Exploring the antagonistic mechanism of Bacillus atrophaeus CY1 for the biological control of potato common scab.

Streptomyces scabies is a pathogenic actinomycete that infects potato crops and commonly causes scab-like lesions on potato tubers. Screening of strains antagonistic towards S. scabies in the natural environment was performed in this study. This study focused on the extraction of antibacterial substances and changes in potato defense enzymes and the rhizosphere microbiota. Together, these factors constitute biological control mechanisms. Pot experiments showed that Bacillus atrophaeus CY1 reduced the infection of scabs caused by S. scabies from 92 % to 60 % and the disease index from 62 % to 2

High caseload of Scabies amongst Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh: A retrospective analysis of the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of cases, July 2022 to November 2023.

Scabies is a dermatological parasitic infestation prevalent in many regions worldwide. Classified as a neglected disease by World Health Organization (WHO) since 2017, it is often associated with poor living conditions and overcrowding. Towards the end of 2021, unusual high numbers of scabies cases in outpatient consultations were observed in two Médecins Sans Frontières' (MSF) Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Here, we aimed to describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with scabies consulting the clinics from Ju

Pathogenicity of Streptomyces scabies and identification of tolerant potato cultivars for scab-prone regions.

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is a crop of global significance, with significant production in Pakistan, Egypt, etc. it is quite vulnerable to Streptomyces scabies, which causes common scab., leading to substantial yield and economic losses. Conventional control methods, including soil pH adjustment and chemical treatments, are often inconsistent and expensive, necessitating the development of resistant cultivars. This study isolated and purified S. scabies from infected tubers using yeast malt extract agar (YMA). The isolates were confirmed as pathogenic through hypersensitivity tests on Nico

Dynamical analysis of scabies delayed epidemic model with second-order global stability.

Scabies is a highly transmitted skin disease that can affect people of all ages, especially children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa are the regions most affected. For the study of the dynamics of scabies in the population, the mathematical model is designed with delay differential equations (DDEs) for four subpopulations: unvaccinated individuals, vaccinated individuals, infected individuals, and recovered individuals. The fundamental properties of the model, such as positivity, boundedness, existence, and uniqueness, are proved. The equili

Pediatric iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome: a series of seven cases induced by topical corticosteroid use.

OBJECTIVES: Cushing's syndrome (CS) in children is often caused by prolonged glucocorticoid use. Exogenous steroid administration, mainly oral and parenteral, commonly leads to iatrogenic CS, while topical corticosteroids' role is less recognized. Here, we present seven pediatric cases of iatrogenic CS linked to topical glucocorticoids, resulting in adrenal insufficiency. CASE PRESENTATION: There were seven patients, aged 3-60 months, with diaper dermatitis (six patients) and scabies (one patient), all receiving topical clobetasol propionate for a median duration of 2 months (range: 0.5-3 mon

Dermatologic Research in Displaced Populations: Importance, Challenges, and Proposed Solutions.

Displaced populations face complex dermatologic challenges. Contributing factors include low immunization rates, poor sanitation, crowded living conditions, and physical abuse. Chronic inflammatory conditions and infectious diseases, including fungal infections and scabies, are prevalent. Research is crucial to reduce the spread of disease, improve care in these populations, and develop sustainable frameworks for long-term dermatologic health care in crisis settings. The paucity of dermatologist support in this field exacerbates the issue. Ethical considerations include nonmaleficence and cult

Atypical Scabies Presenting as Annular Plaques: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Scabies is a highly contagious parasitic infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis, commonly presenting with pruritic lesions such as papules and burrows. While typical scabies lesions are well-documented, atypical presentations can complicate diagnosis. This case report describes an unusual manifestation of scabies presenting as annular plaques. A 50-year-old male with no significant medical history presented with a pruritic rash, including well-defined annular plaques on his thighs. Dermoscopic examination revealed the characteristic "deltaplane" sign and a translucent mite body,

Efficacy of eprinomectin 5 mg/mL topical solution administered twice pour on at 1 mg per kg body weight against sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei) in sheep.

Sarcoptic mange of sheep is a skin disease which compromises the health and welfare of the animals, impacts their productivity and is zoonotic. In Europe, sarcoptic mange appears to be the prevailing type of mange affecting sheep kept for milk production in the Mediterranean countries. Eprinomectin 5 mg/mL topical solution (EPRINEX® Multi, Boehringer Ingelheim) was recently authorized for the treatment of gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes and Oestrus ovis in sheep with zero hours milk withdrawal in several countries in Europe. As the product in cattle has claims against a broad range of
