PURPOSE: Paediatric radial neck fractures are challenging to treat. Multiple strategies exist for reduction and fixation; there is no clear consensus on the best surgical technique to achieve reduction. The percutaneous leverage technique is a method for reduction of radial neck fractures that has previously been described by Wallace, though there is a lack of published literature on this technique. We present a technical note and a modest case series on our modification to the percutaneous leverage technique accompanied by intramedullary fixation.
METHODS: We describe a retrospective series

PURPOSE: Anatomically preshaped implants are needed for exact restoration of the anatomy after fractures of the proximal ulna and ulnar shaft, which enables a good functional outcome. Aim of this computed tomographic analysis was to identify specific characteristics of the ulna. The data serve for the development of a new intramedullary implant for stabilisation of proximal and diaphyseal ulna fractures.
METHODS: With a standardized research method 100 CT scans of the ulna were evaluated regarding anatomic parameters like width of the medullary canal, proximal ulna dorsal angulation and varus

Radial head dislocations are uncommon in adults. They are commonly seen in children and are generally associated with proximal ulna fracture. Radial head dislocation with associated proximal radial shaft fracture is rarer than isolated radial head dislocation in adults. Due to the rarity of this complex injury, in the absence of keen observation and meticulous attention, the correct diagnosis might be missed leading to unsatisfactory management and related complications. Here, a similar case of radial head dislocation with associated proximal radial shaft fracture has been presented.

Fractures of the radial shaft associated with disruption of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) are termed Galeazzi fractures. These fractures are unstable injuries requiring open reduction and internal fixation of the fracture to achieve optimal outcomes. DRUJ stability should be carefully assessed intraoperatively and addressed accordingly.

RATIONALE: Greenstick fractures most commonly occur in the pediatric population, especially in those under 10 years of age. Greenstick fractures are "extremely" rare in adults. This report presents the case of a greenstick fracture of the ulnar shaft in an adult following physical therapy for a radial neck fracture and ulnar shaft fracture post-internal fixation. Greenstick fracture can occur during physical therapy near the drill holes created during surgery.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 23-year-old man without any past medical history had sustained a greenstick fracture of the ulnar shaft after reha

INTRODUCTION: Lateral condyle fractures and both bone forearm fractures account for 10-15% and 13-40% of all elbow fractures in children, respectively. About 5% of forearm fractures in children have associated supracondylar fractures; hence, any forearm fractures warrant a careful examination of the elbow, and any radiographs taken should visualize the elbow joint above and wrist joint below for other injuries. We report a case of multiple upper limb fracture in a child, comprising lateral condyle and both bone forearm fractures.
CASE REPORT: A 5-year-old boy was admitted through the emergenc

BACKGROUND: Forearm fractures are common injuries among children and adolescents. Traditionally, they were managed conservatively with closed reduction and cast immobilization. The last decade there is an increasing trend towards operative treatment. The treatment modalities available include plate and screws, flexible intramedullary nailing and external fixation devices - rarely used nowadays. The aim of this systematic review is to investigate the indications of flexible intramedullary nailing in the childhood population, to compare its results with plating and to provide detailed informatio

BACKGROUND: A vascularized distal radius graft can be a reliable solution for the treatment of refractory ulnar nonunion. The aim of this study is to establish the anatomical basis of a vascularized bone graft pedicled by the anterior interosseous artery and report its clinical application, using cadaveric studies and a case report.
METHODS: Fourteen fresh frozen cadaveric upper limbs were used. The branches of the anterior interosseous artery (the 2, 3 intercompartmental supraretinacular artery and the fourth extensor compartment artery) were measured at the bifurcation site. The anatomical

Inherited retinal degenerations (IRDs) are characterized by the progressive loss of photoreceptors and represent one of the most prevalent causes of blindness among working-age populations. Cyclic nucleotide dysregulation is a common pathological feature linked to numerous forms of IRD, yet the precise mechanisms through which this contributes to photoreceptor death remain elusive. Here we demonstrate that cAMP induced upregulation of the dependence receptor neogenin in the retina. Neogenin levels were also elevated in both human and murine degenerating photoreceptors. We found that overexpres

INTRODUCTION: Non-union of the radius and ulna is a major complication of forearm fractures, accounting upto 10% of all forearm fractures. Multiple modalities are available for the treatment of non-union. Vascular grafts are a less sought-after surgical choice owing to the need of expertise and skills of surgeons. We discuss a case of gap non-union of fracture shaft radius treated with vascular fibula graft.
CASE REPORT: We describe a case of 45yr old lady with closed fracture of both bones of left forearm. She underwent open reduction and internal fixation with 3.5 small DCP (6 hole) two days

BACKGROUND: Monteggia, Galeazzi, and Essex-Lopresti injuries are the most common types of fracture-dislocation of the forearm. Uncommon variants and rare traumatic patterns of forearm fracture-dislocations have sometimes been reported in literature. In this study we systematically review the literature to identify and classify all cases of forearm joint injury pattern according to the forearm joint and three-locker concepts.
METHODS: A comprehensive search of the PubMed database was performed based on major pathological conditions involving fracture-dislocation of the forearm. Essex-Lopresti

INTRODUCTION: Following closed reduction and initial casting of pediatric forearm fractures, loss of reduction (LOR) occurs in ∼5% to 75% of fractures. Sugar-tong splinting has been shown to maintain acceptable reduction in pediatric distal radius fractures while potentially avoiding issues associated with circumferential casting. We hypothesized that the sugar-tong splint would be an acceptable method for initial immobilization to prevent LOR in distal, mid-shaft, and proximal pediatric forearm fractures.
METHODS: This is an IRB-approved, retrospective study. Inclusion criteria included pedi

Background: Defining an intraoperative radiographic view to best determine the radial styloid screw position in locked volar plating of distal radius fractures may improve fixation and aid in decreasing cortical penetration and implant complication. We used a cadaveric model to demonstrate a reproducible, oblique radiographic view to identify the radial styloid screw position. Methods: Nine fresh-frozen elbow-to-fingertip cadavers were used for this study. A 2.4-mm variable angle volar distal radius locking plate was applied to the distal radius. A Kirschner wire (K-wire) was inserted into the

Background: Ulnar styloid fractures (USFs) are common concomitant injuries associated with distal radius fractures (DRFs). Recent studies have found conflicting evidence on whether these fractures treated or untreated effect pain and functional outcomes. The purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate pain and function outcomes of consecutively untreated USFs in surgically repaired DRFs. The study hypothesis was that there would be no difference in outcomes whether an USF is present or not, with all cases left untreated. Methods: A prospective study at a single institution of consecuti

Objectives Most of the fractures of the bones of the forearm in children are successfully treated conservatively with closed reduction and casting. The outcomes remain variable and the patients may require additional fracture manipulation or formal surgical intervention due to residual angulations. The present study assesses the radiological and functional outcomes of treating displaced forearm fractures in children with intramedullary flexible titanium elastic nailing. Methods A total of 31 patients aged between 7 and 15 years old with displaced forearm fractures underwent flexible titanium
