The supraspinatus slide procedure described by Debeyre et al. (1965) offers an opportunity for the surgeon to repair certain large and late ruptures of the rotator cuff. Many of the injuries suffered by today's athletes are sited in the Triceps Surae. The most common of these are the rupture of the Achilles Tendon and the disinsertion of the inferior Gemellus muscle. The clinical diagnosis is straightforward, based as it is on the sudden appearance of certain conditions: pain, disablement, haematoma, and sometimes laceration. Medial displacement of the long tendon of the biceps brachii muscle is a rare condition associated with degenerative or traumatic ruptures of the rotator cuff. A 47-year-old paraplegic patient is described who developed a massive synovial cyst of the upper extremity. The cyst developed in combination with a tear of the rotator cuff and the long head of the biceps tendon and involved the fasica surrounding the long head of the biceps. The increased pressure in the cyst resulted in a compartment syndrome of a portion of the long head of the biceps muscle. A review of the literature revealed no similar case.

A case of a 20 year old patient with an Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is described, in which a rupture of the Achilles tendon is repaired by a segmental tendon homograft. The function of the triceps surae returned to normal gradually and the plantar flexion was even weaker after 2 years. The technique and importance of the special radiography of the soft tissue is discussed with regard to the clinical diagnosis. Radiographs, histomorphologic and histologic results illustrate the course of the healing.

Two cases of unusual snapping at the elbow are described. In both, the medial head of the triceps was found to be separated from the main muscle belly. During flexion of the elbow, the medial head dislocated over the medial epicondyle, producing a characteristic snapping phenomenon. An account is given of 12 high ruptures of the triceps surae, a traumatic lesion of the medial belly of the gastrocnemius, caused by sudden overstreching of the muscle by concomitant ankle dorsiflexion and full knee extension. In all cases the authors found characteristic clinical features. Surgical exploration in 5 of 12 cases verified the ruptures of the musculotendinous junction of the medial gastrocnemius belly. A follow-up study of 2 years showed that the surgical treatment seems to be better, especially in younger and athletic patients.

These experiments describe electromyographic activity and forces developed during step-down from several heights.
