Distal triceps rupture is a relatively rare pathology among muscle-tendon injuries and upper extremity trauma. The most common mechanisms include a fall onto an outstretched arm or direct trauma to the extended elbow, both of which can lead to disruption of the distal triceps tendon. The available literature on treatment outcomes remains limited; however, recent reports suggest that surgical management offers superior results compared with conservative approaches. Among surgical techniques, both suture anchors and transosseous suturing are established options. In this report, we describe the u

CONTEXT: Running-related Achilles tendon injuries have been observed more frequently in males, which may reflect sex differences in tendon morphology or mechanics during running. Males exhibit a larger Achilles tendon cross-sectional area and some measures of Achilles tendon loading in running, but sex differences in measures of tendon loading have not been thoroughly characterized. This study examines sex differences in the Achilles tendon cross-sectional area and Achilles tendon loading variables associated with running kinetics and kinematics.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional.
METHODS: Recruited f

Plantarflexor weakness in Achilles tendinopathy has long been attributed to soleus dysfunction. However, recent neurophysiological and biomechanical evidence challenge this view, suggesting selective deficits in gastrocnemius lateralis muscle-tendon unit. This article reexamines the role of the triceps surae in Achilles tendinopathy and proposes a shift toward assessing gastrocnemius lateralis deficits and targeting rehabilitation to restore its function.

BACKGROUND: Forearm pronation and supination are fundamental movements essential for daily activities and clinical applications. While supinator and biceps brachii contribute to supination, and pronator quadratus and pronator teres facilitate pronation, the precise activation patterns and torque-dependent recruitment strategies of these muscles remain incompletely understood. Conflicting evidence exists regarding muscle contribution at varying load conditions, with implications for rehabilitation protocols, surgical planning, and prosthetic design.
PURPOSE: This study aimed to quantify and co

The stiffness of the triceps surae (TS) muscles during passive stretch has been increasingly studied using shear wave elastography (SWE). However, the continuous behavior of the Achilles tendon (AT) and its interaction with the TS muscles remain poorly understood, limiting understanding of tissue mechanics. This study aimed to characterize the angle-specific stiffness profiles of the individual TS muscles-the medial gastrocnemius (MG), lateral gastrocnemius (LG), and soleus (SOL)-and the AT during passive ankle dorsiflexion under identical experimental conditions. In this cross-sectional study

Achilles tendon ruptures cause muscle-tendon structural and functional deficits that persist years after the initial injury. A healthy Achilles tendon contains three semi-independent subtendons that slide relative to each other during muscle contractions in healthy adults. However, such sliding decreases postinjury as load sharing-likely caused by intratendinous adhesions-increases between adjacent subtendons. This study quantifies changes in subtendon load sharing 6-12 months following Achilles tendon rupture when patients are cleared by their surgeon to fully return to physical activities. W

Background/Objectives: Distal biceps tendon rupture (DBTR) significantly impairs upper-limb function, particularly in movements requiring elbow flexion and forearm supination. This condition continues to attract clinical interest due to its complex biomechanics, evolving surgical strategies, and the growing emphasis on comprehensive rehabilitation. Contemporary evidence highlights the value of a multidisciplinary approach that integrates precise surgical repair with structured, progressive physiotherapy to optimize outcomes effectively. Methods: We performed a comprehensive review of the liter

The shoulder complex exhibits a distinctive amalgamation of muscular power, integration, and an extensive range of motion. The shoulder joint allows for a wide range of upper limb movements because the four small muscles that make up the musculotendinous rotator cuff work together to keep the joint stable. The four muscles that come from the scapula and form the rotator cuff are the subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor. Accurate diagnosis and proper management of shoulder-related injuries are essential, particularly for sportspersons and individuals engaged in heavy wei

Achilles tendon rupture impairs the functional performance of the triceps surae muscle-tendon unit. However, long-term effects of different rehabilitation programs on these impairments remain unclear. This study evaluated the long-term effects of early rehabilitation versus cast immobilization after Achilles tendon repair. We also examined whether the uninjured side could serve as a reference for the "Работает" side. Males with previous Achilles tendon rupture (n = 20) and a group of healthy male controls (CTR; n = 10) participated. Participants with Achilles tendon rupture included a short-ter

