Fingertip injuries are among the most frequently encountered hand traumas in clinical settings and often result from occupational, recreational, or domestic incidents. These injuries range from simple lacerations and avulsions to more complex presentations involving severe tissue loss, exposed bone, fractures, and nail bed disruptions. Given the intricate anatomy of the fingertip, comprising soft tissue, bone, nerves, and the nail unit, these injuries can significantly compromise hand function, sensation, dexterity, and aesthetic appearance. Prompt and appropriate management is crucial to mini

INTRODUCTION: Finger and hand injuries are among the most common musculoskeletal conditions presenting to emergency departments and primary care providers. Many rural and community hospitals may not have immediate access to an orthopedic surgeon on-site. Furthermore, military treatment facilities, both within the continental United States and in austere deployment environments, face similar challenges. Therefore, knowing how to treat basic finger and hand injuries is paramount for patient care.

Nail bed avulsion injuries associated with a distal phalanx fracture are very common injuries occurring in industrial workers dealing with heavy machines. Often patients come with an open wound that needs a thorough wash and reduction of fracture with manipulation and traction along with suturing of the nail bed. The study was conducted on 20 patients with nail bed avulsion injuries associated with distal phalanx fracture. Patients were treated by a vertical figure-of-eight suturing of the nail plate with the nail bed after a reduction of the distal phalanx fracture. Patients were followed up

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate retrospectively if soft tissue injuries have an impact on the functional results of surgically treated intra-articular fractures of the base of the middle phalanx.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 1/2007 to 4/2010 we operated on 27 patients with intra-articular fractures of the base of the middle phalanx with pins, screws or external fixation analogous to Suzuki. 5 patients were excluded. 13 patients had no significant soft tissue injury (kWTV group), 9 patients had significant soft tissue damage including open fractures, skin lesions or/and seve

INTRODUCTION: Phalangeal neck fractures are unusual, occurring mainly in children. This study aims at assessing the results of treatment of this type of fracture and presents a new technique for displaced fractures namely intrafocal pinning.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From January 2001 to January 2007, we treated 49 children (32 boys and 17 girls) with 52 phalangeal neck fractures. The patients were aged between three months and 14 years (average seven years). Five fractures were open but without nerve, artery or tendon damage. The 32 undisplaced or minimally displaced fractures were treated by cl

UNLABELLED: This report cites new developments in the treatment of extra-articular hand fractures in adults. Recent reports confirm that small amounts of metacarpal shortening or dorsal angulation cause minimal functional impairment. Unilateral excision of the lateral band and oblique fibers of the extensor apparatus of the metacarpophalangeal joint facilitates proximal phalangeal fracture exposure and may improve functional recovery. Results using open mini screw fixation of oblique extra-articular metacarpal and phalangeal fractures may be comparable to those of percutaneous Kirschner wire f

Attitudes to the treatment of distal radial fracture are now more critical than previously, especially where intraarticular fracture is concerned. Inadequate primary reduction and such complications as redislocation or dystrophic problems lead to poor results. Quantification of fracture instability is becoming increasingly important in fracture classification, determination of the indications for the different treatment modalities and management. Accurate anatomical reduction also improves later function. The quality of alignment attained during the treatment depends on the quality of reductio

Because the hand is the most frequently injured part of the body, primary recognition of injured structures, careful assessment of damage, and appropriate treatment or referral by the primary care physician are critical. Most fingertip injuries heal with conservative care. Ideally, the healed wound should be covered with well-padded skin, be free of scar tissue, and not adhere to underlying bone. Crushing fingertip injuries associated with underlying fractures are often overlooked initially, with resultant infection, nonunion, and nail deformity. In the evaluation of flexor tendon injuries, re
