability increased from 10 to 30 p. cent. Fifteen quadriplegic (tetraplegic) patients from the Spinal Injuries Unit of the Austin Hospital have had surgery to improve function in 17 of their upper limbs. Thirteen patients with ruptures of the calcaneal tendon diagnosed more than four weeks after injury were reviewed. Eleven patients had operative reconstruction with tendon shortening and the postoperative follow-up ranged from one to seven years. Forty-four post traumatic paralyses of the brachial plexus were operated on to restore elbow flexion using tendon transfers. We report 24 patients with a clinical diagnosis of frozen shoulder who underwent an arthroscopic examination and were reviewed. A painful and stiff shoulder was present for an average of 8 months prior to the arthroscopy. The examinations were performed under general anesthesia and through a posterior route. The capacity of the genohumeral joint was measured by infiltration of physiologic saline and it was subnormal in almost 60% of the cases.