INTRODUCTION: Calf muscle injuries are common in running and sprint-based sports, but remain too often grouped under a single label despite important differences between gastrocnemius, soleus and, less commonly, plantaris-related injuries. This review evaluates current evidence on anatomy, diagnosis, imaging, classification, prognosis, return to play, and recurrence.
SOURCES OF DATA: A structured narrative review was undertaken using PubMed/MEDLINE and Scopus, with searches updated to 23 February 2026. After deduplication and screening, 82 articles were included, including eight seminal pre-w

INTRODUCTION: The triceps brachii muscle (TBM) is the main muscle of the posterior aspect of the arm, occupying most of the extensor compartment. Proximally, it is composed of three heads: long, lateral, and medial, and presents a single tendon. Its insertion in the olecranon region remains controversial. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) assessment and detailed knowledge of this insertion may assist in orthopedic surgical reconstructions.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the anatomical aspect of the insertion of the triceps brachii tendon (TBT) into the olecranon regarding tendon insertion.
METHODS: I

OBJECTIVE: The olecranon medial flip osteotomy offers adequate exposure to the posterior elbow, while preserving the continuity of the triceps extensor complex and sparing the innervation of the anconeus muscle. It avoids soft-tissue injury due to strain and aids in protecting the ulnar nerve by medially reflecting the long head of triceps.
INDICATIONS: This surgical approach allows the exposure required for total elbow arthroplasty and concomitant radial head excision.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Patients who underwent previous surgical procedures to the triceps tendon insertion.

OBJECTIVE: Present the olecranon flip osteotomy approach for the treatment of distal humerus fractures as an alternative to the chevron osteotomy or previously described triceps-sparing approaches.
INDICATIONS: Distal humerus fractures requiring direct visualization of the articular surface.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Patient unfit for surgery.
SURGICAL TECHNIQUE: A longitudinal skin incision starting 10 cm proximal to the olecranon tip is performed. The incision curves radially around the tip of the olecranon and continues distally, parallel to the ulnar crest. Identify and protect the ulnar nerve

Falls are a leading cause of injury-related hospitalization, morbidity, and mortality in older adults, with impaired postural control serving as a key predictor of fall risk. The triceps surae, and particularly the soleus, plays a central role in maintaining upright stance by generating continuous plantarflexion moments that stabilize the body's center of mass. This mini-review summarizes evidence for the neuromechanical contributions of the soleus to postural stability and how these functions decline with age. Mechanically, the soleus acts as a brace for balance, providing sustained torque th

PURPOSE: To clarify whether passive ankle joint stiffness (slope of angle-passive torque curve) is related to stiffnesses in the triceps surae muscles, tibial nerve, and Achilles tendon.
METHODS: Thirty-eight healthy adults participated in the study. The passive ankle joint stiffness and shear wave velocities (an index of soft tissue stiffness) of the medial and lateral gastrocnemius and soleus muscles and tibial nerve were measured at 5° of ankle plantarflexion and 5°, 15°, and 25° of ankle dorsiflexion. The shear wave velocity of the Achilles tendon was measured only at 5° of plantarflexion

BACKGROUND: Maudsley Family Therapy (MFT), and its manualised version, Family-Based Therapy (FBT), are the only well-established treatment interventions for adolescent anorexia nervosa (AN), with treatment efficacy primarily measured by improvements in eating behaviours and weight restoration. A crucial component of this therapy is an intensive home-based refeeding intervention that requires a substantial commitment from parents for up to one year. While this treatment works to restore weight in a proportion of adolescents, very little is known about its impacts on family distress, relationshi

A high proportion of individuals with Achilles tendinopathy continue to demonstrate long-term symptoms and functional impairments after exercise treatment. Thus, there is a need to delineate patient presentations that may require alternative treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate if the presence of metabolic risk factors relates to tendon symptoms, psychological factors, triceps surae structure, and lower limb function in individuals with Achilles tendinopathy. One hundred and fifty-eight individuals (88 female) with diagnosed midportion Achilles tendinopathy were divided into

BACKGROUND: Biomechanical studies suggest that the triceps brachii muscle generates resistive force against valgus stress on the elbow during baseball pitching. However, given the parallel fiber orientation in the distal tendinous structure of the triceps brachii, the mechanism behind this anti-valgus force remains unclear. In the present study, we aimed to examine the anatomy of the distal tendinous structure of the triceps brachii using bony morphological, macroscopic, and histologic methods.
METHODS: We analyzed 25 elbow specimens from 18 cadavers, all of Japanese ethnicity, using micro-co
