This study utilized a portable data logger to measure the wrist angles and forearm flexor and extensor electromyography (EMG) of 21 hairstylists. Claims for negligence are increasing in medical practice. We analysed data provided by the UK NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) on all hand and wrist surgery from 1995-2001. The numbers of claims increased from 13 to 40, but the number being successfully defended also increased from 2 to 13 during this period. Claims were most commonly attributed to errors at surgery (56%) or in outpatient clinics (24%). BACKGROUND: Forearm plaster casts are commonly used in orthopaedic practice for the treatment of fractures of the wrist and carpal bones. A common question put by patients seeks to clarify suitability to drive a motor vehicle. DVLA guidelines do not specifically comment about temporary immobilisation in a cast.
METHODS: A questionnaire was sent to 248 adult patients who had recently been treated in Colles' or scaphoid-type casts to determine the driving habits of the patients and their attitudes to the legality and safety of driving with a cast.

The forearm distal bone fracture is the most com-mon fracture in children. Scaphoid frac-ture is rare because the scaphoid is largely cartilaginous in children. Some cases associating both distal radius and scaphoid fractures were reported in the literature. Scaphoid fracture often occurs without displacement and can be easily overlooked. We reported a case of children wrist injury combining scaphoid fracture with ipsilateral distal fracture.

Tears of the scapholunate interosseus ligament (SL) can affect the outcome.
